Am I the only person on MN who loves the summer?

All I see is posters moaning about summer and loving the winter.

I love the light nights. I love not wearing boots and coats and scarves. Bring the summer on!

But FWIW I love the longer days and the warm weather. A bit of sun does the power of good!

SoLaidBackImHorizontal · 22/05/2026 23:17

@NotTheOrdinary of course not! Could you not think of a better AIBU?

Sitting in the garden on a summers evening is bliss. Seems most of MN would prefer to be huddled under a heated throw though.

Unfortunately I don’t sit in my garden after 17.00pm because after that we don’t get the sun ( bloody trees 😡😡 )
I love the sun, hotter the better for me, and the weather in the UK has been so rubbish this year so far, I’ve been abroad 3 times already just to get some sun!
Roll on june, when I’m away the first week and the last!

Bubblewrapart · 22/05/2026 23:18

Whaaaaaaat?! I have been rejoicing all day at the weather! I am not wearing multiple layers, I enjoyed ice cubes in my drink. My whites have been out in the sun getting as crisp as can be.

I do enjoy wrapping up, warming food and drinks, a cosy fire etc when the time comes but one doesn't have to cancel out the other.

beasmithwentworth · 22/05/2026 23:23

Yes!! I know there is a great love on MN for autumn / winter/ bonfire night/ hot chocolate/ snuggling under blankets/ hibernating etc .

I do all of that for survival and trying to put a positive spin on things but I just love spring and summer. I feel so much happier now it’s May

I feel so much more alive, positive and happiness in spring and summer.

I like it too -

AgnesMcDoo · 22/05/2026 23:24

I love it too.

We don’t often have summer in Scotland but when we do it’s amazing

FluffletheMeow · 22/05/2026 23:26

Bare feet, long light evenings, pizza oven. Happy child, happy cat.

I think I love May and June the best!

BarbarianBabs · 22/05/2026 23:27

The thing I love most about the UK weather is the variety. I enjoy all of the seasons and find each one has something special about it.

I only wish in the winter we would have proper snow to complete the set, as in south London we don’t get much of that at all!

My cat is so happy in the summer. He comes alive again. He's an old boy but he lives for the summer.

Disliking summer is one of the biggest ways in which MN is totally unrepresentative of the real world.

I love long days, warm sunshine & lovely pub gardens. Like most normal people do.

Kiddlywinkss · 22/05/2026 23:32

Love summer!

Me too! It’s such a relief! I usually love autumn too but I absolutely hate Jan-April.

Yep.this is me. I HATE winter. JANUARY CAN GET IN THE BIN. I honestly cant think of a single good thing about it. And the only good thing about February is that its short.

dannyufcfan · 22/05/2026 23:38

It happens every year like clockwork. It's us brits, we're pathetic, with the 'heat'.

Lord knows how we would cope if we ever had a true hot summer like a lot of the world has to deal with every year.

Shit weather for 80% of the year, non stop rain.

Yet, as soon as it touches 25 for a few days, the whiners are out in force on how they can't cope.

Give me a break.

Buy a fan, stop moaning and enjoy the rare nice days we get.

*I appreciate some people have medical conditions that are affected by the heat. These people are allowed to moan.

basoon · 22/05/2026 23:43

Love love love the summer. Bring on the sun I say.

aWeeCornishPastie · 22/05/2026 23:44

Its my favourite season too

I think the problem MN has is that summer is for everyone, so the oiks are out in their council house gardens scoffing their Greggs and slurping their Fosters in their vests while shouting at their kids over the Bluetooth boombox they stole from B&M.

If "we" were all left in peace to sit in our lovely gardens with our lovely family in our lovely towns and didn't have to interact with the poors, I'm sure things would be different.

lol me and my family are loud oiks who grasp every minute of sunshine to socialise play music and get all the kids and grandkids together to run wild so I feel ‘your’ pain (wink)!!
xx

Sunshine
Vitamin D
Solar Energy
Longer days to do lovely things
Warmer sea/rivers to swim in
Fresh & dry laundry on the line in no time
Beer gardens
Gorgeous flowers & greenery
Blue skies
Outdoor cooking
Eating outside
Happy, smiley people
Long evening sunset walks

why on earth would you not want any of that?

DrCoconut · 22/05/2026 23:51

This is the actual most wonderful time of the year. Getting lighter every evening still, warmer weather, getting the nice clothes out. And no socks! I literally feel more grounded the less I have on my feet and love the sense of freedom and not being all bundled up that summer brings.

NotTheOrdinary · 22/05/2026 23:52

I give it until July before the romantic Autumn lovers are banging on about snuggly jumpers, log burners, candles, heated throws and kicking the leaves on woodland walks.

I forgot sun kissed skin. I am yet to meet a person who doesn’t compliment someone when they have sun kissed glow. You just feel better. (Unless you are untannable like my BF but she still loves sunshine).

Imanexcellentdrivercharliebabbit · 22/05/2026 23:53

Having lived in the Canary Islands for 3 years, and then on the Peninsula in Andalusia 4/5 more when the kids were little in the early 2000’s; bizarrely-lovely as it was - I missed the seasons so much.
Back in uk since 2007- love the changing seasons however random they are and wouldn’t change the weather for the world x

I love the sun. Love swimming in the sea. Eating outside, being able to ride my bike everywhere without getting rained on or frozen. Lovely flowers and fruit in the garden. Nice walks in nature with blossom and flowers. Butterflies and dragonflies and bumblebees (could live without the wasps and mosquitoes tho). I get a bit cross whenever I have to spend a sunny day indoors.
