Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

The OP led from the emotional reaction that society must provide this child whatever the child wants.

But they never think female children should have what they want or need, which is spaces for female children. Even when spaces for the boys are available too.

The difference between 'wants' and 'needs' is something that lots of people struggle with.

'I need a foreign holiday' for example...

No. They don’t ever think of the female children’s needs. I think to them, those children don’t have needs or that those female children simply do not deserve to have their needs met if those female children reject a male child’s subjective reality or that in the hierarchy of children’s needs, the female child’s needs is not as important.

I don’t think it ever occurs to them to think about it from other perspectives at all. They are emotionally driven to centre this group’s needs above everyone else’s.

Yes, similar energy to that much discredited method (but ongoing) of ‘managing’ challenging behaviour from boys by sitting them next to well behaved girls.

No worries about the disruption, aggravation and harm to the girls’ education- just use them as unpaid labour. GG just see girls as a means to providing a supportive and affirming environment for confused boys.

It is quite mindblowing how people who probably view themselves as very fair minded and pro equality just can’t see what they are doing.

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

Girls DO NOT have a penis. BOYS do!

There sorted for you!

The Green Party position is that trans women are women, and should have access to female spaces alongside non-binary people.
Until we reach a position where all facilities are multi-gender, the Greens’ position would avoid trans people being so distressed that a six year old girl tries to cut her penis off.

The greens party position is detremental to women. A 6 year old boy, should be parented better and get the appropriate mental health care, the solution is not women and girls giving up their spaces.

The whole trans debate has revealed a very serious degree of misogyny in our society that people may not even be aware they are harbouring.

The degree to which women's rights, needs, dignity have been completely disregarded by those championing men in their spaces - has been quite the eye opener.

The Green Party position is detrimental to small boys with parents who lie to their son in a way that sets him up for an inevitable crisis at some point in the future.

This.

The Green Party are not able to say what a women is and think that some of them have penises - guess what - they don't. How can you take a party seriously when they cannot even define what a female is!
