Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

I remember these little pig shaped baked beans and bacon flavour puffed potato snacks…they were awesome! And tomato snaps were fab too

VickyEadieofThigh · 04/05/2026 14:38

I'm nearly 68. I really miss Amazin' Raisin chocolate bars and the legendary Aztec bar (both available in the early 1970s).

And oh, the chunky dairy milk bars we got then- and the Milk Tray bar!

I loved the treacle one.

l loved them all.
originally the chocolate one didn’t have sauce but it was still sooooo good.
My grandmother (a traditional war bride ) shopped every other day even though she was an early buyer of a fridge and a freezer and saw the large upcoming supermarkets as somewhere to go to stock up.
So we went to the big Asda twice a year and her pantry would be filled with tins, packets, dried fruit, flour etc.
l used to play ‘shops’ with all the stuff.
I can remember organising twenty -yes twenty -Heinz sponge puddings.
My favourite was the golden syrup & the lemon curd which was in a green tin.
I loved a Heinz sponge pudding so so much.
I can still hear the noise the tin made when grandma stabbed it with the tin opener through a tea towel!

Georgieporgie29 · 04/05/2026 14:39

Same as previous pp’s
Spira
Secret Bar
Flyte (my favourite)

also:-
pizza rollers like a ball of dough with the filling inside that you put in the microwave (and the filling would burn your tongue off but was totally worth it)

WiddlinDiddlin · 04/05/2026 14:39

Cheese Moments... oh they were incredible and far superior to the Scampi Fries and Bacon fries that they still do.

Smiths Chipsticks, salted. THere is nothing similar and why discontinue the salted version vs the salt and vinegar?!

DaisyDooley · 04/05/2026 14:40

And I still miss a Cadburys Cabana,

Im also missing the ‘Delta’ snacks on this thread. I loved them and had forgotten all about them.

Aluna · 04/05/2026 14:40

Heinz did a chocolate pudding in a tin in the early 2000s, possibly into the 2010s? I often crave it with custard. The other microwave chocolate puddings available these days just don’t taste the same.

Oh I loved those

ForPearlViper · 04/05/2026 14:42

I'm still bitter about the disappearance of Abbey Crunch biscuits. It's been decades but I'll take my grudge with McVities to my grave.

NewBrightonEel · 04/05/2026 14:42

Mingles - they were heavenly!

FuzzyPuffling · 04/05/2026 14:42

St Ives Lactic cheese.

Ooh ice magic the stuff which went onto ice cream as a thick chocolate sauce and went solid as soon as it hit the ice cream.

I thought it was MIRACULOUS

Wherearemyspecs4 · 04/05/2026 14:43

@summerchild82 sadly not. I bought a (much more expensive!) 4 pack from Aldi last week but they just don't hit the same. I'm sat here now whistfully remembering them. They have been for several months my midweek treat on the evening my Husband goes out - I'd melt a plastic cheese slice and some jalapenos on top in tge air fryer and have with salad and burger sauce or mayo. Glorious!

Xanadu78 · 04/05/2026 14:43

Birds hot banana crunch and the chocolate version too. They were amazing for hiking and DofE as you could make a warm delicious filling dessert easily.

Pacers and Spangles (I am old as feck).

I think there used to be minty eggs - like creme eggs but mint fondant. Mmmmm!

Pacers and Spangles (I am old as feck).
I remember both of those GrinWasn't a Spangles fan but I adored Pacers. So chewy.

FlorenceAndTheSewingMachine · 04/05/2026 14:44

I used to love a nutty bar, I really really miss them

I miss the Secret and Spira bars

Whatistrumpdoingnow · 04/05/2026 14:44

Quorn gammon steaks - loved them for quick tea with a pineapple ring or fried egg

Cheese McCoy’s. So much better than the modern-day cheese and onion interlopers

Dark chocolate bounty- the red one 😭

Oh wow, I'd forgotten about them..

And I still miss a Cadburys Cabana
Were they the ones with, was it cherries in them? And nuts and something else (wafer?) Covered in chocolate.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 04/05/2026 14:45

The bastards changed the Twix recipe. One of my favourites ruined forever.

Wherearemyspecs4 · 04/05/2026 14:45

Also just remembered some biscuits from the 1980s that were made with yoghurt so not overly sweet. They were lush but nobody else ever remembers them. Maybe I dreamed them!
