AIBU to find my husband's constant undressing at home annoying?

My husband has asked me to post on here to guage opinions.
The minute he gets in the door he takes his top off, often- his trousers too and will just be wearing pants. He says it is more comfortable.

I'm starting to find it really annoying, once in a while if it's really hot it makes sense. But it is literally all summer and winter. It means he can't ever answer the door, just pop into the garden or grab something from the car. And to be honest, I just don't like it.

Apparently it is completely normal (his dad did it too) and he thinks I would be surprised because everyone does this in their own homes??

Dressing gown near the door to pop on when answering the door or nipping to the car.

SonyaLoosemore · 08/05/2026 16:52

Unusual but not unheard of. Can you explain exactly why it bothers you?

Boomer55 · 08/05/2026 16:52

What’s wrong with it?

whywonthelisten · 08/05/2026 16:52

I often get changed when I get home if I have been to work. So although I am not in my underwear, I don't really see at as any different; I get changed to be more comfortable.

What is so annoying about your partners body?

MaryBeardsShoes · 08/05/2026 16:52

My dad did this and it was awful growing up in the house with him. He often didn’t wear pants either. God I hated it!

Seeingadistance · 08/05/2026 16:52

You must have a huge heating bill if it's warm enough all year round for him to wander round half naked!

My nephew walks around topless in his house even though his mum has the stat set at 14 degrees 😳

Some people run hot, it seems!

Poetnojo · 08/05/2026 16:54

I've never heard of anyone doing that.
Sounds weird to me.
Dh will usually change into shorts and tshirt when he gets home though. He would never even leave the bedroom if he wasn't wearing some form of top and bottoms, would never even walk around top less at home either.

PoppySaidYesIKnow · 08/05/2026 16:54

It would annoy me too.

Wow - really? That's surprising. Is he very self conscious?

HampsterCheese90 · 08/05/2026 16:55

Have you asked him what’s actually wrong with his clothes? What makes them feel uncomfortable.

Sounds like both him and his dad may have some sort of sensory issue that makes clothes really annoying. There is probably a solution though if you find the right clothes

And the difference between pants and shorts is...

I worked with a woman who couldn't function at home unless she was in joggers and a tee shirt

amylou8 · 08/05/2026 16:57

This would bother me too. I always change into something comfy once I've finished for the day, but I wouldn't walk about in my undies.

My flatmate used to joke about the speed at which I used to get changed into my joggers when I got home from work. She's turn around to get a drink and when she turned back I'd be changed, like superman 😂

My DH and DF (added) is the same.

It would bother me, OP. I don't see why some pyjama bottoms, at the very least, would be a big ask for the reasons you mentioned.

WinterCarlisle · 08/05/2026 16:57

Is he really boiling, Jackie?

It would annoy me, too. It is a bit weird.

HoppityBun · 08/05/2026 16:58

Well, it’s normal for him and it’s his home, too. Could he wear shorts as a compromise? Of course he can just pop into the garden or the shed if he puts something else on. Leave something suitable where he can get to it easily.

The more I think of it more daft this all is. For goodness’ sake, can’t you just discuss what the problem is and reach a workable compromise. How long have you been married?

Just both of you stop deciding that the other one is wrong and sort it out between yourselves.

Really, if you can’t deal with this underpants situation,I hope you’re not blaming politicians for not being able to sort out world affairs. Just talk.

Arlanymor · 08/05/2026 16:58

"Jackie, my nipples are roasting!"

Just keep a dressing gown near to the door. Presumably it's only the fact that it prohibits him from answering the door that bothers you?

gigglygrace · 08/05/2026 16:58

I don't want to make light of this, but it did make me think of Martin in Friday Night Dinner 😁

No, not at all, he's in great shape, we have a house full of our kids ranging from 29 down to 7 and he would just be more private if there's anyone other than us 2 at home.

Choconuttolata · 08/05/2026 16:58

My son does this, he is autistic and by the end of the day wearing clothes for school he has had enough of the sensory stimuli. We compromise with wearing shorts no top as he doesn't like material on his legs rubbing against the leg shorts are manageable compared to trousers.

BambooLampshade · 08/05/2026 16:59

Urgh. That is horrible.

So he'd walk around topless if it were just you here, but not the kids?

Millymollymandy4 · 08/05/2026 17:00

This is odd OP - why can’t he wear lounger clothes?

are you sure he is not just being prepared for any potential action? 😂

do you have children?

You don't think there's a difference between walking around in a pair of underpants or in a pair of Bermuda style shorts?
