Would you judge some who’s clothing is mostly primark or supermarket brands

It’s me by the way and that’s the case for my clothes

OP posts:

No. I wouldn't give a shit

Depends. If you were on a high wage and couldn’t be bothered to spend more, yes. If you couldn’t afford to buy more expensive clothes, no.

Couldn't be bothered to spend more? What does this mean? That people should spend a certain amount?

What would your judgement of them be?

Whataninterestinglookingpotato · Yesterday 20:42

No, I doubt I’d notice and if I did it would be because I had the same item 😂

Marble10 · Yesterday 20:43

Nope, supermarkets have some great stuff! Loving F&F at the min myself!

FancyAnotherCuppa · Yesterday 20:44

No judgement. I’d want tips. Most of my clothes are Tesco, sainos or primark. If I’m buying “nicer” brands (Zara, mango, M&S) it’s off vinted. And FWIW I’m in a very high tax bracket with no kids so according to a PP I should be spending more but what’s the point - they all come from the same factory anyway

Inevergotthatfar · Yesterday 20:45

I wouldn't notice. Not many people would.

PyongyangKipperbang · Yesterday 20:46

Lockdown converted me to Sainsburys clothes! It was the only place you could look at stuff without risking it online as our local one is huge. My sister and I get most of our stuff from there now, the quality is good and the size range is excellent too.

Chatsbots · Yesterday 20:48

My day clothes come from supermarkets and my fancy hobby stuff comes mostly from ebay.

Only thing I spend megabucks on are trainers, as I have sensitive feet.

Judge away.

Peony1985 · Yesterday 20:51

People notice your style rather than price surely.
Even the expensive brands put their stuff on sale after a few months and enviably end up in the charity shop in a few years.

There is so much clothing now. I can always find whatever item I want at a discounted price.

PurpleSky300 · Yesterday 20:54

Wouldn't notice or care. Everyone I know buys clothes from Vinted etc and such like now, the high street is dead.

Seriously?
OK if you're skint but ok for poor people? Judgy much

Happyjoe · Yesterday 20:57

Never given two hoots what people wear when it comes down to it. If I did it would be those people who wear overt designer clothes, a little ostentatious but only because I've met a few of those in my line of work and they were not very nice as people!

By the way, I am wearing a Sains cardigan now which I have had for about 8 years. It's still in good condition, less in landfill. Don't know if still the case but their knitwear was good stuff.

Why would you judge someone for not sounding more on clothes, even if on a higher budget? Genuinely curious

QuizzlyBears · Yesterday 20:58

I wouldn’t know what you’re wearing and honestly wouldn’t care if I did. I’m currently wearing a £70 shirt, Asda jeans and a Tesco bra with ridiculously priced trainers - my income is high but I buy what I like, regardless of if it’s from a supermarket!

  1. I would judge anyone for anything. I'm extremely judgemental
  2. Yes I would have done, before the cost of living crisis, pre 2020. I'm comfortably middle class but I'm now in Primark regularly because everything else is such a bloody rip off!

I was in a shop called Free People and found a skirt that looked like it could have been from Primark going for £78.

The cost of living crisis has humbled me and made me a lot less snobby.

dudsville · Yesterday 21:01

No. I am judgemental, but more about ethical things, like if someone treated someone or something else badly then I would judge. I don't care where you shop and how you dress.

AImportantMermaid · Yesterday 21:04

I wouldn’t have a clue. I can’t tell whether your jacket is Asda or Armani. I don’t know or care if your jeans are Sainsbury’s or St. Laurent, and I don’t move in circles where that would matter.

I avoid the really horrible fabrics - the jumpers that already going bobbly in the shop, the nightdresses made out of recycled plastic bottles, and one millimeter thick socks, but I do search out cotton tops, cashmere jumpers, and linen shirts from supermarket and high street brands, esp. if I can find them on Vinted.

Beeloux · Yesterday 21:06

No. All of my clothes are from the charity shop or primark. I often get compliments even off strangers.

Most normal people couldn’t care less what brands people wear.

CocteauTwin · Yesterday 21:08

I certainly wouldn't judge anyone on what they wear, and I agree a lot of supermarket/Primark stuff is made in the same factories as more expensive brands. My rule is only to buy natural fibres, and Primark have been great lately with a lot of lovely linen and cotton items. I also rate Sainsburys, especially for jeans. I do sometimes by from more expensive brands but tend to stick to sales only there.

That is such a weird attitude.

ThisIsTheAge · Yesterday 21:09

Shopping7777 · Yesterday 19:44

I guess you can tell they are cheap

No you can't!

I can honestly say I take little to no notice of people's clothes in terms of cheap/quality. I'd be looking for style, colours that suit, stains/rips and very little else.

I promise you are judging yourself way more harshly than others are 💐

ImthatBoleyngirl · Yesterday 21:09

Nope

MrCollinsandhisboiledpotatoes · Yesterday 21:10

I wouldn't notice, and in my experience, noone really notices.

I buy from all kinds of places. Expensive brands, right down to supermarkets.

And I can genuinely say, the dress I get the most compliments on is good old Florence and Fred. Because it's a nice colour and pattern, it fits me well and I accessories it perfectly. If people ask I have no hesitation telling them it's from Tesco.
I've also mended it twice.

That's such an odd thing to be judgemental about. Is it a rule that if someone is earns well, they can't shop from the high street/supermarket brands?

What a strange thing to say.
