I read this quote and it encapsulates exactly how I feel

'I never thought I'd see the day when the Right became the cool ones giving the finger to the establishment, and the Left became the snivelling self-righteous ones going around shaming everybody'

AIBU to think this is what many people think these days? We didn't leave the left, the left left us.

*the quote is from John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten. He's deliberately provocative in lots of ways, but he meant this one. I fully expect some people to come on the thread to tell us all how he's a horror and said he likes Donald Trump. That would be them missing the point.. but.. Let Them..

My previous post to you was

Wow.

Hoping for the downfall of the country, self loathing, hatred of white 'colonisers' really sums up some on the left. Is there nothing about the UK you like @InstantlyBella

Then you say various other things in subsequent posts, which implies you know best, and others are wrong. (The 'wrong party') In your view only!

It's a democratic country unlike the countries that need aid. We don't need to import undemocratic practices here so we become like the countries people flee from.

You have made many posts that show who you are and it doesn't match with your own high view of yourself.

Edited

No there is nothing about the 'UK' that I like. The horrific things the people of this country have done to folks around the world keeps me up at night more than I'd like. I know it might sound silly or extreme to some, but I am a deeply empathic person and I cannot stomach injustice of any sort. I will always be on the side of the people who are unable to defend themselves.

Ahh a very British trait - Brits always support the underdog..

I'm sorry? Are you referring to marganilsed people as 'dogs'? Is this actually serious?

Dragonscaledaisy · 12/05/2026 08:57

InstantlyBella · 12/05/2026 08:27

Well I'm sorry but why wouldn't you? I am a member of multiple organisations that help disadvantaged people from around the world. I've worked for 2 years with Care for Calais and donate rather generously to various charities. I don't mean to toot my own horn here but you will not find a more selfless, dedicated individual than myself. Unless you own a company expressly for the purpose of doing harm to marganilsed people then you would be lucky to have me quite frankly.

You sound devoid of any critical thinking. Nothing you've posted is particularly impressive, I'm afraid. The bar is high and you fail to meet it. Simple.

Jesus Christ. 'Underdog' is a figure of speech. Give your head a wobble.

You claim to be on the left but you absolutely don't represent me.

Except while working class people, who you've decided 'can be safely ignored' and who you clearly don't think deserve your empathy.

Again, I find your posts on this thread personally offensive.

Well I've literally never heard that expression before. The context behind it seemed incredibly suspect to me. That's why I called it out.

We aren't one homogeneous group of exactly the same people. What 'horrific ' things have 'we' done to people around the world? Is this more of your white colonial historical stuff? You do realise surely that the people who colonised countries from Britain hundreds of years ago are dead. I and others are not responsible for what happened before we were even born. Are you not aware of the history of other countries 🤔

You hate the UK. Why don't you find somewhere nicer to live? Are you aware that people who suffer injustice may also live in countries that have caused injustice to others. No country is pure and has never done anything wrong in its history!

@InstantlyBella ’Care for Calais’

So you help people come to this country that you so despise?
Sounds like the UK isn’t all that bad if you are helping people escape the horrors of France?

5128gap · 12/05/2026 09:14

Northermcharn · 12/05/2026 08:44

Ah I see, you're not accepting the changing society. We're not in 1948 anymore. You're not alone, as the labour party is demonstrating.

No one said it was easy.

'Labour isnt listening to the working class" has just become an emotive soundbite to encourage people to see Labour as betraying their traditional voting pool'

I would have thought the recent local election results, and the associated causal factors of those results might change that view. Ah well.

I'm sure you liked the look of those first two sentences as you typed them. Frame me as a dinosaur who isn't as astute as you. However they make no sense at all in response to anything I actually said.
Of course society is changing. And as part of that traditional social classifications have become blurred. Which is why statements that Labour aren't listening to the Working Class don't stand scrutiny, and allow you to invent your own definition to ensure it includes those who agree with you and excludes those who don't.
I'll say it again. If you personally don't like Labour then have the courage of your own convictions. No need to hide behind 'the working class'.

@Northermcharn can you please explain why you reported me? I just want to know what you think I did to deserve having any of my posts removed. I will even leave your thread when you give me an answer. My head is spinning right now, so please just help me understand.

Indeed.

Isn't it rather cruel @InstantlyBella to help people come to the UK, which is by your own words a horrible place to live. Maybe, if you were kinder, you'd help them to go somewhere nicer. 🤔

If you consider everything in British history a personal affront to your empathy with the world's downtrodden, without consideration for milestones like Magna Carta, habeus corpus, the English (and Scottish) common and civil legal codes, some decent architecture, lots of science and technology that have helped lift most labour out of grinding agricultural poverty and regular famine, to say nothing of magnificent music, great literature and other canons of art... in short civilisation... all I can offer is my deep sympathy @InstantlyBella .

I hope you are very young and can access a few more years in education.

True, I do usually think that way. I think the incoherence of the underdog response made me think not a genuine poster.

People would still be able to vote for whatever party they feel represents them and their interests best, for me that is what a democracy is about.

But given how important politics is in today's space, and how damaging voting for the wrong party can be for certain folks, it is high time that people are made to stand by the candidates that they choose to back. I don't want to feel like I don't know who is voting for who anymore, it's giving me too much anxiety.

I don’t think you’ve answered my question, which was whether it would call into question our democratic rights. I think it would. Do you not agree?
