Hmm, I have easily double that.
I really need a clear out, oops!

Stepsisterfromhell · 10/05/2026 00:22

Pretty much exactly what I have. Snap!

LunaTheCat · 10/05/2026 00:37

I have more dresses
About the same amount tops
Less swimsuits
Less trousers
Less jeans
Same no.coats

DelphiniumBlue · 10/05/2026 00:37

I've got more coats but fewer shorts and trousers, maybe a few less tops, but not by much tbh. If you are as old as me and buy a couple of summer dresses and a winter dress every year, along with a few new tops but neglect to chuck out the old ones, it soon adds up. If you change sizes that also makes a difference to the amount of clothes you need to have - for example, I have jeans in 3 sizes. So unless you are feeding a shopping addiction while your children starve, I wouldn't worry about it. Is space an issue?

Some have! I do know it’s a lot, it doesn’t help working in retail and being continuously tempted.
Some of it is 20 plus years old and I do wear them, I know I’ll still like them in another 20 years too.
I think I need to calm down on the spending though, I think I’m going to stop bringing my debit card to work with me.

I’m only surprised that you can find so many items you like in TK Max.

Threeboystwocatsandadog · 10/05/2026 00:47

I have a 5 drawer chest (a fairly large one) and all my clothes fit in there except my winter jacket and 2 sleeveless gilets that stay in the hall cupboard with my two handbags. I don’t own a skirt, dress or coat. I have one pair of asics trainers that I replace when they wear out, a pair of sketchers slip ons and a pair of ancient Clarks shoes that suffice for meals out or funerals. Hopefully no one will ask me to a wedding because I’d have to decline. I do however have 4 swimsuits as I like swimming and they wear out quickly if you only have one. I’m retired but wore a uniform for work so have never had to bother with clothes.

Monzo1ss · 10/05/2026 00:57

I mean I probably have the same or more in some categories if you count everything ie out of season clothes/things in storage/house clothes.

What I actually wear/gravitate towards and wear out of the house, tends to be smaller. Which mainly tends to be gym clothes, I probably have about a dozen sets and a few pairs of training trainers

TheCompactPussycat · 10/05/2026 00:58

I probably have a similar amount as the OP.

I'm not a big fashion fan and don't spend much on clothes.

I am someone who doesn't change their style often, takes good care of their clothes, and has remained the same size throughout their adult life (almost 40 years). I have clothes and shoes from before I met my husband 28 years ago.

Lougle · 09/05/2026 23:16

See this is where I went wrong. I went to the cinema a couple of days ago. I had been to the beach with my DD and the sea bit me, so I had to change my jeans. Then I went to the laundry bag and realised my second pair of jeans had been folded damp so were a bit fousty. No third pair of jeans exists, so I wore a pair of leggings. If I'd have been @Pamnn82 I could have reached for pairs 3-11.

Fousty - now there’s a word I haven’t heard for years ❤️

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 10/05/2026 00:59

Love that this was posted at the same time @Eenameenadeeka and @TheZTeam.

Depends on your lifestyle OP, but seems a lot to me.

This is an average amount of clothing.
SlumChum · 10/05/2026 01:09

That is a lot!
I've tried to build a capsule for myself (tried because my weight goes up and down so is a nightmare to maintain!) But i have:
2 skirts (work and outside)
3 work trousers
5 work shirts
1 blazer
3 sweaters
3 cardigans
2 dresses
7 t shirts
2 jeans

Then it all falls apart on the shoes which I am struggling to count in my head 🤣

PhaedraTwo · 10/05/2026 01:11

fashionqueen0123 · 09/05/2026 23:18

Do you never wear trousers of any kind?

I haven't worn trousers or jeans in years and I never liked them much when I did. I've never owned leggings or
joggers. I don't own any t shirts, hoodies or sweatshirts either.

Dunderheided · 10/05/2026 01:12

This is what I have

6 dresses, 2 of which don’t fit just now
I’ve just chucked out my only jeans for fraying
7 trousers
not sure, about 10 tops?
10 jumpers
1 cardigan
2 shorts
4 coats.
5 capes / shawls
2 blazers
3 gym sets
1 trainers, 1 pair of leather shoes
2 sandals.
2 boots.
2 swimsuits.
2 pairs pyjamas
3 bras

Probably not enough, but I’m waging a war against clutter, and find that minimalism really helps

TappyGilmore · 10/05/2026 01:13

Not even close to average. That is excessive. I believe I have a large amount of clothes but do not have anywhere near that amount.

PhaedraTwo · 10/05/2026 01:19

rainingsnoring · 09/05/2026 23:19

Not t shirts or long sleeved tops?
Not sure if you are joking about not understand the meaning of 'tops' as the meaning is so obvious.

I don't own any t shirts. I'm never sure what people are on about when they talk about "nice jeans and a top", but I've no interest in wearing "nice jeans and a top"

I have shirts, blouses and knitwear. I wouldn't refer to any of them as a "top"

Then presumably you are a much more formal dresser than the great majority of women or perhaps in a older age group.
Top just means what you wear on your top half but I'm sure you know that already.

Growlybear83 · 10/05/2026 01:53

I don’t think that’s very much clothing.

LBFseBrom · 10/05/2026 01:56

Presumably handbags don't fit into that category.

JenniferJupiterr · 10/05/2026 02:07

Sounds about right to me tbh

I have never counted but off the top of my head, my coats alone are …

Levis jacket
bird + wolf camo jacket
navy wool coat
brown wool coat
black rain coat
cream rain coat
oversized black blazer
denim blazer
fitted smart blazer
north face casual jacket
oxblood leather jacket
grey leather jacket
cream suede jacket
brown suede jacket
trench coat
padded duvet coat
at least 4 casual jackets
… and that’s just what’s come to me by memory as I struggle to sleep right now!

AND I said to my husband yesterday that I felt I dont have a suitable jacket for my upcoming new job!

a minimalist regarding clothes and shoes and perfume and make up I am not! I own 300 odd lipsticks 😀😀

mathanxiety · 10/05/2026 02:28

Damnd · 09/05/2026 22:13

Who needs 11 pairs of jeans? Surely some of those you never wear?

You could easily have that many if you've changed shape/ size over the course of a couple of years - pregnancy related weight gain and loss, medication related weight gain, menopause, or if you're prone to the dreaded cyclical bloat.

greenspaces03 · 10/05/2026 02:39

Depends on which country you live in. In UK most will say it’s a lot. But in cities like LA New York Miami Dubai even Mumbai, South Africa and Lagos it’s about average if you socialize ALOT. Think day and night events weekly. And where the weather is less temperamental. But if you have items you haven’t worn in 2 years, please give them out

AWeeCupOfTeaAndAnIndividualFruitTrifle · 10/05/2026 02:43

LaurieFairyCake · 09/05/2026 21:32

I’ve ten times that (old)

You have 680 tops?!

Tamtim · 10/05/2026 02:46

If it makes you happy, why not? For me, the amount would be overwhelming. I would like to have less than I have and have a one in, one out approach, but that just doesn’t happen.

blueshoes · 10/05/2026 02:53

OP, I don't have a third of what you own, probably even less if I found the time to properly cull my wardrobe.

ILombardiallaPrimaCrociata · 10/05/2026 02:55

Looks like you need a proper clear-out…

But you don’t seem to have any proper shoes - only trainers, sandals and boots. Very odd.
