So my neighbours teenage son has been smoking doobies in the garden with his parents consent. His father is a policeman and actually a firearms officer. I'm concerned that he may be using Ur at least getting high from the passive smoking. I want to report him to his superiors but DH is adamantly against it and says I'm being dramatic. Really between a rock and a hard place. AIBU if I report him?

I like a glass of wine and the occasional g and t on celebratory nights. I'm not denying my use of alcohol buts it's all.above board and I always wait 48 hours to drive or use the iron or lawn mower etc.

This is hilarious.

I hope you wait to use the electric toothbrush, you can get a very nasty sore patch if used under the influence.

WOW! Four whole bedrooms to yourself! Never heard of such luxury!!

(I say as I sit in my FIVE bedroom, FOUR bathroom, DETACHED house).

Focus on yourself and not your neighbours.

What an absolute prat you have just made yourself look 🤦‍♀️ my house is bigger than yours 😂

At last, an excuse not to iron.

Sorry DH I am over the drink ironing limit, so creased shirts today😂

You were pretty bloody rude from beginning OP, so maybe you 'be better' next time. Also YABU.

AlwaysLookOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 17/05/2026 04:15

Teetotal insomniac about to hit the booze, anything to get out of the ironing on Monday...

That is embarssing! In the inspiring words of the OP, I’ll try to get better and not be bitter!

HumbleHun · 17/05/2026 01:55

I have hun. Live in a 4 bedroom detached, 2 children excelling at school and well respected in my neighborhood. Don't be bitter get better.

They might start smoking doobies with the neighbour soon, don’t be so sanctimonious!

I don’t live in a 4 bedroom detached, not next to “junkies” as you call them 🤷‍♀️

Spottyvases · 17/05/2026 04:44

Yep - it's totally fine for the policeman's son to be smoking weed in their own back garden. Erm no - it's not fine.

Only - it is illegal. And it is hypocritical of the lad's Dad to allow it. Shoddy standards and actually sloppy morals. But hey - take the piss out of me too as I'm a pearl clutcher like the OP.

@HumbleHun you could report - but the police would definitely not investigate - depending on which area you live in.

Maybe posting late Saturday night was a mistake. Getting passive aggressive replies and nonsense. The poll shows there is at least a decent portion of readers with a moral compass. Fine he might not get high from passive smoke but he may be smoking it himself indoors. See my dilemma?

You’re not pa, just plain aggressive! Do better!

my father was an officer in the drug squad, theres no need to go bananas, it is legalised to a certain degree. it could be medical?

Alcohol legal and wears off the next day.. marijuana illegal and warps the brain. See the difference?

You really have no clue or are deliberately trolling given I dont actually think you could be so obtuse I am calling troll. Alcohol would never be legal if it was invented today. Hello addiction, domestic violence, increase in about 10 times of cancer, liver disease, cardiovascular disease, dementia, brain damage, RTA, depression, reproductive issues, GI issues etc etc. Cannabis is far less harmful imo. But go ahead get your knickers in a knot.

Dovecare · 17/05/2026 04:47

Mind your own business

Sat watching countdown smoking a doobie more like. It's a gateway drug FYI.

as again my father would disagree with that, especially nowadays.

its not a gateway drug nowadays

lolacherricoke · 17/05/2026 04:55

For goodness sake, you need to chill!! go join him! Might make you less dramatic and less uptight!!

LBFseBrom · 17/05/2026 04:57

You certainly would be unreasonable. Stay out of it!

I had to google, 'doobies'. Why couldn't you just say, 'weed'? I have no idea what 'Ur' is, always thought it was an abbreviation for, 'you are', but is obviously not in your context..

Smoking a bit of weed is not at all unusual and the police are generally tolerant of it, so should you be - or at least mind your own business. These are your neighbours and you don't grass up neighbours except for abuse. They are not hurting you and the lad will outgrow weed smoking - as most of us did.

Give me strength. I just want advice on what to do not a crash course in drug use.

Mind your own business is what you do.

What they do in their back garden is none of your business. What an officious busybody you are. Can't believe you're respected in your neighborhood.

wrinklycactus · 17/05/2026 05:16

HumbleHun · 17/05/2026 01:24

Doubt you be laughing if you had this decision to make.

You don't 'have this decision to make' 🙄

This isn't even a thing for you to think/ worry about or any of your business. Leave them to it.

pestowithwalnuts · 17/05/2026 05:21

Is a doobie the same as a spliff ?

Tablesandchairs23 · 17/05/2026 05:21

You're being dramatic. Mind your own business and leave them to it.
