I hate being fat :(

I'm 5 foot 3 and 14 stone 6 pounds. I hate being fat. Why can I achieve so much else in my life but I can't achieve losing weight.
I have tried so many times.

I went on mounjaro last year and it just made me really sick. I didnt lose any weight on it. I am off it now.

Both me and my brother had very bad childhoods and we are both overweight. Obviously we are eating to comfort ourselves. I'm not sure how to break the pattern. Was anyone on here able to break out of the pattern of emotional eating?

Apparently, what you eat whilst taking GLPs influences whether you feel nausea or not. Did you change your diet or expect it to fix everything by itself? (It does tend to be punted as a magic potion by some).

Yes I did change my diet. I ate very healthily. It still made me really, really
Sick.

What I think actually needs to be fixed in people more, is that people often over eat due to emotional trauma. I am wondering how to fix that

They will soon come out with a new drug that's even more efficient. Try that because it's really hard to battle overeating when you have used it as a trauma respons.

3luckystars · 24/05/2026 20:48

Have you tried BodySlims? It’s the only thing I know that works long term. It totally changed a few of my friends lives.

You walk one hour a day. There is no menus etc you have to work it all out yourself. that why it’s long term solution because it stays with you when the 10 weeks are over.

It really works.

Thehop · 24/05/2026 20:49

I ended up in hospital on miunjaro. Never been so ill.

I ended up having a sleeve last year and I think it saved my life.

traima responses are so hard to recover from alone. Have you co soldered therapy op?

There was some research recently that showed some people carry a genetic marker that can make them feel incredibly unwell when taking WLI. There was a BBC article on it. It also said some people gave genetic markers which means they are likely to lose more weight than average using them. You could just be very unfortunate and one of those people who has extreme reactions. That said. Have you looked at other options? Some of the oral medications or Wegovy instead?

Have you also had your thyroid function checked? Hormone panels etc.? There can be underlying reasons which make it more challenging for some people to lose weight.

Have you tried therapy @Scarlettjune ?!

TappingTed · 24/05/2026 20:55

@Scarlettjune Reading helped me- I read about why I was eating and what impact trauma had on me and have tried to make compassionate changes rather than feeling negatively towards my body. The books most helpful for me were “The body keeps the score” by Bessel Van der Kolk and “no bad parts” by Richard Schwartz.
Generally eating less calories and moving more has helped but it’s been a slow journey and I’m not quite there yet. But I would not want to use WLI or anything extreme.

I don’t think my reaction was that unusual. There are a lot of people on the weight loss injection forum on here who say that they experience extreme nausea on it. It’s a common side effect. I wouldn’t take it again.

You deal with the root cause (childhood trauma) through counselling.

There isn’t actually, it is very unusual. Look at any of the monthly starter threads,

I would also recommend therapy

Some nausea is common. Extreme nausea and sickness is a rarer side effect and thought to only impact 1 to 3% of people.

In fairness to OP I was losing very slowly on slimming world and with intensive gym sessions and decided to try glp1s, I was eating mainly protein. Veg. Fruit, high fiber carbs and counting everything. My gallbladder flared up almost weekly, I felt awful and I lost 1 pounds in 2 months. 1 pound.

Unless you have gallstones. Which are often undiagnosed. Which I do. Hence the extreme reaction

If you had gall bladder issues it will be due to weight or diet, not the drug, and losing no weight means you were eating to maintenance.

A poster on this thread wrote that taking mounjaro made her end up in hospital. So how is it that unusual?

I have never felt as bad in my life as I did after taking mounjaro. I won’t be taking it again

No I KNOW I already have gallstones. I'm not blaming the drug I'm saying I couldn't stay on it because it aggravated the underlying condition. Which by the way is a familial predisposition. All my siblings struggle, even the slim gym rats. My point is a lot of people have gallstones and therefore those people will all feel foul. When I get my gallbladder out I might try again. I have 1 sister who has lost 5 stone on mounjaro. I have reason to encounter people who take it professionally too. I think it's an incredible innovation. I wish it had worked but I couldn't tolerate pain and vomitinh roughly once a fortnight so not worth it for me. My point is simply if op says she was too ill to take it she probably was.

Loads of things. Therapy didn’t work for me. I went to five different thrapists

You're very very defensive about this, if mounjaro has worked for you then that's amazing news, I'm delighted for you, I wish it were widely available on the NHS so anyone who can benefit from it had the opportunity. I really do!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/05/2026 21:13

You seem to know the answer: childhood trauma. Counselling would be a good place to start. 💐

WhatNextImScared · 24/05/2026 21:16

Have you ever tried therapy with a practitioner who specialises in eating disorders? It might be best to start with the coping mechanism rather than the trauma

Not defensive, just aware a lot of people could be reading this and it’s important information is accurate and contextualised.

Yep. It's worth people being aware it's not a miracle. It's a medication that helps a lot of people. But not everyone. That is factual and contextual.
