Would you judge some who’s clothing is mostly primark or supermarket brands

It’s me by the way and that’s the case for my clothes

I’d never notice. I generally wear quite expensive clothes (not designer!) but no one can tell because nothing has a logo.
A colleague of mine always looks lovely, I often compliment her on her dress or trousers etc and she always says thanks, laughs and says it’s from Sainsburys/tescos - she earns very well and my judgement is that she’s savvy about where she spends her money and always looks great.

pointythings · Yesterday 21:12

Not in the slightest. My clothes are a mix of supermarket, ethical and charity shopped. In fact, I have some Sainsbury's tops and skirts happily heading into their 6th year of wear.

Depends. If you were on a high wage and couldn’t be bothered to spend more, yes. If you couldn’t afford to buy more expensive clothes, no.

I’d judge this. How extraordinarily shallow. Your Clothes don’t make you a better person

HappyAsASandboy · Yesterday 21:13

I don’t think I’d know. Some of the clothes I’ve been complemented on recently have been lots of years old!

I genuinely would recognise any item as supermarkets, and certainly wouldn’t judge it on that basis

clippysip · Yesterday 21:13

I wouldn't notice where their clothes came from at all.

BinNightTonight · Yesterday 21:13

I wouldn't notice. Most of my clothes are from Vinted!

ERthree · Yesterday 21:16

As long as they are clean who cares

Spaceman101 · Yesterday 21:18

Nope. I'm mostly kitted out in TU, but I do also like to sew a bit.

Sometimeswinning · Yesterday 21:20

dudsville · Yesterday 21:01

No. I am judgemental, but more about ethical things, like if someone treated someone or something else badly then I would judge. I don't care where you shop and how you dress.

I mean if you want ethical reasons to judge cheap clothes. Primark is a quick fashion, high waste shop.

So you should judge. I tend not to use these shops. It’s expensive though. I either pay the price or use Vinted.

To be fair though I wouldn’t have a clue where your clothes are from.

mondaytosunday · Yesterday 21:20

Nope

Givemeallthewine8 · Yesterday 21:21

I have a range of clothing from supermarket/primark to expensive designer. I usually only ever get complimented on my Tesco fandf clothes.

Why?
I earn a lot but prefer to spend on books, holidays, children's education, pension, savings, mortgage overpayments, nice candles, cheeses, decent coffee ...

SaulHudsonDavidJones · Yesterday 21:23

Is this an ethical question?

Fast fashion is unsustainable and consumers mindlessly supporting it need to give their heads a wobble.

However, this isn't exactly the same as buying clothes at a supermarket, if you cherish them, are selective of material choice and use them for very many years. But this would be atypical I suppose.

Community Clothing and charity shops only for me.

Same for me. I wouldn’t judge you, but personally I try not to buy Primark or Shein from an environmental perspective. Bad quality and fast fashion. That’s not to say I don’t own the odd piece from Primark, but I try not to. But otherwise I couldn’t care less what people dress in.

ChristmasCwtch · Yesterday 21:24

Definitely not. If you’re clean, I doubt many people would judge/think about where you buy your clothes.

RollOnSunshine · Yesterday 21:24

Those that matter don't care and those that care don't matter.

NormasArse · Yesterday 21:26

I wouldn’t know where you bought your clothes, unless I looked inside them to see the label, and I’m not into that.

Loub1987 · Yesterday 21:26

I wish I had the time, money or knowledge to notice!

notacooldad · Yesterday 21:26

Depends. If you were on a high wage and couldn’t be bothered to spend more, yes.
Why though?
I have a friend on a high wage and nearly all her clothes are Primark. She prefers to spend her money on her Villa in Spain and having nice cars.

Aparecium · Yesterday 21:27

Would not even occur to me.

I have a summer dress from Sainsbury, and every time I wear it I get compliments. Not just from friends, but from colleagues and from strangers, too. I’m not shy of telling them where I got it, if they’re interested. Though I won’t bother this year, as they won’t be able to buy one.

Why?
I "can't be bothered" to spend more.
There's better things to spend money on!

Gettingbysomehow · Yesterday 21:27

I couldnt care less. A lot of my clothes come from Tu, ebay, asda with the occasional higher quality item.

LetaLestrange · Yesterday 21:27

Cheap clothes don’t have to look cheap. I’ve really started to learn about how to style clothes and how to look “put together”.

Last week I went out dressed in a Primark top & C&A skirt and was told multiple times how glamorous I looked !

familyissues12345 · Yesterday 21:27

Nope! We’re a high income family, and the bulk of my clothes come from Tesco and TU. Even better if they were on the sale rail!

Im just not bothered about labels. I’m also plus size and feel supermarkets generally better cater for 20+ sizing than “brands” do
