Giving Reform voters what they voted for

Nobarbsbeforecarbs · 06/05/2026 15:37

Taking the “giving people want they vote for” principle to its logical next step, if Labour or the Greens form the next government, should they:

  • Pass legislation to confirm the Human Rights Act no longer applies to Reform voters and/or anyone living in Reform constituencies.
  • Withdraw the right of Reform voters and/or anyone living in a Reform constituency to use the NHS unless they have private health insurance to cover the cost or can pay privately.

Just putting this out there.

You must vote Green.

Your ideas are totally crazy and unworkable.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 06/05/2026 15:44

Yanbu to suggest this. But as someone who lives in a Reform and would never contemplate voting for Reform, I am obviously not a fan of your approach.

onpills4godsake · 06/05/2026 15:46

oh dear.. this won’t end well.

Eskarina1 · 06/05/2026 15:46

I saw a post last night about non recyclable rubbish being sent to Reform constituencies. Obviously the concept of punishing people for their vote is unacceptable and illegal but it was funny.

icepopsincoming · 06/05/2026 15:47

Just don't lower yourself by copying their awful divide and rule strategy.

British voters deserve better than all this playground stupidity.

onpills4godsake · 06/05/2026 15:49

I’d quite like to scrap the nhs and pay for my own health care - I am sick of paying so much tax for a nhs that doesn’t benefit me.

I don’t vote reform- I have been either Lib Dem or labour my whole life and now I just won’t bother to vote.

the toxicity of the current debates totally disengages me

Ablondiebutagoody · 06/05/2026 15:50

I think that being able to opt out of some "services" is a great idea, providing you get a tax rebate. People should be able to take their share of the education or NHS or whatever budget to whomever they like. Rather than have to just accept the shitty Government provision.

AudiobookListener · 06/05/2026 15:52

Sorry, but I don't think that's funny. Elected officials are supposed to treat all people impartially and govern in the public interest, not just favour their own supporters or punish people for not voting for them.

The NHS doesn't benefit you?
Where do you get the pills you are on?

Sesma · 06/05/2026 15:54

I would prefer to not use the NHS and pay a bit less tax, at least then I might actually be able to see a GP if I needed to.

You say that but none of us know if we might need the NHS at some point in our futures.

Many cancers for example can only be treated on the NHS - private hospitals don’t have the facilities.

Whammyammy · 06/05/2026 16:05

Are you OK op?

Catterbat · 06/05/2026 16:06

Just bring in a basic IQ test to be eligible to vote. That’d see Reform off.

I do wonder if their ardent supporters have actually considered the possibility they might vote Reform in a Green majority area, and have a massive fuck-off detention centre built on their street.

That is essentially the point that the OP is making. She is pointing out the absurdity of what Zia Yusuf was proposing with regard to detention centres

An excellent parody of the hyperbole of left-wing virtue-signalling. Bravo!

Poodlelover25 · 06/05/2026 16:29

The Reform campaign bus is in my local town with the slogan Vote Starmer Out. I am not sure how the people ignorant enough to vote for them think that works for local elections. We have never had a Labour councillor as far as I am aware. The area has always been solidly Conservative in local and national elections with Lib Dems trailing far behind in 2nd place and Labour hardly getting a mention. In my area, Reform will split the Conservative vote and sadly I think stand a chance of getting in to hold sway over bin collections and pot holes. I find that prospect frightening enough.

cricketnut77 · 06/05/2026 16:34

Quite happy for both of those suggestions but obviously we would need a rebate from paying into the NHS . Or did you think it came for free ?

Isn't the point you pay for things irrespective of whether they benefit you? Otherwise how does anything work? I pay for other children's education - that doesn't benefit me but I don't begrudge it. As an aside the NHS could very easily benefit you at any given moment. I, of course hope it doesn't, but you could be struck by a car and need an NHS ambulance, NHS emergency care team and NHS hospital.

Sesma · 06/05/2026 16:41

I would prefer a choice not to have NHS emergency care.

In regards to potholes the Reform candidate in Sunderland - Glenn gibbins said that Nigerians should be melted down to fix them

Private hospitals don’t provide emergency care though in many cases so are you saying you would choose not to be treated if you had a medical emergency?

CanaryLibra · 06/05/2026 16:45

I'd be ok with opting out of the NHS as long as my tax and NI deductions were amended accordingly.

I pay for private GP and healthcare anyway as it is.

No, at the moment I would have to be treated by the NHS as there isn't other provision but I would like for there to be an alternative of some sort of private emergency care either from insurance or pay as you go.

Great in theory. Until the insurance won’t cover x or y, or they didn’t get the appropriate cover, or they can’t afford the excess or co pay or whatever it is.

Then you’d get the ones who opt out but choose not to buy private insurance…

then what? We actually turn these people away? Gofundme’s US style?

there seems to be a fair amount of people who go abroad with no health or travel insurance, and then expect the public or taxpayer to pick up the bills. I don’t have great faith that people would opt out and then buy health/unemployment/critical illness cover.

I had to google as a fact check as the comment seemed too horrific to be true. Sadly, it appears that he did indeed say this. I find these people very scary and cannot understand why anyone would want Reform in charge of anything
