Am I the only person on MN who loves the summer?

All I see is posters moaning about summer and loving the winter.

I love the light nights. I love not wearing boots and coats and scarves. Bring the summer on!

I was working in the garden all day and it was really unpleasantly hot. We had to send our gardener home early because it was too hot for him too.
What were all the posters who love the hot weather doing today that was so lovely? Sitting on a deckchair with a cold drink?

Pottering about in the garden, shopping, washing. The usual Weekend stuff.

Lying in a reclining chair reading a book, then took the dogs out at 5. We’ve just had dinner in the garden. It’s been a beautiful day.

That does sound nice but unfortunately we have too much to do to lounge around all day

That’s the bit that I don’t get about the people who love heat.

What are they actually doing in the heat? It’s holiday weather, lovely for lying on the beach or by the pool, but if you’re trying to actually get stuff done it’s unbearable.

Exactly!

No. Getting with my usual Saturday.

Makes me think your usual Saturday isn’t very strenuous

Just pretend you’re on holiday.

I think you need a new gardener if he can't work in the heat.

Good point. I managed to keep going in the heat despite being 20 years older than him.

Goonie1 · Yesterday 21:01

No, I love summer. I love the heat (when we get some) and the long days. I genuinely think I suffer from SAD because spring and summer make a huge difference to me.

I just do my normal activities. This includes exercising every day. I walk wherever I can.

I find it so much easier to get on with things when it's warm. Feel more myself not swathed in layers of clothing. The only thing that's harder is doing indoor stuff, when I want to be out in the sun making the most of it!

In contrast winter makes me want to hibernate. It's difficult doing stuff amd staying warm at the same time - I feel the need to be under blankets.

Lots of people have outdoor jobs, when it's hot they just get on with it. If you find gardening unpleasant in the heat then surely it's only common sense to leave it until it is cooler Confused In most countries people seem to deal with the heat, even if they don't particularly like it, so why do so many in the UK whinge and moan about temps which aren't even that high?

Did you mean to be so rude? I love summer and tolerate the heat well.
Hot weather doesn't stop me from my usual actvities.

It’s not going to be cooler til Wednesday and stables still need mucking out, plants need watering, roof needs fixing in the meantime. Common sense really?

LOOOOOVE it ☀️☀️☀️😎😎😎

Love the heat but it's getting less and less

Watering plants is hardly strenuous work. Surely there are times of the day when it isn't as hot, that's when you do the hard work, not when the heat is at its most extreme. As I mentioned, how on earth do you think people with outdoor manual jobs manage? I had builders working near me in summer, they started early and finished earlier than normal - it often gets hottest later in the day here.

I'm nearly 67 and have never in real life heard all these complaints about how difficult life is in a bit of heat - which, let's be realistic, hardly goes on for weeks and weeks in the UK.

I love the summer. I love summer clothes and light warm evenings and everyone seems happier.

BrimFire · Today 05:41

I live on a quiet "nice" estate but you really are at the mercy of your neighbours.
Yesterday I had to go through a notorious estate and one tiny front "garden" had loads of adults drinking (men shirts off obvs), boys showing off there motorbikes, speakers blasting, yelling at each other. This was at 10am on a school day. I should imagine this weekend looks like.

The most it was yesterday was about 30c, where I am in Northants it was about 26c, does your gardener not work when the sun shines.

hockityponktas · Today 06:18

Oh I love it! I find grey, damp days so depressing. I would rather not leave the house and in winter I often dont bother apart from work🤣
Bright, warm/hot just makes me feel so much more motivated!
I feel better, look better and am much more enthusiastic and proactive in the Summer.
Cheaper and quicker to do the washing, less cooking, more hours in the day, garden looks beautiful, all the veg at the allotment going well, not muddy and sludgy everywhere, not having to layer up clothes and then come into dry artificially heated buildings (plays havoc with my skin and hair) my neighbours can leave for work in the mornings without leaving their engines runnng for 20 mins and scraping away at their windscreens at some ungodly hour. Sitting outside in the evenings. Birds, bees, butterfly’s etc etc.
whats not to love.

Didimum · Today 06:23

Love both summer and Christmas. Shoot me.

hockityponktas · Today 06:29

I do love Christmas too though! Just wish our winters were crisp and bright instead of the perpetual grey that we have.

fantasticoplastico · Today 07:02

I absolutely love it! But live somewhere in the country where it’s relatively cool so don’t get frustrated by the heat waves (although I’d love it at the moment as while you are basking in the sunshine I’ve just got fog) But tbh I love living somewhere that is so seasonal and changes so much.

RampantIvy · Today 07:11

Yet another thread has popped up complaining about the lovely weather.

You would think that having a few nice days was an unusual phenomenon, but it happens every year.
