£30 Easter budget

My friend just told me her and her husband spend £30 each on each other on Easter eggs.

She’d prefer a nicer one and some small bits and he’d prefer lots of mid sized ones so he had about 8 eggs.

AIBU to think this is insane?

They have no kids.

I don’t think it’s weird to buy each other an egg, but maybe slightly odd to set a budget. As if one person spending a few extra pounds could be a major issue. Plus, hotel chocolate eggs are £35!

Sounds a bit childish but not much else to think about I guess

This comment says far more about you than it does anyone else.

Elphamouche · 05/04/2026 18:17

We used to spend £50 each 😂

I do! I know what my adult children like!

So your kids and DH all buy you Easter eggs?

Aren’t you inundated with them?

Okay I accept IABU about this but I don’t know how to explain it.

I do love her dearly but she’s so over the top it just feels like everything has to be an event or an occasion and is very performative.

I asked her what she’s doing today and she said they’ve had mini egg pancakes for breakfast and are decorating Easter cookies later. I refuse to believe most normal adults without children are sat there decorating Easter themed cookies amongst piles of Easter eggs with their husband.

they live in the real world.

What the fuck does it matter? Seriously?

Having fun doesnt mean you don't live in the real world and I bet she's had far more fun then whatever dull shit you do on a day to day basis.

She deserves a better friend then you

What’s insane? £30 isn’t mad money to me. A cheap sandwich and coffees are easily this so what’s the big deal ?

LBFseBrom · 05/04/2026 19:12

They are just having a bit of childlike fun, there's nothing wrong with that. When they go back to work everything will be normal.

And so what if they’re inundated with them? Why (TF) does that matter?

AllaMova · 06/04/2026 10:50

I think it’s a lovely idea and it’s wise to set a budget. Lots of people seem to go over the top for Easter nowadays.

My DP and I buy each other an Easter egg every year, but we spend £10 each.
