Giving Reform voters what they voted for

Nobarbsbeforecarbs · 06/05/2026 15:37

Taking the “giving people want they vote for” principle to its logical next step, if Labour or the Greens form the next government, should they:

  • Pass legislation to confirm the Human Rights Act no longer applies to Reform voters and/or anyone living in Reform constituencies.
  • Withdraw the right of Reform voters and/or anyone living in a Reform constituency to use the NHS unless they have private health insurance to cover the cost or can pay privately.

Just putting this out there.

One of the advantages Reform have is that they’ve never been in power so can claim all kinds of things that parties with records find it hard to do as you can point out their failings. If Reform win a lot of seats and mess up, which I think likely, it will put people off them. I think that’s what needs to happen for some people to realise what they’re like unfortunately.

I’m not sure your examples are the best. Surely the dislike of the human rights act is due to those news stories of a convicted rapist being allowed to stay in the UK because they’d be deprived of a family life or some such nonsense. Those stories make most people roll their eyes. Not saying that’s the solution but sorting out issues like that would stop people voting for extreme parties.

You say that but none of us know if we might need the NHS at some point in our futures.

Many cancers for example can only be treated on the NHS - private hospitals don’t have the facilities.

Or A&E depts

Sesma · 06/05/2026 15:54

I would prefer to not use the NHS and pay a bit less tax, at least then I might actually be able to see a GP if I needed to.

If you are seriously injured in a RTA, or have a heart attack, or break a leg, good luck with finding a private hospital with an A&E department.

A 2025 YouGov survey found:

  • 69% of ethnic minority respondents viewed Reform as a racist party

I wonder who bothered to do the survey? All the older people referenced here, do you think?

it’s a survey.. it must be true.

In a survey of prison inmates, 94.6% of respondents thought the police were arseholes.

I’d quite like to scrap the nhs and pay for my own health care - I am sick of paying so much tax for a nhs that doesn’t benefit me.

I don’t vote reform- I have been either Lib Dem or labour my whole life and now I just won’t bother to vote.

the toxicity of the current debates totally disengages me

Farage isn’t looking to implement an improved healthcare system. He isn’t motivated in the slightest by what would give better patient outcomes. His ambitions lie in profit only. The only people who would benefit under Reform are the very richest. Those who are simply paying high taxes in the course of their employment are not who he’s in it for.

Nereidd · 06/05/2026 18:21

Gosh this is getting boring now.

I would prefer a choice not to have NHS emergency care.

There isn't another type. Unless you have a helicopter on stand-by to take your somewhere overseas.

Tbh I don't think it would be a bad idea to give their voters a taste of their own medicine. I've seen demographic breakdowns of Reform voters and it's terrifying. The people most likely to be fucked over by Reform and their policies, other than immigrants, are the people most likely to vote for them - absolute fools who I no longer feel any compassion for. Part of me hopes they get screwed by Reform. My only concern, is that they won't be bright enough to see that they brought it upon themselves, and turn even further to the right.

They were Brexiteers to start with, and that hasn't gone the way they thought it would, so now they're voting for Reform and it's going to get even worse.

The mind boggles.

The problem is, they take the rest of us with them.

On the original premise of the thread I'd be very happy if those of us who voted to stay in the EU could keep our burgundy passports and freedom of movement! The Brexiteers can have their blue ones and the EES.

Wow! That is quite some statement. Genuinely hope this doesn't happen to you. But if you get cancer or your car is in a serious road traffic accident
Or your partner gets MS or one of the other million life changing chronic illnesses that can randomly happen to us and you suddenly realise private health care isn't always that great, unless you are exceptionally well, wealthy and would have been better off just paying taxes into the nhs anyway. Let's talk again then.
Or if you have a child and that child, it becomes disabled at a young age. The rest of their life is shit because they can't afford private health care. Then once again your choices may come and bite you on the arse.

