I’ve just seen that the Hantavirus is in Liverpool?! They’ve been brought to Liverpool? I’ve got a 2 day work conference there and now I’m worried 😢 I suffer terribly with health anxiety. AIBU?

But it says they can be let out in 72 hours which will be when I’m at the conference 😢

Oh for gods sake.

Ring in sick if you’re going to act like this.

Elliania · 11/05/2026 21:02

Also there's no confirmation that any of the peope being housed in the hospital even HAVE hantavirus. At the moment we are told they are healthy and showing no symptoms. The 2 confirmed cases in British nationals from the cruise are being treated in The Netherlands and South Africa.

TedTookVows · 11/05/2026 21:04

As has been already said, by @ScaryM0nsterand other posters the outbreak of COVID in the UK was NOT linked to this hospital, but I’m hiding this thread now because the ignorance general lack of scientific knowledge and current affairs knowledge is absolutely shocking

There is no way that these people will isolate for 42 days

God I’d love to be told to isolate for 6 weeks. All the books I could read! All the films I could watch! All the sleep I could get!

Worked like a charm with Covid

Covid is an airborne virus between humans.

Hanatvirus is only airborne between rats and humans. Not between humans.

This scaremongering needs to stop. It’s absolutely pathetic.

Cooshawn · 11/05/2026 21:07

Firstly, Birkenhead is not Liverpool.
Secondly, unless you were planning a stroll around the isolation ward then how do you think you're coming into contact with it?

Lastly, have you spoken to somebody about your anxiety?

RedRiverShore6 · 11/05/2026 21:07

It will be easier to isolate that Covid because you can easily get deliveries without everyone else grabbing the slots.

Focacciaisyum · 11/05/2026 21:08

pixiesaresmall · 11/05/2026 20:04

Whilst they are discharged from hospital premises they will isolate at home with monitoring. They won’t be wondering around

Hahaha have no they wont. Not fir 6 weeks. No chance.
No reason to think theyll be in Liverpool in particular though.

For the sake of everyone else on your conference, I suggest you don't go.

A completely different virus. This one is spread by prolonged contact, not standing near someone like with Covid

Nope. The BBC is quoting the US who say 6 feet for 15 minutes. Sounds very 'early covid' to me.

True but persistent sneezing and coughing can spread this virus. According to the US public health official, 15 min exposure (or 3X5 ) at 6ft is sufficient. We won't see anything for a while but I am convince there will be a handful of cases here and there. Hopefully not here.

ClayPotaLot · 11/05/2026 21:10

OP, what help do you get with your anxiety? Have you learnt any techniques for calming yourself down when you're spiraling like this? Because this is the time to use them.

This virus is very different to COVID. It's not novel. We know quite a lot about it. It's been around for a long time and we don't get massive outbreaks because it doesn't spread easily from human to human, not least of which is because during the incubation period it isn't contagious for days before symptoms present. It's very serious if you get infected, but the chances of infection are very low for a host of different reasons.

You really aren't at significant risk going to Liverpool.

SwedishEdith · 11/05/2026 21:10

I've seen your other thread as well. I think you should consider changing jobs as you seem to be unnaturally scared of travel, staying overnight in hotels and being in contact with people.

angelikacpickles · 11/05/2026 21:10

mumstheword1x · 11/05/2026 20:55

I have too. I’m part of the team running it

Well you'll just have to get on with it then. If you can't opt out, and you are not listening to anyone who is telling you what is actually happening, what was the point of this thread.

HarriaHen · 11/05/2026 21:11

I heard that doing the live press conference too.

I am not worried but it is on my radar. 30-50% fatality is horrifying of course.

tachetastic · 11/05/2026 21:11

But this is Liverpool! 😂

(Sorry, Birkenhead, I know.....)

This strain of hantavirus is between humans.. that’s the worry?

Just stop. JUST. STOP.

You are not going to catch hantavirus. If you are worried, wear as mask as much as possible. If you are very worried, make up and excuse to not go. Then look for a new job that requires no travel.

If you are worried about someone coming into your hotel room there are plenty of safety devices you can buy.

GimmieABreakOr3 · 11/05/2026 21:13

YABU… HTH!

HarriaHen · 11/05/2026 21:13

Out of interest, is a vaccine being worked on?
Will the cruise company be sued?

Vaxtable · 11/05/2026 21:13

If you read the articles they say they will decide in the next 72 hours if they need to continue to isolate where they are on the Wirral or self isolate at home.

If self isolating they will still be carefully monitored
if you are that concerned don’t go just tell them you are not happy to attend because of your health anxiety

FasterMichelin · 11/05/2026 21:14

JustAnotherWhinger · 11/05/2026 20:37

They’re not only isolating for 72 hours. They are in isolation at Arrowe park for at least 72 hours and then they’ll be taken to their homes to isolate further. It’s not guaranteed they’ll leave the hospital after 72 hours, and the isolation at their home will be monitored (as it was with swine flu).

it’s different with Covid. Covid had thousands of people isolating at any one time and was impossible to contain - the first returnees from China were successfully quarantined at Arrowe park

“Monitored” - umm… ok.

Look forward to seeing what that looks like in reality 👍

Barbie222 · 11/05/2026 21:14

YABU for confusing Liverpool with the Wirral. You have some serious prep to do in order to stay safe in and around your conference 😜
