I was asked to leave B&Q, mortified

I was approached by a member of staff who said that he just reviewed footage that 3 months ago, I was recorded not scanning an item at the self checkout and they believed it was intentional and just asked me (quite nicely and compassionately I might add) to leave.

Whoopsie! 😬

I note that they have no scales at B&Q self service which makes accidents easy.

Did you do it?

AmethystDeceiver · 07/05/2026 18:24

Did you do it?

Not on purpose, no. I was probably with my kids nagging me for ice cream or something and wasn't paying attention.

So you did steal something

Conkersinautumn · 07/05/2026 18:26

Did you ask to see said footage?

😂 Not deliberately, no.

Ah that's a shame.

NotThoseKindOfEggs · 07/05/2026 18:26

Are you uniquely identifiable? How on earth did they clock you were the same person from the transaction three months ago?

Blimms · 07/05/2026 18:27

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:26

😂 Not deliberately, no.

That’s still stealing.

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:27

Conkersinautumn · 07/05/2026 18:26

Did you ask to see said footage?

No! It was too embarrassing, I just left calmly. The guy was really nice about it and seemed to be physically shaking when confronting me about this so I just wanted to leave the store.

Will you wear a disguise next time you need to shop there?

You weren’t asked if you deliberately did it, you were asked if you stole something, which you did. Did you leave the store or offer to pay for the item?

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:27

Blimms · 07/05/2026 18:27

That’s still stealing.

Couldn't give less of a fuck. I'm okay with being banned from B&Q, there's other home stores.

What was the value of the item you accidentally stole?

Why are you convinced that you did steal it and not that it might be mistaken identity?

Wonderones · 07/05/2026 18:28

Did you not think to just offer to pay for the item?

No clue, I didn't ask any questions.

OP posts:
Owlmoonstar · 07/05/2026 18:28

Can you not just reimburse them for the item, apologise, and see if they will un-ban you?

You couldn’t give less of a fuck that you’re a thief?

Retrospective1985 · 07/05/2026 18:28

Blimms · 07/05/2026 18:27

That’s still stealing.

It’s not actually. The definition of theft requires an intention to permanently deprive of something which isn’t the case if it’s a genuine error.