It’s absolutely horrific. If you look up Cody dahler on IG he details many more similar comments from reform candidates. It’s absolutely shocking and they seem to get away with it. Meanwhile the media are running a smear campaign on ZP I would be surprised if they claim next that he didn’t put a lid back on a pen or something !!

Being a left wing politician is like being a woman.

In the same way a woman has to be 100 times better than a man to be considered as good, a Labour (or Green) politician has to be 100 times better than a Tory to be considered as good.

Look at how much Boris got away with compared with Starmer who is actually perfectly competent in many ways. At least we've had a grown-up government for nearly two years and they actually do things.

The media used to try to smear Caroline Lucas too.

WearyAuldWumman · 06/05/2026 18:33

I'm assuming that this is a riposte to Farage's FB post yesterday, where he suggested removing any migrants from areas with Reform representatives and placing them in areas with Green representatives?

Eskarina1 · 06/05/2026 15:46

I saw a post last night about non recyclable rubbish being sent to Reform constituencies. Obviously the concept of punishing people for their vote is unacceptable and illegal but it was funny.

That was on Newsthump and I am definitely in for that one.
Newsthump is parody, it's a real shame that Reform are not.

PoachedSmoke · 06/05/2026 18:37

I mean, I would personally welcome serious reform to the NHS. It doesn't currently work and people keep voting for more of the same. I really don't blame anyone for voting Reform as I can see how they've been pushed there by the failure of the other parties. I'd rather keep my NI contributions and pay private.

I know you're joking OP but this won't be an unattractive proposal to some...

domenica1 · 06/05/2026 18:40

Honestly you sound like Farage — who posted today that when illegal migrants are rounded up for deportation under the next Reform government, they will be housed in detention centres in areas with Green MPs and councils pending their removal.

both as bad as each other IMO

If you don’t bother to vote then you are actively choosing this kind of toxicity! Reform thrives on apathy as well as the predictable nastiness.

Me too. I quite like the idea of crippling medical debt and going bankrupt/losing my home over it.

DaisyDooley · 06/05/2026 18:48

Can you provide me with a link @Nobarbsbeforecarbs from Reform saying that they intend to privatise the NHS so -I presume-In theory the NHS ceases to exsist.
Ergo a link showing how we would have zero human rights -rather than just removing us from the ECHR.

Now can I get back to EU please?

For a start we can start properly charging those who aren't entitled to free NHS care. Other countries you need to produce. Credit card to even get through the doors. Then get rid of the woke ideology, the chest feeding, the men demanding smear tests, female wards with men in them. Get rid of several layers of clipboard carrying managers .
Simplify the whole process. Turn GP surgeries into walk in centres. You get seen in the order you walk in. Serious injuries/illnesses only at A&E.

I have it through work. Pre existing conditions are covered.

Do you think pre-existing conditions aren’t covered in Europe? Do you think those in Europe can’t get cancer care? Because the UK cancer care is at the rock bottom of league tables compared with the rest of Europe and their partly insurance backed systems.

What about people who can't work though? Or don't have the highest level of insurance? What do they do? Do you think - and please realise I'm not having a go, I'm honestly curious - that people without children shouldn't pay for education? Or any supported child benefits? My view is that people shouldn't be be allowed to opt only into taxes that benefits them directly as it's shortsighted and a stable society necessities an element of give and take - and that applies to all services. But I respect you might think differently and I'm interested in that, but not aggressively so. Thanks.

Exactly. I’ve never needed the Fire Dept. Perhaps I should be able to opt out. And if my house ever catches fire, they turn up with a credit card machine, and we have to swipe £10k before they start, or watch our home burn to the ground.

Hi. He is quite cagey about it these days because his schtick is to hoodwink the sorts of voters who can’t afford health insurance but here’s a clip for you https://www.instagram.com/reel/DXMwZGygnoc/?igsh=aXI5bmR5bnplM3Bk

I think it’s about the same as reform saying they’ll build “detention centres” in green constituencies only. I wonder how our political landscape as fallen into such chaos.
