Would you expect another evening meal after a 4pm pub roast?

If you had a pub roast dinner at 4pm; would you expect to have a dinner that evening?

Please settle an argument with my DH…

No.

A pub roast is easily my daily calorie intake (if not more), so I would make sure I had no breakfast that day, never mind an evening meal after.

dnadiscoveryquery · 05/04/2026 18:57

No definitely not. Maybe some cereal (or biscuits!) later.

No of course not.

Cereal or tea and toast later if peckish.

This.

Butteredtoast55 · 05/04/2026 18:57

We had a full roast dinner around 2 o'clock and have been for a long walk and played board games since. Adult children are considering whether to have toast, cheese scones or a variety of snacky things (cheese twists, nuts, crackers, pitta chips etc). DH has said he could force down a hot cross bun. We have very healthy appetites but none of us would even contemplate another meal.

So you would only eat one meal all day?

MakeMineAMilkyTea · 05/04/2026 18:58

Nope, that would be a raid the fridge and get something yourself if your hungry

RightOnTheEdge · 05/04/2026 18:58

Definitely not.
Anyone who wants to can help themselves to a sandwich or cereal later on. No way I'd be cooking.

What no i mean he can stick some toast on if he is hungry, he basically had an early dinner didn't he?

BobbieTables · 05/04/2026 19:01

Not a proper meal but some kind of snack or sandwich makings around to have.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/04/2026 19:02

No, I'd just want soup or cheese and crackers.

Jamesblonde2 · 05/04/2026 19:02

No, absolutely not. Anyone who wants another meal after that is a gannet.

I’m the same, the three courses we had earlier is over my daily calories. I’ll be adjusting this weeks allowance to compensate for today.

Funnywonder · 05/04/2026 19:03

No chance. That’s why I hate eating early in the day because then I feel hungry later on, but not hungry enough for a meal. So I never know what to eat. I know there are plenty of things I could have, but I always feel really grumpy and am aggressively dismissive of all suggestions🤣

I will as it’s well over my calorie allowance for the day.

Forty85 · 05/04/2026 19:04

No that would be enough. My DH would maybe make a sandwhich or toast later on for himself.

popcornandpotatoes · 05/04/2026 19:05

No, but a snack. 7 year old DD is yet to understand the concept of a big lunch and always expects a dinner no matter what we've had in the day.

Yes, if it’s as calorific as a pub roast. Especially as I usually have a pub roast with a beer/glass of wine or two.

I don’t think it’s unusual to regulate your food intake to accommodate heavy restaurant meals and the like?

Today we’re at PILs’ for Easter lunch. We had so much food I am currently horizontal on the sofa recovering. Naturally I didn’t have breakfast and won’t be having dinner tonight.

IloveJonBonJovi · 05/04/2026 19:05

God no.

LBFseBrom · 05/04/2026 19:06

Not a full dinner but I'd have something mid evening. Maybe soup, cheese and biscuits, some fruit. A toasted sandwch? There are lots of nice, snacky things that fill a small gap and don't take much preparation.

Bristolandlazy · 05/04/2026 19:08

I can be a big eater and that's too much for me. We had a roast at home at half one and I'll have a sandwich later maybe, that's plenty. Two cooked meals in a day is greedy in my mind.

Jk987 · 05/04/2026 19:08

No nothing. This is why the country is fat.

aCatCalledFawkes · 05/04/2026 19:08

Absolutely not. As others have said, a snacky tea like hot cross buns or toast or sandwich. There no way though I would cook another meal.
My children know that they have to feed themselves tonight, there is chili in the fridge and lots of pasta//bread/tuna/pizza/jacket potatoes etc they can make themselves.

Yes, agree - I watch my calories and if it was more than my daily allowance, I'd make it my only meal of the day, regardless of when I'd eaten it.

mamaduckbone · 05/04/2026 19:09

No, but maybe a small snack at 8pm ish.
