Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

I miss the Secret and Spira bars

Mars delight. Loved those.

rc22 · 04/05/2026 14:47

Tooty frooties.

SophiePie · 04/05/2026 14:47

I still miss these!

ETA: Oops, link didn't add, it was a pic of the purple wonkalate bars from the early 2000s

SweetcornFritter · 04/05/2026 14:47

Tesco used to stock a brand of tinned Thai tuna green curry that I could have eaten every night. You can still get a similar different brand version in the Far East but discontinued here years ago. I wish they would bring it back, it was fabulous and so easy to make a satisfying small meal from.

I used to love a nutty bar, I really really miss them

Omg I’d forgotten about these!!! So so good 😋
Texan bars were a hit too. And Lincoln biscuits with all the bumps!

Tooty frooties.

Yes! The pale pink ones were the best ones. Whatever happened to fruit polos?

It's a miracle I have any teeth left ...

The old 00s Burger King veggie burgers. A pyramid shape long chocolate bar with caramel inside in late 80s/early 90s.

Lovecats173694 · 04/05/2026 14:49

Mars delight bars. Incredible. Still mourn them from time to time

Original toast toppers in a tin from the 70s. They had a brief revival about 15 years ago, and they were nothing like the original. Another childhood bubble saditically burst by the food industry.

I also would love an original Ski fruit mousse in a waxed pot shaped a bit like a milk churn. Proper creamy 😋

ConstanzeMozart · 04/05/2026 14:51

Romany biscuits. Chocolate cream sandwich things. Rich as fuck.
Biarritz bars. Chunky chocolate with crunchy mint bits. Think they did an orange one too, but the chocolate ones had my heart.
Piglets. Crisps that were just basically a bubble like you get in ordinary crisps, with a tiny pig's head, feet and tail. Obviously bacon flavoured. You could stand them up on the sofa arm.

Anyone remember those chocolate sweetie things, I think you used to get them as part of a 10p mix, in tiny foil cupcake-style cups? The cups came in different shiny pastel colours and the sweetie was a lump of chocolate in the shape of a mini cupcake, and had a really odd but delicious 'cold' feel and taste to it (if taste is the word; it's hard to describe – I just mean they seemed cold when you ate them). They weren't called iced gems, but it was something like that.

Much more recently, in Whole Foods, gluten-free (I know gf is usually horrible but these aren't) millionaire's shortbread type things, but with (I think) dates in the filling as well. Seriously addictive, and you could kid yourself they were healthy.

Uniqueheartbee · 04/05/2026 14:51

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but the chocolate bar “echo”

@TomatoSandwiches
I have some brilliant news for you! Golden Grahams came back recently.
'Favourite' Nestle cereal is RETURNING to supermarket shelves after being discontinued four years ago
I bought them in Home Bargain recently.

I love you, thank you 😍

There was a cinnamon danish pastry frozen and also some posh looking ice cream Italian in a round tub and it had circles getting smaller to the top, both in 80s in safeways. Mighty white bread.

Springisintheairohyeah · 04/05/2026 14:53

This is bringing back so many memories! The toffee and mallow eggs which I'd forgotten all about until now, proper Lucozade, tinned chocolate pudding, and Phileus Fogg (which were mysteriously aways reserved for adults). Cadbury used to do an "egg and spoon" chocolate thing in an egg box which was delicious. I'd also sign any petition in favour of bringing back Cadbury Fuse bars (with proper old school Cadbury chocolate, not the palm oil filled rubbish that seems to be taking over)

Crispy noodles, hard bits of yellow looking plastic that you fried and they curled up, came is a ready meal from the 70’s.

Ahh yes I often explain these noodles to people & they never know them! They were lush as a topping.

Also miss Secrets chocolate bar.
And Bachelor’s mushroom & wine pasta n sauce (a staple of my student days).

Don't know. I mean this sort of thing except in my memory the colours were more pastel.

Gatekeeper · 04/05/2026 14:56

Twiglets are Still available but bloody shite now just so they can say its vegan. How can it be classed as 'Original' when they have totally veered off course from the delicious 1930s recipe
