The Left have a become a snivelling self-righteous mob, busy bodying around, trying to shame others

I read this quote and it encapsulates exactly how I feel

'I never thought I'd see the day when the Right became the cool ones giving the finger to the establishment, and the Left became the snivelling self-righteous ones going around shaming everybody'

AIBU to think this is what many people think these days? We didn't leave the left, the left left us.

*the quote is from John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten. He's deliberately provocative in lots of ways, but he meant this one. I fully expect some people to come on the thread to tell us all how he's a horror and said he likes Donald Trump. That would be them missing the point.. but.. Let Them..

Titania McGrath is still going - she’s hilarious.

I wonder what her opinion is on Polanski's tax fraud.

There was a significant 'Lexit' block of voters - conveniently forgotten by the raging mob.

Including the Dear Leader Jeremy Corbyn himself ( although her completely forgot about it and decided to run away instead of explaining his 40 year stance on the EU in case he upset his momentum puppeteers) and the leader of the Communist Party. Euroscepticism was a Left policy in the 70's.

Yes. Tony Benn was correct about the EU - it is not democratic, and never has been.

"Leaving the EU is a democratic and not a nationalist argument" - The Labour MP argued passionately for the UK's withdrawal from the EU all through his political career.

Sorry but this is my thread so slight diversion - wtf are the labour party doing right now? What a bunch of inadequate idiots. They are doing Nothing to help the electorate - who do they think they are?

Streeting's just resigned, Rayners muttering about how she's sorted her tax dodging status so eligible for what, burnham is in london (not that unusual but it's coincidental). What a mess. I knew labour would be bad but I never imagined they'd be this catastrophic, and incompetent. Grubby ambitious little people.

You'd think after their local election drubbing, they'd regather and come up for air united, telling the electorate how they will sort their mess out. Instead they are doing the opposite.

Still, good news for KB.

Leaving the EU has only made us more vulnerable to other foreign powers. Sovereignty cannot be thought of in terms of absolute. If we don't get closer to the EU again, we'll end up a vassal of the US. When we were members, we were at least equal to our peers within the union (in fact a bit better than that because we truly were among the top influential powers within the EU). Now, we're hoping we won't get crushed in trade wars and other wars that keep raging. We cannot thrive in a completely autonomous manner. No country does, not even the US.

Northermcharn · 15/05/2026 10:03

So here we go. it's going to be a Burnham Badenoch 2027 election. Badenoch all the way... Reform and greens will be unelectable by then, lib dems mooching a round in the mid ground as always.

Can we all stop pretending you were ever 'left wing' now? It was a weird thing to lie about anyway, but saying you'll be voting for the Converatives under Badenoch is the final nail in that coffin 🤣

Oh dear @SlumChum you are definitely one of the labour loyals for eva and eva. You can't imagine that someone used to be a labour supporter (and member in fact), and now will vote Conservative due to how utterly mindbogglingly incompetent the latter day labour party have become.. Hilarious. But it's not a surprise. More a symptom.

Why do you think there’ll be an election in 2027? Are you still hanging on to the idea a new PM would do it to get their own mandate? Pie in the sky. Labour has a historically high majority and know that they wouldn’t get the same again even if the change brought enough voters back to win. It would be political suicide. Won’t happen.

I think it will be. She's young, female, 3 children (these things matter to many), intelligent, articulate etc etc and has got an every growing support base. 3 years is just enough time for reform to hang themselves and the greens likewise.

Nope I'm a floating voter, haven't felt at home in the Labour party for a good few years. But I am still left wing, so am unlikely to back any party who is right wing. Pretty logical tbh.

Uhm no not logical. The overton window has moved significantly. I haven't moved. Things have changed.

It’s moved to the right though. So if you were left wing before you would read even more left wing now, not right wing. If you were left of Blair, for eg, the current Tories would be way off in the distance and you would be more likely to support Polanski or Corbyn.

Yep she’s polling higher than the other leaders. It’s not her leadership in question. Labour’s under threat.

No not true. It's moved further left - so things that were once seen as centre or centre left, are now apparently right. Then we have the utter BS of people like STarmer saying some women have a penis. Being accurate about this should not be left or right, it being biological fact and all - however it is the left that have run with the some women have a penis / men can have a cervix narrative. so any sensible sex realist is now apparently a right wing bigot. Just one example.

The Overton window has shifted to the right in the UK. So, if you are voting for a right wing party like the Tories, in a landscape that is adjusted to the right, then you are right wing
https://www.thenewsagents.co.uk/article/the-overton-window-why-extreme-views-are-going-mainstream-in-the-uk-5HjdD5G_2/

That's a particularly stupid article, some might say it has a motive. People who vote for reform are not far right (some may be that is true). Most just want their standard of living back, and are fed up of seeing it fall way as the days go by.

As I said above - its shifted left not right. What should be seen as a normal centrist scientific fact is now a right wing bigoted view apparently. Same with concerns about immigration This is normal but the left have pulled it so far left that it makes any centrist concerned about immigration now look right.

How is using language like snivelling, self righteous and busybodying anything but trying to shame the left? You're not exactly setting the gold standard for political debate here.

Yep. Just a load of normal blokes, representing the normal working class and their ‘concerns.’

How anyone could vote for them with a straight face is beyond me. It’s patently obvious what they are.
