The Left have a become a snivelling self-righteous mob, busy bodying around, trying to shame others

I read this quote and it encapsulates exactly how I feel

'I never thought I'd see the day when the Right became the cool ones giving the finger to the establishment, and the Left became the snivelling self-righteous ones going around shaming everybody'

AIBU to think this is what many people think these days? We didn't leave the left, the left left us.

*the quote is from John Lydon aka Johnny Rotten. He's deliberately provocative in lots of ways, but he meant this one. I fully expect some people to come on the thread to tell us all how he's a horror and said he likes Donald Trump. That would be them missing the point.. but.. Let Them..

Facebook definitely needs better moderation, like all social media platforms.

InstantlyBella · 10/05/2026 10:53

MaturingCheeseball · 10/05/2026 10:36

And how do you think that would pan out?

Come on, I’d like a reply. So “open borders” - how many would come? Millions, many millions. How would the country pay benefits? House people? Provide healthcare? We’d have vast camps of new arrivals - all in order for you to give them a vote….

As many as would want to come. And taxing the billionaires more proportionately would absolutely be enough to finance as many as 18 million additional people in the country.

Not that I particularly care about that argument because capitalism is only a couple of years from being completely toppled anyway. Then anyone can live where they want without having to 'prove their financial worth' to society.

5MinuteArgument · 10/05/2026 10:56

InstantlyBella · 10/05/2026 10:05

If it was up to me, I would open the borders for the next few years leading up to the next national election and give citizenship to every single person who comes here. Make sure they drown out Reform's votership completely.

Then the right will never get anywhere in UK politics ever again.

I think this is actually the thinking behind govts who have enabled mass immigration, from Blair onwards: import the next generations of voters.

Trouble is you get a reaction, which we are seeing now in the success of Reform and the loss of votes for Labour. Ironically even Tony Blair has come out and said we need to get a grip on our borders.

One way to catapult Reform into power with a landslide majority!

The voters will naturally switch over to the Green Party, who are more sympathetic to the plight of minorities both here and overseas.

But ultimately, if you claim to be someone of the left, you need to put all Party politics aside and come together to invite as many people to this island as you can before 2028. Get everybody naturalised and start aggressively marketing policies that these people genuinely are concerned about. The white working class can safely be ignored, they are a diminishing demographic and this is their final act of defiance against what is good for them.

That is what needs to happen. Hopefully the left can see the bigger picture and come together to make the future we all want a certainty.

You would not only lose the billionaires, you’d lose every last taxpayer full stop. Those unable to leave would down tools.

I think Reform should put this on their election leaflets to show the thinking of the liberals and leftists. Reform would win a landslide.

Indeed, and here's a selection of local comments in response to an online article about the elections, accompanied by a photo of brown skinned people (councillors). This is what people deem to be acceptable 'free speech' these days:

"Taxi drivers awards ceremony?" (139 likes)

"Is this England?" (89 likes)

"We’re all talking in a ‘hush’ way. Now here the real reason here, there are many more muslims in this photo. In my opinion, it does not matter what colour your skin is. As a Christian country, it’s reasonable to expect the people that govern this country should be Christian.
I will leave it here."

"Does this mean taxi fares will be cheaper looks like local taxi firm's Xmas party".

"Looks more like Bangladesh to me".

"Was this an English election, in England?"

"Spot the white face".

"The corruption in that photo is rife".

"That picture speaks a thousand words".

"This is [local city] in England yes?"

"OMG. I wonder if i could stand for parliament in Pakistan".

"Looks like a grooming gang".

"Oh my word. That's all I'm saying. Explanation not required."

"Spot the non Asian".

"Didn't know [local city] was in Pakistan. Countries [sic] done".

"2026 best food delivery man".

"Was the picture taken in Islamabad?"

"The absolute state of that photo".

"Any English left it [local city]?"

"Well done to Pakistan".

"[Local city]? I think you used the wrong photo by accident because this photo looks like it's from Bangladesh".

"Didn't have any white ones?"

"All British patriots".

"Spot the real English white man".

"Where in Pakistan was this photo taken?"

"You would not believe this is England".

"Home grown British politicians in charge".

"Proof that the climate is getting warmer".

"Spot the white man".

"Spot the white man".

"Look at this picture, it literally screams we need restore, the only party that will end this nightmare of what you see here".

"And how many anglo saxon white faces do you see there?"

"Barely an englishman amongst them, I wonder if I went to Pakistan and started a political party if I’d be accepted…… and people say the uk is racist haha".

"Where in the middle east is this?"

"Don't see British people".

Comment after comment like this, because 'free speech innit'. For context, if it matters, the majority of those in the photo were born here. The only comment that got moderated out was one directly referencing 'Pakis'.

This is exactly what I see, every day.

It's not being a snivelling lefty for calling these people for what they are - bigoted racist scumbags. There are no grey areas here, and freedom of speech doesn't mean these views shouldn't be criticised.

