I was asked to leave B&Q, mortified

I was approached by a member of staff who said that he just reviewed footage that 3 months ago, I was recorded not scanning an item at the self checkout and they believed it was intentional and just asked me (quite nicely and compassionately I might add) to leave.

Whoopsie! 😬

I note that they have no scales at B&Q self service which makes accidents easy.

OP has not admitted to stealing.

I wasn't replying to the OP, I was replying to the poster who stated most people would steal, given half the chance.

But also a teacher, as stated in another thread😆

Can you people not read or something? She said she was a teacher for 7 years and then left to do something paid better. I recommend this game to you specifically www.amazon.co.uk/Graffiti-Ent-Inc-GE-NDS-111-RRK-Kindergarten/dp/B002MT3CDO

I was in Waitrose a couple of years back, dashing for the bus. Paid at a staffed checkout as it's quicker, swiped my card and galloped for the bus stop. The next day, I realised that the payment (£75-worth) hadn't been taken. I phoned the 'Rose and they identified the till and asked me to come in to the shop. I protested (it's a trek to my nearest branch) but they were definite that they couldn't take the payment over the phone, which I thought odd. So, that afternoon I turned up at the information desk and announced myself. They kept me waiting a good ten minutes, but let me pay minus a £25 good will gesture.

Only later did I realise they must've had me on camera and been checking which person I was so that they could take me off their list of undesirables.

I'm SUCH an innocent.

I accidentally stole some bananas from the Tesco the next town over and will never return. Luckily my town has a large extra and too many little ones.

I was doing scan as you shop. Got massively flustered as DS was picking up items not on the list. I got to the till, then started scanning items again at the till, with the scanner in my hand. I had to be rescued and get the things double scanned undone and back in the bags. We got home and realised we didn't weigh the bananas. I did not enjoy eating them.

It’s horrible isn’t it! I got an awful chilled feeling down my body when I realised. The item was worth 50p 😂I should have gone back in but I was so embarrased and I panicked and just drove off. It took about 2 months for me to stop feeling like eyes were on me when I entered that Tesco!
I have no idea how people knowingly steal. I’d be sweating so much and my knees would be bloody knocking together as I left the shop 😅

Assume she’ll be a relatively junior consultant at PWC or some other corporate hell hole (at best) or it will be the title some marketing agency gives its managers.

PeopleLikeColdplayYouCantTrustPeopleJez · 07/05/2026 19:09

They probably identified you the day it happened and one of the staff recognised you now and chucked you out. You’d be surprised what retail staff notice about people and how they behave. Do you remember what it was you stole didn’t pay for that day?

Or she is a prolific shoplifter. And a teacher in Bury St Edmunds earning a ‘peasant wage’ and doesn’t want any repercussions so she’s making up a story to cover herself. Maybe stress testing it out here.

Note the immediate acceptance that she’d stolen and the highlighting that they don’t use scales so it’s ’very easy to do.’

Indeed.

Which ones ?

Probably those of us that aren't naive. You can't say people have mental health issues just because they don't believe a thread hasn't been made up😂 sounds like they have a screw loose themselves.

Possible too. I just don't buy the consultant part!

Trying to faildoxx her but also claiming everything she says here is a lie. Which one?

Tekknonan · 07/05/2026 19:16

Blimms · 07/05/2026 18:27

That’s still stealing.

No it isn't. If you didn't know you did it, then it isn't stealing. It is possible to make mistakes. I walked out of a supermarket with my wire basket full of stuff and was halfway home before I realised. Very distracted, son was ill, financial problems, all the things that take your mind off the here and now.

I went straight back and paid for them. Had I stolen them before I did that? No, of course I hadn't. Theft requires intent. No intent = no crime.

excelledyourself · 07/05/2026 19:24

That seems a long time to keep cctv footage

MaCheCazzo · 07/05/2026 19:26

I'm a consultant as well. For a small fee I'll coach you to spend the whole day eating toast and watching Judge Judy.

I take PayPal.

MidnightMeltdown · 07/05/2026 19:27

ProudAmberTurtle · 07/05/2026 18:35

To sum up:

After voting Reform you went to B&Q, where a member of staff asked you to leave for stealing something three months ago, you didn't ask what or how he knew it was you, you just left safe in the knowledge that you probably did steal something and he was shaking because you're so attractive. And you found this experience mortifying while at exactly the same time, you didn't give less of a fuck

🤣🤣

But now OP knows (if she didn't already) she has no intent in paying or returning the item

Tiggermad · 07/05/2026 19:32

How come you can remember not paying for this item then if it was done by accident ? I suspect there is more to this as how do they remember you from 3 months ago ?
Have you done it before ??

I'm really sorry you were so unwell, but it sounds like you had some pretty epic imaginary adventures!

Ha ha ! Yeah I guess you could put it that way lol

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:30

I voted Reform actually.

Course you did.

Mortified one minute, don't give a fuck the next. What's the point of this post exactly?

Seeingadistance · 07/05/2026 18:34

Was it a door?

A bath?

10ft ladder?

This thread is giving me LIFE 😆

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:49

I haven't said any of this.

Well, you did, or one of you did. I never suggested you scream at anyone like a fishwife though, and yet up that popped from nowhere!
