To just hate having a woman's body

Redgreenbluetwo · 21/04/2026 16:01

Maybe it's cos everything has happened at once today, but I just hate having a woman's body, and DH doesn't know how lucky he is.

Meant to be going on a spa day tomorrow with my friend. Obviously I got my period today. It fucking hurts, is a mess, and makes tomorrow more difficult. On top of that I have to go through the rigmarole of hair removal. I hate having dark hair and having to shave my armpits most days. Just such a pain in the arse. Now I have to do my bikini line later as well, and woe betide me if my legs are ever prickly. And my bra has been giving me gyp at work all day too.

Just bugger off with it all.

DH has to worry about none of those things. Sometimes I just hate it. I can't really remember what it was like to be a kid and not have the hassle of these things either but they really are just so bloody annoying!! And we have childbirth. And I have the menopause to look forward to. Men can be as hairy as they like, have no periods, no bras, no anything. Aaarggh!

Multiple orgasms can make up for hairiness every day of the week.

Notellinganyone · 21/04/2026 17:04

If you have dark hair and fair skin get a Lumea. It’s life changing and I wish I’d bought one years ago. Am Greek so have lots of dark hair on legs and a moustache and lots of pubes! I now only have to do the odd touch up and it’s made such a difference in the summer. You can get one and pay in instalments and send it back if you don’t like it via the Phillips website.

Nurseposter123 · 21/04/2026 17:09

Not unreasonable at all. It's a pain in the ass.

I once bled heavily overnight and through to the sheets and my DH declared 'there is no way you can bleed that much and be ok' ummmm I have every month for decades.

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 21/04/2026 17:16

I don't understand the problem- I take a shower or bath and it takes about 20 seconds to run a razor over any unwanted hair? I have the types of blades which have the shaving gel attached to them already. Periods are a nuisance, but I gave up on underwired bra years ago.

Edited

Sadly I don't get those on any day of the week.

OP, laser hair removal is a total game changer. It’s freedom and you deserve it.

The problem is that it takes time most days, and it costs money, and periods are a pain and take time and money to deal with too. And my boobs and back get sore despite those boobs not being particularly big. Just extra things to think about which sometimes I can't be arsed with.

get yourself to a laser clinic and get laser hair removal everywhere that you currently shave. Free yourself from the drudgery ! Changed my life !

Theextraordinaryisintheordinary · 21/04/2026 17:27

You can buy your own laser removal tool. However, I think you can sweat more. I understand what you’re saying. It’s awful having a spa day when you’re not feeling your best. Enjoy anyway.x

AllJoyAndNoFun · 21/04/2026 17:29

I know they don’t work for everyone but have you considered getting a mirena coil?. I had my first one put in after having DD and I’ve been completely period free for 14 years. Total game changer. Worth a shot?

FrostyPalms · 21/04/2026 17:30

Redgreenbluetwo · 21/04/2026 17:21

Sadly I don't get those on any day of the week.

That's a shame. That would definitely make you feel better about being a woman.

The rest of it, besides periods, is choices you are making. I have never done a single thing to my pubic hair and nothing terrible has happened. (Plus, I have multiple orgasms every time I have sex with my husband.)

Appreciate the.practical.advkce, thank you.

I have epilated before but I found it so unbelievably painful that I stopped. I don't know why but it was just impossible (and I have given birth without any intervention at all!).

I know I should man up and sort it but I think I might just need a moan today. Sometimes I don't care - two minutes extra in the shower is fine. But today when I know I have to do it for tomorrow and I have period pain and bloated boobs I just think that making my blinkin pubes pretty is not what I want to be doing with my life.

OP I also recommend the Philips IPL. Total game changer. I've got very pale skin and very coarse dark hair - it works a treat on coloring like ours. My mirena coil sorts the periods.

AuntChippy · 21/04/2026 17:37

I love being a woman and having a woman’s body. My husband’s is lovely - he’s stayed in great shape, but he’ll never know the joy of owning a beautiful female body. And we get to be pregnant and give birth and breast feed! Honestly, the best experiences of my life.

(IPL and a Mirena will sort you out.)

Butterme · 21/04/2026 17:38

Women’s bodies are incredible but how much easier would it be to have a man’s body.

I have just had such a painful, heavy period. It’s never just my stomach that hurts, it’s my legs, back, bum everything.
Then I was hiking and wore a pad (usually only wear tampons) and it rubbed my labia and cut it, now it hurts when I walk.

