Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

Are you going to try to prosecute the Supreme Court? Because they have stated that our biological sex is the defining factor in being male or female. How is “failure to uphold or recognise their chosen gender and pronouns” in anyway “abuse, disrespect or hatred” when it’s simply a statement of biological fact?

How would failure to use chosen pronouns be judged?

If someone changed their pronouns and people forget?

Or if someone invented new strange pronouns and people don't want to use them?

What about if its someone with a disability that struggles with change. Or has black and white thinking and can't understand/accept using a pronoun that doesn't match what they see?

What age would it become illegal to make mistakes?

Now you're talking even more nonsense. The Supreme Court judgment confirmed that single-sex spaces, services and sports are based on biological sex at birth, not any unprovable inner gender feelings. Why on earth should unchangeably male people be allowed access to female spaces just because they want it? Zack is transparently fishing for the ultra-lefties in Labour who are dissatisfied with their party's reaction to the Supreme Court judgment. However the mess the Greens are currently making when they actually hold power - hello Bristol Council - should mean they never get a chance to form a government which could actually make this scenario happen. All the movement legally is in the other direction.

Why would non binary people belong in the female single gender spaces that you want?

Bollocks. Sport is played with our physical bodies, not any inner gender identity feelings. Male bodies have physiological advantages which no female body can ever hope to match once those males have gone through puberty. Stop pandering to men's feelings at the expense of women's.

That makes the fact that Rainbows/GG allowed boys in even worse. How many girls have missed out on time in their own organisation because of this horrendous policy? We’ll never even know that as they don’t gather any relevant data. It’s quite sickening - every person who has enabled this situation should be ashamed of themselves.

It’s such a regressive ideology. We’ve always had gender non conforming people and that’s never been an issue for most people to accept. It’s only now that we’re all supposed to pander to outdated stereotypes and believe kids who don’t confirm need to be pumped full of drugs and have body parts removed.

Thank god I grew up in the 80s. I lived on a farm and spent my time with my brothers - climbing trees, riding quad bikes, making dens, playing with matchbox cars. I was a girl who liked doing boys things, not that I saw them as boys things, they were just things I enjoyed. But now my behaviour could be seen as a sure sign that I was born in the wrong body, although I’d like to think my parents wouldn’t have been batshit enough to think I was the wrong gender.

I know of a 12 year old girl who for at least the last couple of years has decided she’s gay, non binary, sometimes a boy, changed her name 3 times, and also identifies as a range of animals. Her mum just goes along with it all. Surely at some point parents have to point out that this is all delusional nonsense?

No. That is not the issue. We don't care if boys want to play with Barbies or girls want to climb trees. In fact, most of us encourage our children not to conform to rigid and regressive gender stereotypes.

We just don't think that boys liking Barbies means they are girls and girls climbing trees means they are boys. Trans activists aren't advocating for people to break down the boxes of gender conformity. They're literally reinforcing them by saying if you step out of your box you must step into the other. Or exist in the nebulous 'non binary' space with a foot in both boxes or no box at all.

They're saying that you can't be a boy who likes Barbies because only girls like Barbies so if you're a boy and you do, you are really a girl. I just don't see how that makes any sense to anyone.
