AIBU to rethink things over DH's stag weekend Reform shirt?

Wavery2 · 24/04/2026 22:42

DH is on his stag weekend and I’ve just been sent a photo of his night one outfit for their city centre bar crawl.

He’s in a full football kit with a blue Reform shirt complete with ‘Farage 10’ on the back.

AIBU to consider LTB?!

I personally think getting too obsessed with politics is very detrimental to one's personality and mood levels.

Rachelshair · 24/04/2026 22:45

It's a joke surely?

Explain what's funny.

Manicmondayss · 24/04/2026 22:46

I expect he was made to wear it. Unknot your knickers

GoatsOfNavahoe · 24/04/2026 22:47

Yes, cancel the wedding immediately.

I would assume that the DH is the complete opposite of a reform supporting football hooligan that it's supposed to be a funny costume? If it's realistic then grim.

meganorks · 24/04/2026 22:49

To be honest, I'd take it as a positive sign. The point will be to do something as awful as possible to the groom. So this to me shows this is a million miles from his views (and the friends who've arranged it). He's not actually out on his stag canvassing for votes!

Alwaysthesameoldstory · 24/04/2026 22:49

I'd seriously be calling off the wedding for that alone OP. And that's before you find out what other shenanigans he gets up to on stag shindig.

This 👆

In my day, we made the groom wear suspenders and a basque, and shaved his eyebrows.

Wearing a Reform shirt is infinitely more humiliating.

GingersOwner26 · 24/04/2026 23:09

I've sat across a restaurant from a groom who'd been dressed up as an Oompa Loompa before, and I remember my cousin's STBXH was made to wear the football strip of a team he actively dislikes. Could it have been something like that?

Wavery2 · 24/04/2026 23:12

He is voting Reform, he has been very vocal about that!

If his mates have made him wear it because he can't stand Farage, then I think you've probably got to be pretty drunk to actually find it funny but fair enough - they've probably had enough alcohol to think it's hilarious.

If the guy actually likes Farage? Well, he wouldn't be on his stag do in that case because there's no way I'd be marrying him.

And you’re still marrying him?

And you’ve agreed to marry him?

Oh dear. Well that rather changes things.

I don't really understand the thread if that's the case. Why would you ask if you should LTB for wearing a Reform football kit if you're ok with him being "very vocal" about his support for the far right.

Fascism is acceptable but football is not?

IrradiatedHaggis · 24/04/2026 23:22

So you already knew his political leanings, didn't care, but now he's wearing the t shirt you're reconsidering? Odd.

Happyjoe · 24/04/2026 23:30

Dealbreaker for me. Honestly, I just couldn't deal with that level of idiocy.

DuckyDolittle · 24/04/2026 23:30

I wouldn't be marrying someone who was vocally Reform as my values wouldn't match. I know a couple of people who are, and I'm tolerant and nice to them of course, but I wouldn't set up home with them.

If this has given you the ick, it might be that you've buried your feelings about his politics until now, but it's all bubbling up because of that photo. Was it specifically the hero worship of the Farage twat that did it? Or seeing him all infantilised in the sports kit? It's quite late in the day, but if your gut is giving you a strong message listen to it!

Yep!
Shouldn't be a shock..

So why is the costume a shock?

I would be leaving him for liking reform but you knew that anyway 🤷‍♀️

Ah, ok. I hadn't considered that possibility. So you think she's saying that she was ok with him being a kind of closet fascist but not an out-and-proud t-shirt wearing variety? I don't really understand how the closet version squares with the fact of him having been "very vocal" about his views, but I suppose he might have only been vocal to her and not in public.

Still struggling to get my head around it though. How could you want to build a life with someone if you're so ashamed of their views that you wouldn't want them aired in public? How on earth would your values be compatible?

ETA My post made sense before you edited yours @Happyjoe... now it makes no sense at all!😂

Well yes, I wondered that.
The t-shirt is the least of the problems.

He was obviously vocal enough his friends knew to get him the costume...

Assuming he didn't prepare it himself
