I work with a work colleague on a one to one basis however I think she’s lied to me about having 2 dogs (she does have 1) as well as to various other work colleagues.

Maybe one is a hush puppy?

This has got to be the best bad joke I’ve ever heard 🤣🤣🤣🤣 love it.

Dogmum74 · 18/04/2026 10:52

Why do you give a toss?

I remember a colleague once not believing I was married as I didn’t wear an engagement or wedding ring and never spoke about my DH.

Making me wonder if she took to social media to question whether my DH existed…

I'm afraid I also don't believe you're married, unless you start saying 'the hubster' every day 😊

My colleagues didn’t believe me that I had a child and unbeknownst to me were all talking about it behind my back.

When I found out I would intentionally be really cagey and only mention them at certain times and change the conversation if they brought them up.

I thought it was so funny as it was something that I could easily prove but I didn’t because I thought that they are the weird ones for assuming someone would lie - that would never cross my mind.

OonaStubbs · 18/04/2026 11:03

There was that Greek mythological dog that has two heads. Maybe she has one of those?

LlynTegid · 18/04/2026 11:12

If it is the only thing you think is lied about, then that's just sad. You should be concerned if it is part of a wider pattern and could affect your work.

The “however” in the OP has me howling

That’s nothing. I used to work with a woman who claimed to not own a cat but it turned out she had one as a child. In another life. Outrageous.

nobody owns a cat.

Thanks to all the earlier posters who have made me laugh 😆 This thread has the vibe of mumsnet from a decade ago and is really refreshing.

So much this!
Even down to the bemused, humourless posters not joining in!

I used to work with someone who lied about her dog being dead (had a photo of it, talked about it fondly etc)… turned out she’d had to re home it (for perfectly respectable reasons) but she was so embarrassed she pretended it was dead. 😵

I learned that day that people are weird about dogs!

To be honest they're the best ones!!!

pimplebum · 18/04/2026 12:04

Have you checked out her facebook and instagram for evidence of just one dog ?

i would hide in the bushes with a camera to get enough evidence then stage an intervention

nomas · 18/04/2026 12:06

Jokes aside it’s scary that there are colleagues like OP.

What, people who start threads on here which take the piss out of all the myriad pointless other threads on here?

No, people who are so invested and suspicious of their colleagues.

How would I know that? What are you on about?

REP22 · 18/04/2026 12:11

Maybe she owns one dog and the dog is the owner of the other dog.

Based on the info given, I think you're right. She's definitely lying.

The OP wasn't serious about the colleague and the dogs.
It's a joke thread.

How would everyone know? What’s the point of having a go at people who don’t know, like the pp did to me?

BruceAndNosh · 18/04/2026 12:29

Maybe she's claiming benefits for the second imaginary dog. Or it's an illegal immigrant like a Portuguese Water Dog or German Shepherd.
(what else makes MN froth?...)
