If you had a pub roast dinner at 4pm; would you expect to have a dinner that evening?

Please settle an argument with my DH…

Yes, I’d be hungry again by 8pm
ETA, I wouldn’t need a full meal but definitely a sandwich or cheese on toast etc

OhcantthInkofaname · 06/04/2026 19:46

But soup and sandwich would be fine.

Iz20 · 06/04/2026 19:50

Not a cooked meal just like a sandwich or something quick yes most people would get hungry after 4pm meal it’s very early for dinner

Partypants83 · 06/04/2026 19:53

A little something later on would be great. Cheese and biscuits, toast, whatevers in the fridge....

No but I might want a bowl of cereal or toast later in the evening

Shinyandnew1 · 06/04/2026 19:55

I wouldn’t really go for a big meal at 4 as I would have had lunch at 1/2. I guess how hungry I’d be later depends on what else I’d eaten all day. I quite possibly would be hungry at 9!

Buffs · 06/04/2026 20:03

Yes.

Cherrytree86 · 06/04/2026 20:07

Yes, of course! Otherwise you would be missing a meal which is bad! A quick trip along to the chippy or something similar would sort out the issue

Pineapplewhip · 06/04/2026 20:08

No! Greedy goose!

Cherrytree86 · 06/04/2026 20:13

C152 · 06/04/2026 13:20

Yes, because 4pm is too early for dinner (and far too late for lunch!) and I'd be hungry again before bed.

@C152

why not just go to bed?

What do you think will happen if you don't eat anything else that day after the pub roast when you've already eaten more calories than you've burnt that day and/or you're not actually hungry?

Firecrest15 · 06/04/2026 20:17

No

Judecb · 06/04/2026 20:21

No.

KoalaKoKo · 06/04/2026 20:27

I had the same argument with my partner - we got home around 6.30pm - about 1.5 hours after we finished a big Sunday dinner and he said “what do you want for dinner”! I said that we'd had dinner earlier so now we would have a snack/lunch food like a sandwich and he had a proper moan and he ended up cooking a big dinner.

Claudiasfringebenefits · 06/04/2026 20:39

Definitely not a meal but I would like some supper

pinksheetss · 06/04/2026 20:40

No I don’t even expect one after a 12pm big roast

SemiRetiredLoveGoddeess · 06/04/2026 20:48

Maybe some kind of supper. If he was very hungry. Decent size cheese and salad sandwich.

@C152

why not just go to bed?

Because most people cant sleep if they are hungry.

Why go to bed hungry? It's not conducive to sleep.

Ladymeade · 06/04/2026 21:13

Hell no! A sandwich at the most late evening

MMAS · 06/04/2026 22:03

Yes, circa 8pm along the lines of a sandwich

Misty333 · 06/04/2026 22:32

No I couldn’t manage a meal maybe a light snack

Hohumitsreallyallthereis · 06/04/2026 23:56

I’d probably make myself a light snack later on but that’s because I can’t eat big helpings of food (I eat a lot that’s not weird food competitive thing vis a vis the other thread)!

And yet the phrase 'boils my blood' is acceptable?!

You're absolutely right. Everyone knows it's "boils my piss".