I sometimes struggle to go the gym when I’m on my period but look forward to getting straight back at it towards the end of it but now I’m going to have to wait a bit longer.

I also get spots when I’m due on my period and of course bloat, so look and feel like shit.

My back hurts from my big boobs.
I choose to remove body hair which I know I don’t have to but I prefer it and that’s a ballache.

I used to say to myself that at least once the menopause hits things will be a lot easier - then I came on MN and learnt that it is definitely not as straightforward as just your periods stopping!

poutlikeyoumeanit · 21/04/2026 17:39

I am disabled and have a chronic illness and MOAN AWAY OP!

Ive even lost most of my pubes and underarm hair due to fuck knows what reason..but im overjoyed about it!

All these things are shit. Especially when you have a nice day out planned and then excess maintenance is just not what you want to do right now!!!!!

And some say dont, but most women want to, its not for men, its not for society, its for us.

Get in the shower and have a poke about. It'll be done sooner than you think.

And then have a fab day tomorrow (with your tampons - or are you a fancy period swimsuit woman?)

Leavesandthings · 21/04/2026 17:40

Some things to consider to avoid shaving so much that aren't another method of hair removal -
Have some nice extremely floaty and light long trousers in your wardrobe for summer.
Ditto loose, cool short sleeved tops

Bikini bottoms that are shorts style.

Closely trimming rather than shaving bikini line means no stubble and less upkeep.
If you can relax a little around any hair being visible, that can be an easier option for bikini line.

The hairless ideal is body shaming bullshit making women slaves to time consuming bollocks, and feeling insecure about their natural body.

Have a good spa day!

Beeloux · 21/04/2026 17:42

Buy an epilator. Think I paid about £20 10 years ago and it’s still going strong.

I do my armpits and down below (have thick hair there and it comes in within a day of shaving. With the epilator it doesn’t grow back for at least 2 weeks and even then only little patches grow back

Mintchocs · 21/04/2026 17:42

Batties · 21/04/2026 16:12

Apart from your period, you don’t have to worry about those things either. You are making a choice.

But they bother her! They bother me too, body hair is annoying. Not because of social conditioning, because of stuff like feeling messier during a period, looking uneven, spoiling a tan. That kind of thing.

OP I feel you!! I'll be honest I went on the pill to avoid the period nonsense and that was lifechanging.

StrawberryShieldsForever · 21/04/2026 17:42

Sorry but most men have utterly disgusting bodies and do nothing to improve upon it. Especially as they age.

They just … go around with bald heads and flabby guts, unkempt clothing and we just let them do it.

We have high standards for ourselves, we need to pressure men to DO. BETTER.

I do appreciate what it's like. I just reached a point where I was so cheesed off with trying to keep the fuzz under control that I decided to take a practical approach and get rid of it once and for all. I mean, I knew I had problems when I had my legs waxed, and the look on the beautician's face said it all!
Maybe try the IPL in future?

I second this. Best thing I ever did. I've had it replaced a couple of times because I love it

Same! I love my body it is feminine, graceful and beautiful. It grew and gave birth to a child and fed her. I'd never want a man's body..

I have endometriosis and PCOS and periods are hellish but treatment helps and I still wouldn't want to be a man. I haven't worn a wired bra for years I only wear the soft crop top styles.

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 21/04/2026 17:59

Periods? Totally agree with you. Mine are excruciatingly painful and horrible the first 2 days.

but if it’s just about the inconvenience? There are sponge / spa tampons. I’ve used them at the end of my period (when I have a light flow) and they work very well.

edit: I also love being a woman. Except for period and neck pain / headaches due to having fairly large and heavy boobs! So annoying and painful!!

Calliopespa · 21/04/2026 18:05

Redgreenbluetwo · 21/04/2026 16:28

My pits need doing anyway. They always do. Especially now it's getting to summer again. Nothing to do with the spa day. After a couple of days the stubble is noticeable. I just don't like it and get self conscious.
True about my bikini line but I don't have swim shorts so I feel like I have to. I just don't like being overly hairy. I know it's a societal thing and I've been conditioned to think that etc but I do actually think it! I know that pubic hair is natural and I don't mind having it. It's just the fact that it requires taking care of all the time.

Increasing numbers of women don't do anything about body hair now.

I was talking to my friend's 15 year old the other day and she said lots of teens view it as really naff to shave.

But there’s a lot more easy removal options, and a full course of IPL is something you should get done young—I did and zero regrets.
