Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

I'm also surprised as a member of the far right that the Labour Party happily takes my membership fees each year!

Six year olds do not boycott. It's the parents who are behind this if it's really happening - which it probably isn't.
Why can't girls have something just for them anyway? It's sad that anyone can think this way. Boys/men don't have to be included in EVERYTHING.

Spaces where people are undressed - single sex, mixed space and accessible. When swimming I use the mix showers as everyone showers with sports wear on. DD on her period wants to shower in the female only shower.

It is really sad to read. However, this child has a group of friends who are loyal and want to do out-of-school activities together. It should not be had to find one or more activities they enjoy and are eligible for. Encouraging a child to join a single sex group that they are likely to be ineligible for is really not fair on that child. How the parents and therapists address the gender issue is one thing, but far more simple is to ensure the child's social and recreational needs are met. This can clearly be achieved without girl guides.

I wanted to be a boy when I was 6 and that was down to the better life I saw boys having in reality and books. A couple of my friends also wanted to be boys and that was down to eg being treated as the son their father wanted.

Now we’re in our 60s, I shudder to think of us changing gender.
I certainly don’t feel like a man and don’t want to change gender, since I’ve discovered the power of giving birth, breast feeding and motherhood.

Almost all facilities ARE ‘multi gender’. (Except for the ones appropriated by trans activists).

No one cares what an individual’s self perception is. These facilities are (or should be) all single sex though as SEX is the determinant that matters for privacy and safety of women.

The Green Party are currently very confused about a lot of issues. Writing cheques that society isn’t prepared to cash by telling young boys they can be girls if they want is part of their problem.

Girl guiding is mixed gender. Olympic sports are mixed gender, because you can be any gender as long as you are female. What they are doing is moving back to being single sex.

You would be better at making your arguments if you were clear about what exactly you are arguing for.

NO. Real men stay out of women's single sex spaces voluntarily. The men who don't should be prosecuted.

Parents who think their son can be a girl should have their mental health checked first, then the possibility of them being abusive checked second. And prosecuted for that abuse.
