Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

The attempt at manipulation via guilt that @JonesTown attempted in creating this thread is part of this. It might be something that people pass down unknowingly because so many activists do it and call it progressive, but it is part of the dynamic.

The act of coercing others to treat someone’s personal subjective reality as if it is established and proven material reality is based in part on supporting a narcissism dynamic. Ultimately that is where the accusations we have just in this thread but also in many other interactions lead back to once you start to trace it all and to strip away the emotional reasoning and manipulation.

I suppose it makes a change from clown fish and avocados.

@Ollldy78 I was what would now be referred to as a trans child way back when the only treatment thankfully, was watchful waiting. I spent years coming to terms with my abuse and trauma in therapy (which was a large part of watchful waiting) and that along with completing puberty cured me of what would now be called gender dysphoria but was correctly recognised as a type of body dismorphia.
I am still friends with the others from my group therapy and only 1 who still identifies as a transexual woman (how he refers to himself) and guess what he's as horrified as I am by the way gender identity ideology is being pushed onto children by groups like mermaids, stonewall etc and the way children from nursery upwards are being indoctrinated in it.
The belief that everyone has a gender identity is just that a belief with no grounding in fact. Even the term gender identity is an invented phrase created by a disgraced former Dr named John monay(sp) to justify his abuse of a set of twin boys. It was then expanded by a French self confessed pedophile named forcult to help explane why pedophilia should be excepted.
In the years since people like Judith butler have expanded further on the theory of gender identity and used it to create the current system of gender ideology that we now see being pushed by schools, teachers, college's, councils, activist groups and governments (looking at you Welsh and Scottish government's).
The insistence that everyone has an inate gender identity and that it should take precedent over biological reality in all circumstances, the demands of compelled speach in the form of wrong sexed pronouns and grammatically incorrect language along with the compelled acts of religious observance such as sharing your pronouns and most importantly how appostates (detransitioners) and those who refuse to comply are treated are all signs of the fact that gender identity ideology is nothing more than a quasi religious cult.
Most children suffer from body dismorphia during adolescence and will grow out of it if nobody affims their beliefs, for those children who are abuse survivors and/or are gay or autistic they will need therapy to come to terms with their asd, sexuality and/or abuse and then the body dismorphia usually resolves itself, with only a tiny minority persisting into adulthood.
It is only with affirmation therapy along with puberty blockers and parents and schools socially transitioning children do we see most going onto cross sex hormones and mutilating surgeries.
What we now have is a repeat of the explosion of anorexia we saw in the late 90s early 00s where it became a form of social contagion driven by online pro Anna groups and websites. Only this time its not only being driven by online groups but by schools and governments and as always when it comes to social contagions it's the girls and the vulnerable nd kids who are disproportionately affected.

You wondered where your dc got the idea from look to the school and what its teaching your dc.
Oh and yes its far too much to ask me to refer to a man or boy as female or to use wrong sexed pronouns for anyone as I will not lie or be a party to what I consider a dangerous and harmful belief system

Trans girls are boys and there's no such thing as a gendered institution.
There are however single sex groups and institutions like girl guides.
It is both legally required and correct to exclude boys regardless of how they identify from girls single sex groups

What a load of fucking rubbish. People can’t change sex. Deal with it. Men and boys are not having OUR spaces. It’s material reality and it’s the law. If you lie to your kids then they’re much more likely to reach for the plastic scissors (that never happened).

There's going to be quite the reckoning with these parents who have put their young children on this path, presumably with support of their immediate peer group.

With the SC ruling making the legalities quite clear, it's not going to be an easy row back. It's going to be an utter mess, with the kids caught in the middle.

I haven't worn a dress in about 7 years. A skirt maybe 3 years ago for a wedding. I'm not interested in hair and makeup. I played with lego mainly as a kid - no interest in dolls. I work in science.

I am just as worthy a woman and a mum as any other. As are my female colleagues who are predominantly quirky ND non conforming women (and an absolutley amazing bunch).

I actually feel really angry and downright offended at the implication that people like me should fit into a different gender category. What on earth has gone wrong that women are supposed to fit into such limited categories??

I agree, it's utterly tragic. Trans girls ARE girls and the decision to exclude them from guides (or any other gendered institution) is plain wrong.

The twist back to "gender" is very interesting.

Having read the thread, its a breath of fresh air and complete change from this type of discussion several years ago. People now speak out about the damage done to children. People say you cannot change sex and trans women are not women but men who feel more stereotypically feminine.

There is push back against the nonsense. Lots of it. People realise the ideology is stupid.

More to do, and too many children damaged, by pushing this nonsense and parents following the must affirm rubbish. Many are still in denial of the damage they have done themselves. Its abuse and many niw realise that.

Exactly. Things have thankfully changed. People realise that the whole transaction ideology was delutional. Live as you want but you can't change sex and should not expect to push women aside if you're a TIM.

I think the Supreme Court judgment has changed the context for discussion, especially with other changes since, such as the IOC now protecting female sport. Women's rights are no longer just a niche topic for debate, thank goodness.

In schools other young people became bored of the attention seeking and demands of 'trans'. Getting others in trouble for mis gendering ! Using their eyes and intelligence rather than simpering attention. Its so last year now, social contagion trend. Apart from the poor kids who drank in the ideology with pushy parents insisting everyone should ignore their own eyes and brains! Most kids eye roll now.

The publicising of this particular story has backfired quite significantly. Not just here, but on other platforms.

It was intended as a 'look what the evil TERFs have done' story (what, upholding the law?) But the vast majority have been rightly appalled that a parent would put their child in this position. Or suggested in any way that their body parts were a problem.

That is all assuming it's true, which a lot of us have our doubts about too.

I think what happens is that some posters fully believe the righteous rhetoric that they read in their self limited media selection. The OP seems to have posted with the intention of shaming others who see the massive red safeguarding flags where those who have the siloed thinking that female children have to accept a male child is female if he says he is.

It doesn’t work out well, because the majority of the UK believe that male people should not access female single sex provisions, even if those male people believe they are female. What now happens is the opposite.

The majority who five years ago were still trying to articulate their concerns, have seen and read enough to work out what they think. The highly emotive posts from the OP, were intended to be manipulative (maybe not from the OP’s perspective, but certainly from those who publicised this shocking reaction in the first place).

However, shining a bright beacon on the parental decisions that led to this small boy’s distress has a focusing effect. The OP led from the emotional reaction that society must provide this child whatever the child wants. That thinking is simply not the approach that people come to when they read widely and look at all angles of this situation. This child certainly has been let down, but it is not by the group of people who have said ‘no’ to him.

The child has been harmed by the people who demanded that he should have been given access to a group he should not have had access to.
