I’ve just seen that the Hantavirus is in Liverpool?! They’ve been brought to Liverpool? I’ve got a 2 day work conference there and now I’m worried 😢 I suffer terribly with health anxiety. AIBU?

I am just really looking forward to the inevitable “me and my aunt Beryl definitely had Hanta at Christmas 2025, we went to the GP and he said there was a new virus going around and loads of people were down with it” and “we all knew about Hanta virus at October half term because the school had a letter about the rat licking trip being postponed” posts.

Oh god those! I have an acquaintance (can’t avoid her unfortunately) who swears she had Covid in November 2019 - before any cases were noted in the UK, we live in rural north Scotland, and no one she knows had been anywhere more interesting than Inverness for weeks.

No Doris, you had a tummy bug. Ffs.

Contagion not the same but fatality much higher. Up to 50%.

I agree - very worrying.

If you have been stuck on a boat for a long time wouldn’t you want to walk about on dry land and not be cooped up like you were in the boat. I’m assuming most people who leave a normal cruise don’t then stay inside for weeks on end (even if retired and elderly)

Yes I would want to. But if I maybe had a very deadly virus and had been asked to stay inside, I would do that.

And I don’t think I’m particularly a better person than average, or any more virtuous etc. So I’d believe that most people would do the same.

US woman has already broken requested self-isolation to fly to Tahiti... She is now being involuntarily quarantined in Pitcairn.

Focacciaisyum · 13/05/2026 09:15

Yes I read about her, she is staggeringly selfish.
I did say “most” people!

I recall the attitudes on here during Covid at its worst. I have low expectations.

It's ridiculous that they were brought to this country. They should have isolated on the boat.

Oh it’s not just dogs you hate, it’s people too. Good to
know Grin

PomplaMouse · 13/05/2026 10:38

I'm just holding my rats tight and hoping we get through this.

I heard that the only reason they are going to Arrowe Park was because some of the cruise passengers had an important conference they needed to get to in Liverpool, and that’s why they only need to isolate for 72 hours.

If anyone wants a new fear to unlock i've just learnt that aggressive tiger leeches CAN JUMP ON YOU FROM THE FOREST FLOOR!!!! No we dont have them in the UK (as far as I know) but OMG.

Do you really live your life searching the internet for “new fears to unlock”?

It's ridiculous that they were brought to this country. They should have isolated on the boat.

During Tuesday's press briefing, Ghebreyesus said some of the passengers were "facing mental breakdown" after being on board the ship for weeks "in what must have been a very frightening situation".
He added that the WHO's view was that to keep people on board the ship during the quarantine period "would have been inhumane, and unnecessary".

And today it's reported that the people leaving Arrowe Park won't necessarily be going to their homes. It's being considered whether they can go home or whether other accommodation is more appropriate. BBC.

Isolated on the boat? No absolutely not. Kept in yhe self contained flats where they were held for 3 days? Yes of course. And frankly 'close to mental breakdowns probably makes THEM MORE likely to go out and break quarantine.

YABVVVVU! Good grief OP, get a grip! Ok. Let’s say you DO get Hantavirus, what do you think will happen?

That really isn't very reassuring! 😆 hantavirus isn't covid. Have you seen the fatality rate?

Livpool · 13/05/2026 14:39

I live in Liverpool and hantavirus isn’t ‘in’ Liverpool. People are in a specialised hospital wing on the Wirral. Posts like this cause worry and panic.

I agree. The OP is a prime example.
I wonder if she took the train to Liverpool? She would have come into contact with all sorts of things on the train.

Yep. It’s 50/50. But it’s 100% that OP isn’t going to catch anything from anyone. She needs to sort out her health anxiety.

Well yes, that’s the reassurance to give the OP, that the chances of her catching the virus are basically zero. Not to ask her what she thinks would happen if she does catch it.

No, because, unlike you, I am not obsessed with what is happening with these people.

Do you honestly think they would have taken public transport? Seriously?

Please get some therapy when you get home. This is no way to live.

What business is it of yours?

And the fatality rate is not 50%. It can be up to 40% in people hospitalised with it, but plenty get a mild enough dose that doesn’t even need hospitalisation.

Go home OP, get some help for anxiety and get on with your life. This isn’t the first public health drama and won’t be the last

It’s got nothing to do with you.

Would you want someone following you home?
They will have gone home like millions of people do on a daily basis.
The people at ukhsa will know where they are and monitoring them. You dont need to know
You really need to stop focusing on this

It was reported they would be taken home by private transport organised by the health authorities involved, so not on public transport. I imagine some sort of van, with all involved wearing masks and so on - one would hope so. I don't think you need to worry about encountering them.
