Would you expect another evening meal after a 4pm pub roast?

If you had a pub roast dinner at 4pm; would you expect to have a dinner that evening?

Please settle an argument with my DH…

Highly unlikely. Maybe some cheese and biscuits or a bowl of cereal later in the evening.

Bishbashbush · 05/04/2026 19:10

Absolutely not. I’d probably have a wee snack before bed but definitely not a second dinner.

RawBloomers · 05/04/2026 19:11

I wouldn't. DH would need something. Not a full dinner, but more substantial than a snack.

Aligirlbear · 05/04/2026 19:11

I wouldn’t but I know my late DH or his son would - horses for courses - the answer depends very much on who is asking - no real right or wrong answer

HideousKinky · 05/04/2026 19:11

No

Mightneedencouraged · 05/04/2026 19:12

I wouldn't eat at 4pm (a weird English practice)

Jk987 · 05/04/2026 19:13

Those who say they want a toastie and fruit or something, why? And when? The roast was at 4 so not finished until 6pm and some are saying they’d eat again at 7 🤢

MummySleepDeprived · 05/04/2026 19:13

No but maybe some cheese and crackers or a chunky monkey (banana, peanut butter, chocolate chips and pecans) as night time snack.

Yes I know it's a Ben and Jerrys ice cream but we can't get that here...

Dinnerargument · 05/04/2026 19:13

Thanks all! I feel very much vindicated.

ohyesohyesoh · 05/04/2026 19:14

Of course not

Don't eat at 4 it's weird

Unless you're one of these in bed by 8pm people

PS5Gamer · 05/04/2026 19:15

Nope.

And yet the phrase 'boils my blood' is acceptable?!

More acceptable that 'boils my piss'.

Lampzade · 05/04/2026 19:16

Nope

Gentlydoesit2 · 05/04/2026 19:17

Cheese and biscuits if peckish

I can be a big eater and that's too much for me. We had a roast at home at half one and I'll have a sandwich later maybe, that's plenty. Two cooked meals in a day is greedy in my mind.

Doesn't it depend on the amount and type of food rather than whether a meal is cooked?

After all an omelette or some salmon and veg could be smaller and less calorific than a lot of the 'light' suggestions on this thread.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 05/04/2026 19:17

No. Snack maybe. Did you both have lunch?

ForeverTheOptomist · 05/04/2026 19:18

Goodness no.

Definitely not and I'm a greedy bugger! Maybe a snack before bed, cheese and crackers, which I'd make myself 😊 I'm the hangriest person I know and I still wouldn't expect another proper meal x

MissAmbrosia · 05/04/2026 19:23

No - just a snack maybe. Would be the same if we'd eaten a big lunch at `1pm - I wouldn't want another full meal in the evening, just a sandwich.

Steelworks · 05/04/2026 19:23

No. Maybe a bit of toast late on, but nothing more.

handsdownthebest · 05/04/2026 19:24

No. Maybe some dips and a bit of cheese but that’s it.

Bake · 05/04/2026 19:25

No. We had a roast at 2pm, dessert and chocolate after, some sausage rolls at 5pm at my sister's. Just home and we're having some toast. Not hungry enough for another meal.
