lots of us from the north did not vote for Reform or Brexit. So please stop with the condescending “will they never fucking learn”

ETA- not all of the new Reform councils are in the north or wales, some are in the south of England

I'm from the North and profoundly embarrassed at the number of Reform councillors elected in my local area. Also wondering "will they never fucking learn?" They tell each other such ridiculous shit about the sunshine and roses life they would have under Reform and are seemingly incapable of taking in any information to the contrary. That said, considering that Reform royally fuck up any council they get control of, perhaps it's good that thus has happened now. By the time there is a general election, everyone will know what charlatans they are.

GCAcademic · 08/05/2026 22:41

They’ve won all the seats in my nearest town in the South East, which is an absolute shithole. Apparently they’re going to “make things better”. I look forward to that and wish them well in their endeavours, they must have a great deal of vision and resource up their sleeves.

Walkyrie · 08/05/2026 22:42

Depends, will the elite ever ‘fucking learn’ how to cater to the wishes of the public re immigration and thus win their vote back? They’ve had 20 years.

None of the Reform councils are in Wales because we weren’t voting for councils: we were voting for our parliament!

Councils have no responsibility for immigration, so that was an own goal.

It’s like asking your postie for medical advice.

LumenLights · 08/05/2026 22:44

We’ve had a Reform council for the last year and they’ve not been too bad. Our bins are collected and roadworks are being done.

I imagine all these people you are looking down on will likely see very little change to their lives.

My point is that it is not a north/south issue, and to present it as such is divisive and unproductive.

Let’s not pretend everyone apart from Reform voters votes for their local council according to the intricacies of the counsellors plans for their area.

Nutmuncher · 08/05/2026 22:48

If you walk around some of the towns and suburbs that have voted Reform you can kind of understand their reasoning. What have they got to lose when they barely have anything as it is. When a town or village looks and feels almost unrecognisable compared to ten or fifteen years ago with no hope of things changing with the current system then it’s no wonder voters are willing to give someone else a chance regardless of how far fetched their promises and claims may seem.

The 'everyone who thinks differently to me is stupid' argument is working so well after all

QueenBambi · 08/05/2026 22:50

Lots of our immigration problems come from Brexit. Not being in the EU has prevented our ability to return people to the first safe country they entered. We lost the right to do that. Our rights have eroded massively now we are on the outside of the EU. That is thanks to Farage.

NotAnotherScarf · 08/05/2026 22:52

Err perhaps the London elite who have never had a proper job might realise that the current immigration/multicultural system doesn't work.

If Bristol is a guide, that reform will ditch the "local community " ideas which think it's 1956 and no one needs to leave their community so let's block roads and make it impossible for ambulances, fire engines and the police to get where they need to go

To perhaps stop the trans is right narrative that has men dressed as women reading to toddlers.

Just to add, you need to improve your skills at accepting that you might be wrong

Plummagic · 08/05/2026 22:53

Do Reform voters who voted in the local elections think the local council can 'stop the boats' ?

Says it all really.

gamerchick · 08/05/2026 22:56

I'm in the north and I didn't vote reform. My council has been handed to them on a platter. I feel completely sick at it.

First time I've seen the polling station so busy though and I'm hoping that by the time a general election comes along, they'll be sick to death of them.

Plummagic · 08/05/2026 22:58

Perhaps grifter Farage can use some of his 5 million gift to fill a few pot holes.

Exactly this. Our Reform candidate is an unknown - never seen in our town, no social media presence, no literature through the door, no campaign whatsoever. Nobody has a clue who he is, yet almost 1000 muppets voted for him yesterday… based on what?

Thankfully it was nowhere near enough to win a seat, but it does make me worried about who walks among us.

Absolutely this.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. If Labour or Conservative both seem to deliver the the same problems why not look elsewhere.

Plummagic · 08/05/2026 23:02

I seriously worry that Reform voters today had no fucking clue these were local elections and thought it was a general election.

InterestingDuck · 08/05/2026 23:03

Frankly, there's no party worth voting for anymore.

Yeah I feel this way. I’m probably slightly right of centre, and want to see vigorous immigration control but I despise the racist rhetoric. I also care deeply about the environment and feel far from convinced frankly that any party does, and that includes the Greens. I want the welfare state to be brought under control but not the decimation of employment law which would help many people returning to the workforce, to stay in work. It all feels impossible.

The OP is not a reform voter but thought that the Welsh were having local elections. I'm not sure what your point is.

riceuten · 08/05/2026 23:06

They're going to be disappointed that Reform are not able to deport all the brown people they said they would and prioritise White British people for services and the morons who voted for them....will blame the government
