Pining for discontinued foods! (lighthearted) rant!

About 20 years ago when I was at Uni, I lived opposite a LIDL (back when you had to find a carboard box to carry your stuff around!). They used to do a Ristorante Frutti Di Mare frozen pizza (I think it was 2 in a box) and it still pisses me off that it was discontinued. It wasn't just prawns, it had mussels and other stuff (possibly olives) on it. I still think about the bastard things today and I just thought there must be others who have their long lost foods.

Others for me are Brannigans crisps and more recently, Fries To Go! Oh how I could demolish some Fries To Go right now!

What are yours? Join in my rant :)

Cote d’Or Zero chocolate bar. It came in a silver wrapper.
Whoever imported them into Ireland, where I live, stopped. Sadly.

Oh god they were delicious if I remember them right. They had elephants on the packaging and the most amazing praline centers

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 04/05/2026 14:28

Walkers Snaps cheese flavour. So much better than Quavers.

The proper Milky Way. Changed briefly to a Flyte bar and then disappeared. Why would anyone want vanilla filling when they can have chocolate?

Although I wouldn't buy them now, the Atkins chocolate decadence bar was so much better than all the other awful low carb bars. They spent 20 years perfecting the recipe and then discontinued it.

Loads of things. You can guarantee that if I like it, it will be discontinued.

Heinz did a chocolate pudding in a tin in the early 2000s, possibly into the 2010s? I often crave it with custard. The other microwave chocolate puddings available these days just don’t taste the same.

I loved the treacle one.

Vienetta Chocolate Brownie. It was the best.

AnotherNameChange1234567 · 04/05/2026 14:29

United biscuits. And Breakaways. Bastard biscuit-meddlers.

Never knew there was a Cheese Potato Waffle but now I’m pining for that as well!

dapsnotplimsolls · 04/05/2026 14:30

Pacers and Spangles (I am old as feck).

I think there used to be minty eggs - like creme eggs but mint fondant. Mmmmm!

Imdunfer · 04/05/2026 14:30

Swiss kit. Used to love them.

And Buttersnap, but Daim are a good substitute.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 04/05/2026 14:31

Polo citrus!!!!

Still available everywhere in Switzerland in a wide range of styles including Ovalmatine chocolate eggs, bars, 'branches', nuggets, biscuits, a spread I think, etc..., etc...

Edited

Knew it was definitely still available in Europe. Think you can also get it in Belgium too. But just want to be able to grab a bar in the corner shop like I did as a child 🤣

God, I could go for a Secret Bar. Or a Sprira. I don’t know why having chocolate in different shapes makes it taste better but it just does.

Not sure if this counts as discontinued but I wish they would bring back the old Feast ice creams with proper chocolate in the middle. I bought some recently on a whim and whatever that is in the middle isn’t chocolate. You used to to be able to eat all the ice cream and still have solid chocolate in the middle, now it’s just chocolate flavour mush.

Another vote for Spira! And you are right, the shape of the chocolate really does affect the taste, I loved Dairy Milk bubbly, too.

Also miss the Quorn ‘tuna’ melts. And M&S baked chocolate cheesecake. The non-baked sort is just not the same.

Crispy noodles, hard bits of yellow looking plastic that you fried and they curled up, came is a ready meal from the 70’s.

They were in the Vesta chow mein. If you ever find one in a shop and think about buying and eating it for the sake of nostalgia... don't. They are not the same. Not even the crispy noodles.

Wherearemyspecs4 · 04/05/2026 14:32

Only just recently discontinued, but some dirt cheap crispy chicken burgers from Iceland. Absolute dupe for McD's McChicken sandwich. 2 for £1 in a purple packet. My guilty pleasure. I nearly cried when I went in recently and was told they had gone.

Lucozade was wonderful when it was in glass bottles with a cellophane wrapper.

and no fucking sweetener

I remember Pacers! But only vaguely, I was so young when they were discontinued that for years (until the Internet, really) I thought I’d imagined them!!!

cafe noir biscuits from booths, potato triangles and other salty snacks from Sainsbury's were delicious if they bring them back I'm buying a box of them. That chocolate bar with white and milk chocolate swirled together and squash with sugar I cant have sweeteners they upset my stomach and make me hyper.

Still available here in Ireland. My mother loves but I always thought they were rank lol

I still haven't forgiven M&S for discontinuing their banoffee cheesecake

apparently you can make pasta puff up like that if you deep fry it

Auburngal · 04/05/2026 14:35

Walkers Bitza Pizza
Can’t remember the name. They were mini cheese flavour biscuits shaped many ways - club suit, heart, oval etc.
Maverick bars

Oh no, that's like me and my Fries To Go :( - Have you got a Herons or Farmfoods nearby? That's the kind of tasty shite they sell? x

When I was marginally less skint than usual as a student (aeons ago) my occasional treat for myself was a Vesta Paella.

I imagine I’d enjoy one now in the same way I very occasionally enjoy a Pot Noodle, i.e. deliciously unhealthy shite.
