A work college is on a year sabbatical.

They are in jail for fraud but their boss is willing to take them back once out.

It’s strange as people ask about sally and it’s like yeah apparently she’s having a great holiday, is she posting any good photos on social media? No not that I’ve seen 😬😬

Can’t wait to hear her holiday stories once back 😂

And who was "Gladys" visiting?

'Fred' I imagine

These days they both wear crowns

I mean, that's not really juicy gossip is it. Just you being judgemental and presumptuous. Why on earth would she tell her neighbour that she drinks?! And how do you know it's her who drank it all?!

NDN is using OPS trash to hide her bottles. OP can judge freely. And she saw her at it again. Doubtful NDN is throwing secret vodka parties. Methinks thou dost protest too much.

My sister in law’s (DH’s sister) husband is in prison, and not actually working abroad as she has told us all.

Her son told my eldest daughter a few weeks ago - apparently he stole several thousand pounds from the company he worked for to fund a gambling addiction. DD told me and DH but we haven’t (and won’t say anything to anyone else)

A colleague at my company stole £30k and the police didn’t want to know. He was fired, and somehow managed to find another similar role without a reference.

Do they live in the Appalachian mountains?

Specifically the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia?
I was thinking the same thing.

Did your mum’s circle of friends and work colleagues not ask her how the baby was, what’s its name, etc? I presume she was still married to your dad at the time? What story did they give you—you can’t exactly hide a pregnancy from your children.

The baby wasn’t my mum’s, she is the father’s third wife. The father had the baby with his second wife while married to his first wife… I asked how they hid it, the baby’s mother went away for an extended stay while pregnant and came back post birth.

Thank you. Yeah my dad had o neg but DK about my mum. He used to give blood a lot. That's the only reason I know because he said his blood can donate to all others so it's good to donate it.

I DK my own blood type. I don't think it's common to know it in the UK unless you donate or seek out that info? I know I can't donate due to my weight sadly.

I have a feeling (and I may be wrong) that this is something tested in pregnancy as there can be some issue about a baby being a particular different blood group, something to do with being minus or positive.

Not necessarily gossip but just shows no matter the fame or money we can all be relatable…

My dad done the mot and car repairs for a well known famous couple who have kids and the car (Brand new just a couple of months old) was completely trashed inside. McDonald’s wrappers shoved down the sides of seats, carpets completely covered with trodden in food and crumbs. Mouldy food squished into the seats. The dash and drink holders were full of sticky spilled drinks and again food crumbs…Toys all over the floors which again had been left there to be trodden on for time as they were covered in food grime and dirt lol No I’m not hating either, like I said just shows we are relatable

Many years ago my brother very stupidly slept with his then girlfriend’s sister. They had had a falling out & the sister took advantage of the situation as she fancied my brother. Brother admitted to his gf . They didn’t split over this but did split eventually. They were young, 20ish, the sister was about 16.

The girlfriend met someone else who was introduced to her by her sister’s boyfriend. He also slept with the sister. Brother’s ex married him & they’re still together & sister is still with the same guy.

I know for a fact that a recently engaged man is still married to his first wife and is hoping to pull of a sneaky divorce before their wedding in 2027.

He has better hurry up. My divorce has taken 9mths or so and that’s with us both agreeing on stuff

if wedding is before 9mths. Hes screwed

JohnofWessex · 10/04/2026 20:41

This must have been about 1990.

Girl I worked with was about 17, her 'mother' wasnt her mother. Her dad had an affair with his mothers best friend, also married and she was the result.

'mother' and bio mum didnt fall out over it

My colleague knew as did the bio mums sons who were a similar age and they hammed it no end pretending to get romantic while the adults went bonkers .

JohnofWessex · 10/04/2026 20:50

As happens to us all I got press ganged (I think its really crimped in the Merch) as a stoker in the Merchant Navy. Worked alongside someone who looked like Dave Lister & sounded like Rab C Nesbit.

We were in the Missions to Seaman one night when the mate kicked off about the bosun. A soft spoken widowed Scot in his mid 60's

Turns out in true sailor style he had a girl in every port, now if you are on the old Queen Mary doing Southampton to New York thats one thing but our daily grind was something like Bristol - Clevedon - Penarth - Ilfracombe one day, Swansea Ilfracombe & Lundy the next etc, the joy of a Home Trade passenger ship.

They anew about each other, several were married and quite a few expected to marry him. Aged between late 20's and late 70's It had caused some trouble as crew going on there breaks could find a woman in each corner of the mess glaring at each other and Mr Bosun sitting in the middle of it all tucking into a boiled egg.

Why did a brand new car, a couple of months old, need an MOT?

I know :(
No easy access to contraception back then, and I guess the men wouldn't use condoms.

I recall watching a programme years ago set in wartime where a man comes home on leave. When they are getting ready for bed he got a long thin tin from a drawer, removed from it a huge rubber condom shaped thing and asked his wife if she's washed it since its last outing! If looked to be made of thick rubber, sensitivity not likely.

Well its not something i would ,do but its legsl in the UK
And there are some cultures ,where first cousin marriage is commen.

Cousin marriages is one of the reasons that some cultures in which it's common have an excessive number of hereditary diseases.

If your mum and stepdad are still married (you say she would divorce him), how is this woman your stepmum? Hopefully he's not married to the stepmum AND your mum!

I imagine:

stepdad = mum’s husband
stepmum = dad’s wife

Yes, I realised after I posted that it was DW2 and not DW3. But still….how did she manage to hide a pregnancy from the work colleagues that she was worried about knowing that the pregnancy was the result of an affair? How did she secretly adopt the baby out without colleagues ever knowing she was pregnant?

My 'birth story' is sort of similar in that my birth mother became pregnant as the result of an affair when her husband was in jail. She already had 3 children to her husband, girl aged 2 and boys approximately 5 and 7. All this according to my mum who met my birth mother and her children as part of the private adoption. Mum said she didn't know what my BM said to others and didn't know if her 2 sons knew she'd had a baby, it was never part of any conversation. I assume that IF anyone knew she was pregnant chances are they were either told the truth or that the baby (me) had died.

No one needed to know I'd been given up for adoption. It's not like it's public record. I assume if this woman in the PP's hid her pregnancy she just would have surrendered the baby at birth as my BM did so no one would have been the wiser. She could have told her coworkers that she'd had an emergency appendectomy or some other medical 'emergency'.

As far as hiding a pregnancy, I'm sure there was probably plenty of gossip in the office. Unless someone is quite a bit overweight, there's always the 'is she or isn't she' when a coworker gains a bit in the tummy.

A housemate from uni is still with the same boyfriend she had when I knew her. Really sweet guy. We’re now nearing 40. She’d put off having kids for ages when a few years ago he told her he really wanted kids and if she didn’t he’d like to move on and find someone who did. So she said ok let’s try for a baby.

Unbeknownst to him she continued to take the pill while “trying” for several years. Then pretended she couldn’t face IVF and cried it was probably all her fault because she’d had an eating disorder and he felt too bad to push it. So they’ve now given up. I feel so bad for him.

That's despicable. He deserves better & someone needs to tell him. Anonymous note.

I’m pretty sure this is illegal in some places - can't remember the term for it.
