Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

And who put it into his head that he could change his sex/gender or that he was the opposite sex?

Six-year-olds don't happen upon these notions by themselves without adults guiding them to it.

Any adult that plants these seeds should be viewed in the same lens as we view all abusers and manipulators.

Also, it's incredibly manipulative to use this example to rail against the Girl Guides ban. As if such a case should nullify or change the Girl Guides stance, because women and girls rights should be predicated on how well boys and men respond to them.

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

Don't be ridiculous. There are specific reasons why girls and women need spaces apart from boys and men - safety, privacy, decency and the chance to speak and take a lead without the males muscling in and taking over. Removing all single-sex organisations would be detrimental to those who have flourished there.

TigTails · 29/03/2026 11:30

This didn’t happen so much it went back in time and unhappened things that really did happen! 😂😂😂

No, spaces for girls are important.
Unfortunately child abuse is a tragic reality, and the solution to that is not to remove girls' spaces.

Wouldn’t dealing with your young child’s obviously severe MH problems by access urgent help be a more sensible and humane solution than leaning into his delusions by taking him to a girls-only organisation?

As you say, Scouts is mixed sex. So why doesn't the scissor-wielder go there? What's stopping that solution?

Six year old girls don't have penises to attempt to cut off. HTH.

Why is a 6 year old even aware of these things?

Maybe he would decide to transition as an adult.
Maybe he's gay.
Maybe he's just a strange child.

But he shouldn't be aware of this stuff at age 6.

100% this. Why are the parents of a child barely primary school age allowing this and encouraging their son to believe he’s a girl?

No mention of the actual girls who have been excluded by reason of their faith or their trauma huh? Just one mentally ill boy.

The article is clear that this girl’s friends are all now boycotting Rainbows due to how she has been treated.

TMFF · 29/03/2026 11:33

Strange isn't it?

Of all the mixed sex clubs there are in just about every area, the parents chose to send their son to a girls club.

Using their child as a battering ram to push their own agenda, is not good parenting.

And as for the scissors story, that sounds pretty convenient too.

Hotandpointy · 29/03/2026 11:33

If there is any truth to this then those parents have a lot to answer for. Six year olds shouldn’t have their heads full of this nonsense and letting your son think he is a girl is abuse. Embrace who he is, let him dance around in dresses, grow his hair long, or whatever he wants to look and dress like but he’s still a boy. Boys can do most things girls can but having periods, giving birth and going to Brownies is just not going to happen.
My son loves his tutu and his mermaid toys but is also proud that he can have a wee standing up in the woods because he’s a boy. I’m kind of jealous but that’s life, pretending I could have a willy and be a boy too, would be completely bonkers.

The child should be taken into care, and the parents arrested for child abuse.

Yep, same as any other child whose parents exhibit Munchausens by Proxy. Six years old FFS.

Boy. He is a boy. A girl doesn't have a Penis to " cut off"

AnnaMagnani · 29/03/2026 11:34

This is just unbelievably bad parenting.

The parents apparently felt they 'had to be honest' and instead of saying 'let's try Badgers next time!' told a confused 6 yr old he couldn't go to Rainbows as he was trans.

Ffs, people who believe that a girl can have a penis and tell children that are the problem. And no, making rainbows or any single sex organisation, accessible to boys is not the answer to this non problem, being kind got us into this mess. Just follow the HC ruling and stop lying to your kids.

ainsleysanob · 29/03/2026 11:35

Hopefully this will be a catalyst for the little boys parents to get him the help he needs for his mental health problems. Let’s face it, his parents have made matters worse by supporting his little fairytale instead of being proper parents and getting him the help he needs. But nah, it’s more fashionable to stick a dress on the poor lad and change his name to Emily.
