I was asked to leave B&Q, mortified

I was approached by a member of staff who said that he just reviewed footage that 3 months ago, I was recorded not scanning an item at the self checkout and they believed it was intentional and just asked me (quite nicely and compassionately I might add) to leave.

Whoopsie! 😬

I note that they have no scales at B&Q self service which makes accidents easy.

Earning £81k and voting Reform???

I'm a consultant.

Yesterday you said you were a teacher of 7 years

This is so histrionic 😅

I think you need to look up the word "histrionic" in a dictionary.

I accidentally stole an item from Tesco years ago (put it under my arm as my hands were free) and then went to the checkout (manned till) and totally forgot about it. The checkout lady didn’t notice either. I realised when I got to the car. I didn’t go back in as I was so embarrassed and I was convinced that next time I went in there’d be a mug shot of me on the wall 😂

I accidentally stole some bananas from the Tesco the next town over and will never return. Luckily my town has a large extra and too many little ones.

I was doing scan as you shop. Got massively flustered as DS was picking up items not on the list. I got to the till, then started scanning items again at the till, with the scanner in my hand. I had to be rescued and get the things double scanned undone and back in the bags. We got home and realised we didn't weigh the bananas. I did not enjoy eating them.

Reminds me of when an ex accidentally fell into a jewellery shop window while holding a sledgehammer and twelve Rolex watches fell into his bag.

I just wanted to drop that I'm a proud Lloyds Premier card holder, I make about £81,000 per year.

Why should we care?

OP, what an unpleasant person you sound - you steal, you think it's OK to do so because your bloody kid 'wanted an ice cream', you laugh at the man who apprehended you because 'you are a pretty young woman', you have no remorse or shame because you stole. I can't believe that any people think like this.

For gods sake

Hmm. I'm now thinking that perhaps the OP is a child, actually maybe a small group of children, probably girls, probably aged about 12, up to a bit of mischief on the Internet, making up a story and having fun with the responses!

Tbf most of the respondents are lynch 'em and hang 'em without a trial mob.

chickenandapples · 07/05/2026 18:52

I watch a lot of bodycam footage on YouTube and protesting and making a scene could have landed me on one such video. Those videos always only show one side of the story.

I think there's a gulf between 'protesting' and 'making a scene' that you wouldn't have had to cross. Politely suggesting they must be mistaken and asking if the footage could be reviewed isn't going to make a viral video.

neptunechichester · 07/05/2026 18:57

A lot of you people have serious mental issues.

BrickBiscuit · 07/05/2026 18:57

I was contacted by my card company on behalf of an independent chain when my card payment hadn't worked due to a faulty machine days before. I went back and paid. I had items missed by the checkout due to a cashier error in a large supermarket. I realised when I unpacked at home, and did nothing. A similar barcode error left another underpayment, which I again ignored. I was undercharged by £75 in a local shop when a novice cashier mistook a very expensive item for a much cheaper version; I challenged it and insisted on being charged correctly. Another local shop offered short-dated items at 50% off but I paid full price. For me, the difference in my attitude seems to reflect what I perceive to be the ethics of the business.

Some people are just unlucky, aren't they?

Very sad.

ParadiseIsNoBunker · 07/05/2026 18:59

A consultant of what?

Nain2026 · 07/05/2026 18:59

Figcherry · 07/05/2026 18:48

Ignore the MN perfect crew.
If I'd been stopped i would have left quietly too as I wouldn't be sure what happened or when.
Most people would steal if there were no consequences.

Speak for yourself love, most of us wouldn't steal.

FeeLipa · 07/05/2026 18:59

Were the items nicked union jack flags by any chance?

Medical consultant? Thought you said you were young? 😂

Most likely she is or she would have denied it. She has also admitted to not caring if she took something without paying.

Like she's gonna tell a group of people roasting her and calling her a thief her specific job.

Dweetfidilove · 07/05/2026 19:01

Are you a member of the middle class shoplifting posse?
Haven't heard a nagging child being used as an excuse for stealing 🙄.

Megifer · 07/05/2026 19:01

Ive done this at Tesco with £200 worth of shopping 😩 i noticed it hadnt come out my bank and realised I didnt have a receipt. When I went back a week after I told them what had happened and offered to pay but they said theres no way of them tracking back, I said surely you can see i didnt pay looking at my clubcard or something? (I just didnt want to be banned tbh its my local supermarket!) Guy said dunno but I cant put a payment through now so enjoy 🤣

I lived in a bit of fear for a few weeks that Id get a call from the head office but no. Cheers Tesco! 🥂
