So my neighbours teenage son has been smoking doobies in the garden with his parents consent. His father is a policeman and actually a firearms officer. I'm concerned that he may be using Ur at least getting high from the passive smoking. I want to report him to his superiors but DH is adamantly against it and says I'm being dramatic. Really between a rock and a hard place. AIBU if I report him?

I do wonder if psychologists have a thought on what it means when someone fixates on something a neighbour is doing that is nothing to do with them, it is like projecting other issues onto someone else

ThejoyofNC · 17/05/2026 05:35

Damn I always miss all the fun on here

Stop my dog waking me at half 5 in the morning.

I wonder if this would work on babies as well…

I have hun. Live in a 4 bedroom detached, 2 children excelling at school and well respected in my neighborhood. Don't be bitter get better.

Sounds like you're pretty bored if you ask me

MyGammyEye · 17/05/2026 05:37

In the OPs defense (crikey) but not for her reasoning. Neighbours smoking weed is different.
My neighbour and her adult kids and their mates would all sit out toking when I moved in to this house.
My house constantly smelled of it, daughters school uniform on the line stank of it.
I did a very unmumsnetty thing and confronted the situation and said that I can't have my daughter going to school aged 7 stinking of skunk...

They were brilliant, they renovated the shed at back of garden and use that to smoke in.

12 years now, still on speaking terms, nobody reported!

It will, all you have to do is type whatever you want to happen.

The internet is amazing.

Nopersbro · 17/05/2026 05:42

You can report the drug use to the police - online, 101, or Crimestoppers if you don't want to make an in person complaint. If you're correct that someone is smoking cannabis it's illegal even if it's prescribed, and the proper authorities can investigate. If you just want the activity to stop, check if the neighbours are renting and if so go to the landlord or Housing Association, it's typically much faster. Don't report the dad directly as you have no evidence he's done anything and going to his employer rather than through the proper channels is weird. Besides, as you said he has a firearms so that could get awkward.

A neighbour smoking weed and the smell is unbearable reporting that is normal adding the bigger conspiracy is not

HumbleHun · 17/05/2026 01:50

Sat watching countdown smoking a doobie more like. It's a gateway drug FYI.

I think you're a troll. If not, you seriously need to get a life. You may have material possessions and kids, but you're clearly not happy if this is what keeps you up at night. Good luck when your little darlings start to dabble in drugs, statistically it's going to happen at some point in their late teens or early twenties.

SparklyGlitterballs · 17/05/2026 06:02

Well, I didn't drink last night, or do drugs or weed. I also went to bed at a very reasonable hour, so I'm assuming that makes me a moral person, not like all you delinquent mumsnetters who replied overnight 🤣🤣

I too think you're being unreasonable and dramatic OP. If it's creating a horrible odour in your house (hopefully not in your four bedroomed detached) then it can be a nuisance, but otherwise you need to mind your own business. You could ask your neighbour to get their son to smoke further away from the house. I'm assuming your detached 4 bed has a nice long garden too? On the other hand, go ahead and report. Policing is a stressful job and I'm sure your local force could do with a good laugh. Make sure you tell them you don't iron under the influence so they know what an upstanding member of the public you are.

Gingerbreadtree · 17/05/2026 06:03

HumbleHun · 17/05/2026 02:14

12% agree and the sensible ones will be in bed now and the drunks and insomniacs skewing the results voting with a foggy head. By lunch tommorow igl be alot closer.

You're actually mental. This has to be a wind up. I say this as someone who has no truck with drugs or alcohol whatsoever. Stop trying to police the lives of others and go and get some hobbies. I'm sure if you live in such a 'naice' area, there will be plenty of options available to you.

Hence me pointing that out in my first sentence.

rwalker · 17/05/2026 06:08

Can’t stand the smell of itI think you’ll be extremely disappointed with the response if you report

NoArmaniNoPunani · 17/05/2026 06:16

pestowithwalnuts · 17/05/2026 05:21

Is a doobie the same as a spliff ?

That's what they called it in the 1960s, back when drunk ironing was a criminal offence.

WirralWool · 17/05/2026 06:18

This thread is a treat to wake up to. I don’t think I’ve laughed so much at 6am on a Sunday since my clubbing days many moons ago.

Stand down! Abort thread! Abort!! Abort!! ALEXA, STOP PEOPLE REPLYING!

But then how we can come out and ask if the neighbour on the other side hangs her knickers on the line which is a secret code to the ops husband shows she wants him to join her sex circus

Spoil sport

Nos4r2 · 17/05/2026 06:25

I wouldn't like someone smoking this crap in the next door garden it stinks, but it looks like OP everyone on here partakes in it so no one is going to agree with you.
I do sympathise though and can't believe so many see this as normal.

PsilocybinSalsa · 17/05/2026 06:45

Ridiculous.
Find something else to do.
What a nosey pest of a neighbour you sound.
Have a puff yourself and chill the fuck out.

Donnersons · 17/05/2026 06:46

HumbleHun · 17/05/2026 02:19

Sorry , I use it as a term of affecting , I know it's spelled Hon.

Your spelling and grammar also leaves a lot to be desired, so perhaps berating other people for theirs isn’t a route you should be heading down.

As for your original question, which I’ll entertain as genuine for now, sure, go and report him. I mean, it’s not as of the police would ever have random drug testing or his colleagues might notice if he was showing up high. Let us know how you get on.

PsilocybinSalsa · 17/05/2026 06:47

HumbleHun · 17/05/2026 01:24

Doubt you be laughing if you had this decision to make.

Absolute batshit.
No one would consider this non issue a decision.
No one but you would lose sleep over this. My God I'd smoke too if I lived next to someone so jumped up.

🤣 are you the same woman that was in a state the other night because her adult son was wearing a T-shirt with an obscenity/sexual language on it? If not, you should get together and form some sort of club.