Of course we need to understand why people feel like this, but that's not the same thing as pandering to their worst instincts.

I agree, incidentally, that cancel culture (a) is a thing (b) is driven by the left and (c) needs to change.

Hmmm shame the Greens aren't more sympathetic to you know the actual tax payers. You're completely deluded but your thinking is an own goal for Reform. You're still not getting it. This is one poster's view, and respectfully to that poster, it's mental.

I am white working class, I'm anti-racist, pro-immigration (within parameters) and support higher taxes and better public services.

How dare s/he say that I can 'safely be ignored'. @InstantlyBella doesn't realise how hateful her post is.

If were up to you the country would be bankrupt within a month. Please tell me you're not one of those calling the right thick. Talk of hounding and ostracising British born citizens if they don't agree with your politics. The real face of fascism. Utterly repulsive thinking.

I just want to clarify by the way that when I stated that they could be safely ignored, I meant the anti-immigration and pro-patriotism aspect of the white working class. Not every person from that particular community. Don't take me out of context please.

Cammyk · 10/05/2026 11:18

People talk about LEFT and RIGHT as if what we hear and see in the media encapsulates everyone under those umbrella’s. The voices that are amplified are those that are loudest and those that are in the extremes. Most people live along the spectrum. Most people aren’t hatful (which ever wing you fall on). People have different priorities, and so we should. People have different living experiences. The left and the right are your neighbours and family and friends. It’s time we stop putting so much credence into what the loud mouths are saying. And find common community.

Ah you mean those who you arrogantly assign rationale to. So Bella reckons we should go back to stool dunking. Let's find out if those voters are witches eh. Frightening form of control.

I'm not so sure.

"The left' as you put it, haven't been shaming people enough. If you know anybody who voted Reform or intends to vote Reform in the future you need to call them out in public, make them explain themselves to society/their friends/colleagues etc. Make them a pariah in society. They'll get the message soon enough."

I guess she's dusting of the old dunking stool as we speak.

Northermcharn · 10/05/2026 11:28

Having read the posts on here, it seems to me that people are conflating anyone who's now 'right' (many of whom used to be centre / left but are now right due to the Overton window moving) with the far right horrible racist ex BNP folk. Some of the latter will support Reform (eg, those fb comments above), of course that is true.

However -

Most people who have moved from eg. the red wall to Reform, are not racist. They simply want their quality of life back. And no one is listening to them. They've been left behind. Labour are no longer supporting the very people they were formed for in the first place. Reform is saying all the things they want to hear - because reform are listening. The fact they will do fck all or worse - isn't the point. But the left do not care to understand this.

The Conservative party if by far the best option . Their time will come again and it won't be that far away.

I don't see anything hateful about thinking racism is bad, thinking immigration isn't destroying the country, being willing to pay higher taxes for better public services, and believing in a state that looks after its most vulnerable.

As @InstantlyBella has demonstrated with their hateful post about 'white working class' people (such as me), there are some pretty crappy elements too. But that applies on both sides.

No don't just compare what I said to something horrific like ignoring black people. That is just so disingenuous and makes you look like a lunatic.

Well all know the type of people I was talking about. The kind of white working class that are obsessed with football, usually work in manual labour jobs and have copious amounts of St George's flags all over their council house. I was not talking about every person from the white working class community, there are plenty of decent hardworking folks that are a real shining beacon for humanity.

OneTealShaker · 10/05/2026 11:39

ReginaPhalange1989 · 10/05/2026 09:57

I think the difference is that the right are overly focused on the wrong 1% (migrants) and not the 1% we should really be angry at (billionaires) funnily enough these billionaires own the papers and media that is convincing you all that migrants are the problem...

It's rasism disguised as patriarchy.

Apart from their stance on immigration can someone please explain what policies you liked of reform? Was it the abolishion of the equalities act? The privatisation of the nhs? Or was it the idea of having an 'ice' type establishment that will send anyone non British home wether they have the right to be here or not? What's reforms stance on isreal/gaza?

Because all I have heard from anyone on the right recently is 'stop the boats' the boats that have got worse because of brexit. Remember brexit? When farage printed a LIE on a bus about how it will help the NHS? Has brexit helped the NHS? Wheres all this extra money they promised from brexit? All I can see is spiralling living costs and over run boarders.

So as a middle class, hard working, tax paying, mixed herritage woman I find it difficult to vote for a party that seems to dislike anyone who isn't a white british man.

The left parties aren't great either, there is no right party to vote for at the moment, as the system is broken.

But let's all try to not be rasict, sexist or fascist towards eachother. Lets not try to insult others intelligence because they have different morals and ideas about what they want from the government.

You get arseholes on the right, and arseholes on the left... thats just humans

Angry at billionaires?

What is this? Sixth form common room?

Is that the extent of your thinking? Let’s be angry at billionaires .
