£30 Easter budget

Okayfolks · 05/04/2026 11:43

My friend just told me her and her husband spend £30 each on each other on Easter eggs.

She’d prefer a nicer one and some small bits and he’d prefer lots of mid sized ones so he had about 8 eggs.

AIBU to think this is insane?

They have no kids.

One of my eggs was £40, it’s our money and we spend it accordingly. We still buy our adult children Easter eggs. Can I ask, re your friend, why do you care OP?

GardenCovent · 05/04/2026 12:07

YABU op, they can spend their money any way they see fit

It feels a bit show off and what adult needs ten eggs from their partner? That isn’t including any they’ll get from other people.

They always go over the top with spending insane amounts at Christmas too.

Why do you care so much?

Ovaryinatwist · 05/04/2026 12:09

At first I thought its a lot of chocolate/ expensive way to buy chocolate, £60 for the household!
I got DH a fancy £10 egg this year, so maybe some would say that is a lot to spend on chocolate. He didn't get me one, we laughed, he agreed I can eat half of it. No-one else buys us eggs, we don't buy any adults eggs.

Ncisdouble · 05/04/2026 12:09

I am forever surprised some people on here actually have friends. 😂

You’d hate me then OP! My husband and I have no children (but admittedly far too many pets) and we have zero budget when it comes to Easter, birthdays, Christmas or whenever the fuck else we want! We work hard, we love each other and enjoy spoiling each other and if that means he spends “insane amounts” on me whenever he feels like it, he’s going to crack on and do it!

He bought me three luxury Easter eggs, I bought him two and some new socks 😄

Bloody love being an adult and able to spend my money how I want, with zero care about what others like you think!

I think this is it. £60 on Easter eggs is insane for the two of them? Especially to have a pile of about 15 eggs just sat there? It seems so wasteful.

Wasteful? Only if they don’t eat them

namechange3651 · 05/04/2026 12:17

But surely they’ll eat it as and when they want to? It’s not like they’ll be wasted!

I spent £35 on one for my grandmother - she only really likes Hotel Chocolat dark chocolate and that’s how much it cost 🤷‍♀️ Everyone else (both parents, DS, my sister) all have a large egg around £10-15 and a couple of smaller bunnies/packs of various mini eggs.

Pineapplewaves · 05/04/2026 12:17

It’s their money, they can spend it how they like. What has it got to do with you? We’ve probably spent £20.00 per head plus DC have an Easter Lego set each plus the cost of the lovely roast we’re having later. It’s the last “chocolate event” until Christmas and our stash will last until then!

Is it wasteful if they eat them all?
My husband is a chocolate fiend. He’d demolish a ridiculous amount of Easter eggs given the chance.
plus before we had our little girl we would go all out on each other for special days as it made us feel better about our fertility issues. We wouldn’t be sad we would try an enjoy what we did have and treat each other

It's really not your business.

1kg of chocolate is 1kg of chocolate whether you have it stockpiled as eggs, a fancy single egg or a series of bars in the weekly shop.

Stop being the fun police and being so negative and look for a bit of joy in life.

Sartre · 05/04/2026 12:19

I think it’s nice. My DH got me a pack of mini eggs!

TheChosenTwo · 05/04/2026 12:21

I only buy Easter eggs for the dc, dh and I don’t buy each other anything (in our heads it’s for children, not saying it IS just for children obviously but we don’t do it for each other).
We have on the other hand spend hundreds on food for today, hosting our family so we have pushed the boat out on a case of really lovely wine, a beautiful big shoulder of lamb from the butchers and a plethora of home made desserts - that’s where we choose to spend our money, food and hosting, it brings us joy! Some people may say it’s madness when you can buy a joint of lamb from the supermarket for x but as adults we all spend our money how we choose.

StationJack · 05/04/2026 12:27

YABU

Edictfromno10 · 05/04/2026 12:28

I think having a clear expectation of the budget you both will spend and an idea of each others preferences is a good idea. Stops resentment and misunderstanding. Not sure why it is any of your business though.

MatronPomfrey · 05/04/2026 12:28

I bought DH an egg from Betty’s, it was £30. He only likes dark chocolate and he’s had all the usual dark options from the supermarket so many times.

Nobody needs 10 eggs, don't be ridiculous.
Sometimes it's nice to get 10 eggs though!
Seriously, why do you care how much chocolate other adults do or don't get?! If they can afford it, so what - it's just a nice bit of harmless fun.
It's hardly like they're buying each other crack. 🙄

Trusttheawesome · 05/04/2026 12:29

They don’t have kids, they’re adults who earn their own money. They want to enjoy the holidays just like people with kids do. What’s your problem? You sound miserable.
