Ok everybody, a quick lesson in blood groups:

Each of the four blood groups are made up of 2 of 3 possible characters. 0 (zero), which has no antigens, A (A antigens) and B (B antigen).

This gives us

  • blood group 0 (00)
  • blood group A (0A or AA)
  • blood group B (0B or BB)
  • blood group AB (AB)
You pass one of those two characters on to your child, as does their other parent.

00 + 00 =00
0A + 0A = 00, 0A or AA
0A + 0B = 00, 0A, 0B or AB
AA + BB = AA, BB or AB
00 + AA = 0A or AA or 00
00 + BB = 0B, BB or 00
00+ AB = 0A or 0B

It‘s possible to have a different blood group from one or both parents, but there are certain combinations that just aren’t possible, like you being blood group B and both parents being A, or being AB with a 0 parent.

Then you have the Rhesus Factor which gives you a + or - on your blood group. Most people are positive as - is recessive. But 2 - parents can’t produce a + child.

So blood groups is another way different parentage can come out.

Brilliantly explained. Thank you.

Many years ago, I was an HR manager. There was a pastoral side to my role as well as all the usual legal/recruitment/ etc stuff.

On one memorable morning a male employee asked to see me, very upset.

He had arrived home earlier than planned the previous evening to find his wife in bed with his mother. 😳

😱😱😱😱

My husband has just inherited enough for us to pay off our mortgage. It feels sly in a way keeping it quiet but it also feels like his information to share and not mine

Not sly at all to keep your personal finances private.

Not her mum! The wife before her!

Yes, I realised after I posted that it was DW2 and not DW3. But still….how did she manage to hide a pregnancy from the work colleagues that she was worried about knowing that the pregnancy was the result of an affair? How did she secretly adopt the baby out without colleagues ever knowing she was pregnant?

I knew 3 girls with very names beginning and ending with A was the middle one and the eldest had no idea her dad was not her biological dad

could be the same !

This family have two boys and one girl, so not the same.

That does remind me though of another family though (relative of a friend). The man married a woman who had a baby by a previous relationship. He took the baby on as his own and the child always thought him to be the biological father. They went on to have another two children. The marriage failed and the woman wanted child support for all three children. The man refused to pay for the eldest child because he wasn't his, so then the whole story was revealed. Not sure of the outcome, but it obviously must have been very traumatic for the eldest child.

Like @03cg73 mum and her famous pie, my friend’s legendary lasagna is M&S with extra cheese sauce and grated cheese.

I’m the only one who knows. I saw the empty packets hidden when we went round for lunch and I was helping her. We laugh when people ask for her recipe 😁

A couple of years ago I was hosting a couple of friends for New Year's Eve, pretty informal, a meal then managing to stay awake until midnight, we're all 70 plus! I saw in Tesco they had Finest Boeuf Bourguignon at £8, enough for 2, but they also had a 3 packs for £10 offer that seemed to include these. I took 3 packs, expecting them not to be in the offer, but they were so I served a couple of them on NYE, a few added bit, tiny mushrooms and onions, smoked bacon pieces and a bit more wine, very well received by the guests!

My DH’s company hired a British CEO from an Australian company—he and his family were wanting to move back to the UK. Despite having an assistant already in the role in the UK, he insisted on the company arranging a work permit for his Australian citizen “right hand man” from his previous company. This Australian assistant was a woman in her 30s who didn’t really have a role to do once she arrived in the UK, but was given a fab private office in the workplace.

My DH worked closely with the CEO, and they both realised that they lived in the same town—the CEO said that he was renting the penthouse of a newly refurbished luxury apartment block on the high street whilst his wife and kids were tying up loose ends back in Australia.

One Saturday morning my DH was taking our DS to a hair appointment at 9am, and they were hurriedly rushing down the pavement. DH and DS came face-to-face with the CEO and his assistant, nearly knocking them over. On the street where the penthouse was. At 9am on a Saturday. When the wife and kids were still abroad. An awkward conversation ensued, and DH hurried off to the hair appointment. #awkward

Working as a Fanny?!

FANY was First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, naturally they became known as Fannies!

DNA tests revealed nearly all 12 of my Mum's brothers and sisters had different fathers.
Mum finally told us why when she was in her 70s.
Turns out Nan was a sex worker in the 1940s/50s.
No idea who our grandad was.

honeylulu · 10/04/2026 12:31

@IdiotCat Twelve!?!? Your poor Nan.

The nan sounds a bit iconic tbh

Get her and Sheridan smith in a room, there's an itv show waiting to tell her story!

A friend worked for the Royal Family back in the day, and you wouldn't believe what they saw .....

I've heard from an ex colleague ( security)who worked for the royal family, that they have zero boundaries. He mentioned a woman who was a frequent visitor to Buckingham Palace, I'll try to remember her nick name.

It's legal to marry your cousin in the UK 😞

I know :(
No easy access to contraception back then, and I guess the men wouldn't use condoms.

I think there was a 13th baby that died at birth. Nan would have been late 40s/early 50s at the time.
We'll never know who our grandad was.
Growing up we were told he was a Welsh miner that Nan was married to (that's another unanswered story ..?!) but they lived apart for most of the marriage when she turned 'Pro'.

Ellybellyboo · 10/04/2026 12:39

My sister in law’s (DH’s sister) husband is in prison, and not actually working abroad as she has told us all.

Her son told my eldest daughter a few weeks ago - apparently he stole several thousand pounds from the company he worked for to fund a gambling addiction. DD told me and DH but we haven’t (and won’t say anything to anyone else)

My blood type was listed on some of my NHS paperwork. I think it’s from when the midwife took vials of blood when I first got pregnant.

Thank you. Yeah I wouldn't have that and I don't think I've ever needed blood products. Probably why idk.

How close are you to the bride/groom? They must know the setup, as they were the ones who extended 3 invitations.

It's somebody who works with DP so I don't know them well enough unfortunately 🙈

To be fair I haven’t looked but one of the boys who works with us said he’d seen her on it. I mean fair play she’s nearly 60 and not the bonniest so good on her. Said boy was a bit traumatised and can’t look at her 🤣🤣🤣

New Big Boss was bitching about Middle Boss on a call to Minion. Little did Big Boss know that Middle Boss and Minion are besties. Minion put the call on loudspeaker and Middle Boss heard the whole thing 😳
