Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

There are all sorts of physical advantages that different people have in sport. Are we saying that tall girls should be banned from female teams because they are better than others.

I don’t see why a girl should be banned from playing a sport they love simply because they happen to have been assigned male at birth.

You play in the correct category for your chromosomes.

You'd best have a word with the IOC, then, as they seem to think that the differences between males and females necessitate single sex events.

The trans-identifying males can still play or compete in their sex category, by the way.

There was an interesting letter to The Guardian a few months ago where a women described how she regularly uses male toilets as the queues are shorter. She has done this for decades without issue.

I think we all need to be more understanding and see each other as individuals rather than simply members of a specific identity group.

What a cowardly non-answer.
You won’t give any more detail than ‘some woman in the Guardian who uses the men’s loos’ because you know full well that anything else exposes your position as being not ridiculous, but actively cruel and deeply misogynistic.
If you have any courage of your convictions, tell us why you think prisons, hospital wards, rape counselling sessions and domestic abuse shelters should be mixed securely. Tell us why female people don’t deserve any single sex spaces under any circumstances.
Go on, we’re all waiting with bated breath.

They identify as women though, and should be treated as such from the perspective of sport categorisation.

Trans women happen to have been assigned male at birth. That should not prevent them participating in the sport grouping that feels most appropriate to them.

Thankfully for the safety of women and girls, sports governing bodies disagree.

BlueSkiesAndSunshiiine · 29/03/2026 13:49

Are you a bot? You really sound like a bot.

loislovesstewie · 29/03/2026 13:46

Apart from the obvious, the safety of the woman, there are other reasons not to walk into the men's loos. Men too, believe it or not, are entitled to privacy when urinating. There are some men who would not want a lone woman wandering in, can you not think of any reason why? Some find urinating in public difficult for example. My adult son with ASD is one.
And men's loos often absolutely reek! I had to check the loos when I worked in a bar, and at the end of the night they were grim. Pity the poor cleaner!
And if women want privacy then that should be extended to men too.

I used to clean at a pub when I was a teenager.

I dreaded Saturday and Sunday mornings as the men's loos would be so absolutely disgusting.

I cannot even begin to describe the sights and smells I encountered regularly!

Absolute nonsense.

You don't play sport with your 'gender identity' you play sport with your sexed body.

Is your next move to suggest that people who 'identify' as disabled get to compete against actual paralympians?

They certainly do need female only spaces when they are getting changed.

A lot a primary school teachers would say otherwise, they change together for PE at that age.

OP, what is the difference between men and women?

If - and only if - the answer is ‘nothing’, then your point stands.

If, on the other hand, you refer to any/all of the biological advantages production of male levels of testosterone confers on a post-pubescent man, then single sex sports are the ONLY fair way to approach this issue.

This is really sad to read

just how do we move forward supporting children who are feeling confused who do believe they are born in the wrong body

I feel both sides have become so entrenched in their views that we have lost the ability to have sensible conversations

You certainly do them no favours if the answer is to just agree with them, affirm and over time, organise for them to take life-altering drugs and have irreversible surgeries.

His parents appear to be people without a basic grasp of reality.

His parents allowed him, and encouraged him, to think he could actually change sex and be a little girl.

His parents set this boy up to suffer later.

His parents then drove this boy to a point where, if their story is to be believed, he got so distressed because of the lies he'd been told by them that when reality collided with the delusional little bubble they'd constructed for him he wanted to cut his penis off.

What his parents should have been doing is explaining to him that he could wear what he wants and play with what he wants and that for a lot of things in life it doesn't matter if someone is a boy or a girl. But that sometimes it really matters what sex you ACTUALLY are, and because he's a boy he's not allowed into spaces and events that are for girls only.

People who understand reality are not the extremists in this argument. If anyone is extremist it's the boys deluded parents.

Would love to be a fly on the wall when he reaches puberty and his biological body takes over. When he realises what his penis is for and how much fun he can have with it he may well be horrified that his parents mislead him. My son would disown us if we had been so coercive.
He was pretty upset that we didn’t encourage him to learn to ride a bike. At the time he had been diagnosed with a childhood form of epilepsy and along with rock climbing was on the prohibited list of activities. I can’t imagine his reaction if we’d convinced him he was a girl.

Nope. Women aren't support humans for unhappy men.
Women fought hard for access to certain sports and shouldn't have to hand them over to mediocre male sportsmen cheating their way into women's sport.
Nor should women and girls be required to undress in changing rooms etc to satisfy the demands of men. Women are over 50% of the population and the law is clear - we're entitled to privacy, dignity and safety from them.

Anyway - back to your subject. I hope by now all the parents on here have given you an insight into how abusive it is to pretend to little children that they're the opposite sex.

I posted this upthread but suspect you missed it - it might give you an insight into the psychological damage these inappropriate adult demands are doing to young children:

So, fuck what that means to all the actual women?

Why should Dave get to compete with the sex he feels most appropriate? He can call himself Davina all day long but it is not appropriate for a man to compete in women's sport.

Why does the wants and feelings of a man trump all the women's actual rights?

The IOC have caved into pressure from Trump and the far-right gender critical activists.

Those who are campaigning against dignity for trans women should be asking themselves if they’re really happy to be on the same side as Trump 🙄

No child thinks they’re “born in the wrong body” until an adult puts the idea in their heads.

we should let children have any toys, hobbies, haircuts and clothes they like. We let them go through a normal puberty and make no issue if they are same sex attracted. That would resolve 90% of cases.

have you ever read a description of a “trans child” which wasn’t purely about stereotypes?

I’m not campaigning against trans identifying males. I am campaigning for biological women.

why does my consent not matter?

why do my feelings not matter?

I am also not in any way a trump supporter.

The extraordinary thing is not that Trump believes humans can't change sex.

The extraordinary thing is that some people on the left think they can.

I'm perfectly content to be on the side of reality, not delusion. You should try it.

That is an interesting letter. I suspect it was read with relief by all the trans identifying men who claimed that the men's was so dangerous. Now they know, what they always knew, they can safely use the blokes with the other men.

Their parents tell them the truth. That they aren't born in the wrong body, they can't change sex and they never will be able to. That's how. Then they support them to come to terms with reality.

On this particular issue, yes I am. As he's not wrong, for once.

Also, the IOC didn't cave into him, Kirsty Coventry just did the right thing.

Men, whether they wear a frock or not, cam compete with other men. No one is banned from sports, just from stealing places from women. And that's great.

Those who campaign against women having rights should be ashamed of themselves.
