I was asked to leave B&Q, mortified

I was approached by a member of staff who said that he just reviewed footage that 3 months ago, I was recorded not scanning an item at the self checkout and they believed it was intentional and just asked me (quite nicely and compassionately I might add) to leave.

Whoopsie! 😬

I note that they have no scales at B&Q self service which makes accidents easy.

What are you a consultant in, OP? My guess would be a MLM boss babe rather than a medical consultant.

StripedVase · 07/05/2026 18:46

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:37

What should I have done? Start arguing and shouting like a fishwife? The guy had a bodycam.

Oh it's changed again! Were you now afraid of the man who was quaking at either your theft or your beauty?

Multiple sane options, as has been pointed out, include asking what you stole, how they knew it was you and whether you could pay for it. But you don't care and are off to Screwfix so what is it you wanted from this thread?

Overtheatlantic · 07/05/2026 18:46

ProudAmberTurtle · 07/05/2026 18:35

To sum up:

After voting Reform you went to B&Q, where a member of staff asked you to leave for stealing something three months ago, you didn't ask what or how he knew it was you, you just left safe in the knowledge that you probably did steal something and he was shaking because you're so attractive. And you found this experience mortifying while at exactly the same time, you didn't give less of a fuck

🤣🤣 Brilliant!

rwalker · 07/05/2026 18:40

They print the pictures off from cctv and have them pinned up for staff to see in various locations

Surely they just use facial recognition nowadays? See someone take something, flag their face in the store security system and then get an alert when that person next enters the store. Or perhaps when they enter any branch of B&Q 🤣. In fact, don’t Kingfisher own B&Q and Screwfix? Perhaps the OP is barred from there as well ☺️

Dinggirl · 07/05/2026 18:47

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:33

Are you the CEO of B&Q or something why are you foaming at the mouth spamming me

🤣🤣

PistachioTiramisu · 07/05/2026 18:47

OP, what an unpleasant person you sound - you steal, you think it's OK to do so because your bloody kid 'wanted an ice cream', you laugh at the man who apprehended you because 'you are a pretty young woman', you have no remorse or shame because you stole. I can't believe that any people think like this.

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:47

Guys chill out. It was an accident. This is meant to be lighthearted but some of you are getting so worked up and angry. I'm sorry this wasn't received as intended.

What would that solve?

You would have showed you didn’t intend to steal and reimbursed them for the cost so no harm done?

Reform voter.

Allegedly.

Pricelessadvice · 07/05/2026 18:48

I accidentally stole an item from Tesco years ago (put it under my arm as my hands were free) and then went to the checkout (manned till) and totally forgot about it. The checkout lady didn’t notice either. I realised when I got to the car. I didn’t go back in as I was so embarrassed and I was convinced that next time I went in there’d be a mug shot of me on the wall 😂

Figcherry · 07/05/2026 18:48

Ignore the MN perfect crew.
If I'd been stopped i would have left quietly too as I wouldn't be sure what happened or when.
Most people would steal if there were no consequences.

I haven't said any of this.

Not on purpose, no. I was probably with my kids nagging me for ice cream or something and wasn't paying attention.

I should imagine that's a pretty standard excuse so there probably wouldn't have been much point in trying to defend it!

ThatFairy · 07/05/2026 18:50

I stole a bottle of juice when I was psychotic. I thought I was in a simulation and I was a secret spy for the Russian government in a training program. And that I could just do whatever I wanted.

It was a really hot day and I had been walking for hours and I was really thirsty with no money on me. Weird experience, but there was something very freeing about it. Someone shouted at me to stop and the other staff member told her to just leave it

I just took it and walked out the shop and walked normally through the shopping centre

fromthegecko · 07/05/2026 18:50

Mama2many73 · 07/05/2026 18:46

Me too! My conversation would have gone something like....
Are you serious? Really??
Im sorry but can I see the video please.?
...and either,
'Oh thats definitely not me' or 'im so sorry just can't believe that happened! can I pay for the item please?'

There's also the possibility that they mistook something for an item that they sell when it was in fact just something else that she happened to have with her. Curiosity alone would have impelled me to get to the bottom of it.

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:27

Couldn't give less of a fuck. I'm okay with being banned from B&Q, there's other home stores.

So you are not really mortified?

Derramar · 07/05/2026 18:50

Hmm. I'm now thinking that perhaps the OP is a child, actually maybe a small group of children, probably girls, probably aged about 12, up to a bit of mischief on the Internet, making up a story and having fun with the responses!

Your reaction was quite telling. I think you knew you had stolen something.

An £81k a year not a fuck given reform voting thieving consultant. Reads like a dating profile.

Edited

I'm really sorry you were so unwell, but it sounds like you had some pretty epic imaginary adventures!

I watch a lot of bodycam footage on YouTube and protesting and making a scene could have landed me on one such video. Those videos always only show one side of the story.

My lovely MIL once walked out of M&S, across the town precinct into another shop completely forgetting she still had an M&S basket in her hand full of knickers. Accidents happen. Some of the comments on here are so over the top.

As in a medical consultant?
