Now he’s acting like a spoilt baby
Saying he won’t go to a normal beach and sit on a towel on the sand and he will only go somewhere he has a sunbed, a proper one

so now I’m trying to find places with beach clubs that are reasonable for this summer

any ideas ? don’t want to go to south of France again

Turkey offer great value beach clubs with sunbeds & Cabanas. Many offer package deals which includes unlimited drinks and some food for around 6hrs use.

Kalkan (Turkey) have beach clubs in abundance. You could probably visit a different one every day on a two week holiday. Prices range from reasonable to absurd. Some are child free. They are lovely and we’ve always enjoyed them as we aren’t really ‘beach people!’. Kalkan is lovely is general. The transfer is long tho if you bus it. Definitely hire a private transfer, you get there in half the time with drinks and full control of a smart tv included.

Sounds like a nightmare, not perks.

Ah yes all that food, drink and ice cream. Absolutely terrifying 🙄

I’m in agreement with your husband. I can’t manage to lie on the sand and don’t want to as it’s uncomfortable and doesn’t have shade. Try the Lindos Blu Hotel Rhodes - It’s fab. Or for Italy The Grand Hotel Royal in Sorrento. Both have their own beach clubs with service.

Onelifeonly · 21/04/2026 06:34

Find a hotel that has a private beach. That way you've already paid for the sun loungers. Or just pay daily. They are everywhere! I hate towels on beaches too, I'm too fidgety to keep the sand from getting on it. But I prefer to be near the pool anyway. Actually I prefer more active holidays generally, but if 'sunbathing' is involved (I avoid that as I burn too easily) it's handy to have a nice pool nearby to cool down in. And the toilets are usually better.

SillyDoriswithaDangler · 21/04/2026 06:40

I’m too Australian for this shit! People actually pay to lay on a beach???

Chewbecca · 21/04/2026 09:31

The beach club set up in Forte Dei Marmi usually gives you a tent / pergola, several chairs as well as sunbeds, a locker and table as well as beautiful towels, water, nice bathrooms & service. And parking. It's so much more than sunbeds on the beach.

Foreverautumnagain · 21/04/2026 09:47

Sorry but I 'm with your husband on this. My bones started creaking and groaning in my 30's so a padded sunbed was so welcome! There are loads of beaches where these are provided at around €10 per person, per day. Surely the kids won't sit on them long enough to be worthwhile? Research the beach facilities first. He can take his own music and most bars are more than happy to serve you drinks!

I think you (and others) might not have been anywhere posh enough to know what OP is talking about!

I know they exist. I am just not sure why the OP is acting like they’re the only options between that and lying on the sand on a scabby towel.

I wouldn’t go to one though because it’s not a very authentic way to see the world, is it? Plus I fucking hate noise and a DJ on a beach is my worst nightmare. Let me listen to the sound of the sea!

He only likes the sea

he doesn't like pools
doesn't like the chemicals and germs

Better to avoid swimming in the sea at established resorts - it may be full of both. Pools at least have recirculated water that is strained, filtered and treated for bacteria/ parasites. Chemical (chlorine) and non-chemical (ozone) methods are used. If you are lucky it may well be aerated and mildly refrigerated as well. These are things you can find out

Pippick · 22/04/2026 12:38

I don't like swimming pools and much prefer to swim in the sea. An alternative is to book a sea front hotel.
This is what I do.
Comfortable sunbed with toilets etc. Walk 10 meters to swim in the sea then back to hotel pool. The benefit is not having sand everywhere which even on the comfiest beach bed is unavoidable.

Bluedenimdoglover · 22/04/2026 17:20

Sit him down. Tell him straight that you can't find what he wants at a reasonable price. If he wants the "perfect" holiday then he must sit with you while you are looking and make a choice. Why on earth are you taking it all on your shoulders?
