Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

No way would I send my daughter to Brownies or Guides now, will just be full of extremists who think it’s ok to weaponise children and to call struggling parents abusers. Vile.

Is it really a struggle to explain to children that girls don't have penises? Or that some spaces are just for boys or just for girls?

There was an interesting letter to The Guardian a few months ago where a women described how she regularly uses male toilets as the queues are shorter. She has done this for decades without issue.

I think we all need to be more understanding and see each other as individuals rather than simply members of a specific identity group.

Because of trauma I don’t want a man in a single sex space with me.

I do not consent to that.

does my consent mean nothing?

i can tell a trans identifying male. His being in that space will traumatise me.

why do my feelings not matter?

You have no evidence the parents are mentally ill
or abusive.

The way children are being weaponised by extremists like you is frankly disgusting.

Surely the ‘weaponisation’ was done by whoever wrote and published the article?

As a leader this is not true. It will be exactly the same as it has always been. I’ve been a leader for 25 years and never had a trans member attend or enquire. I suspect most units don’t either. They haven’t published numbers affected but I suspect it is tiny.

His parents appear to be people without a basic grasp of reality.

His parents allowed him, and encouraged him, to think he could actually change sex and be a little girl.

His parents set this boy up to suffer later.

His parents then drove this boy to a point where, if their story is to be believed, he got so distressed because of the lies he'd been told by them that when reality collided with the delusional little bubble they'd constructed for him he wanted to cut his penis off.

What his parents should have been doing is explaining to him that he could wear what he wants and play with what he wants and that for a lot of things in life it doesn't matter if someone is a boy or a girl. But that sometimes it really matters what sex you ACTUALLY are, and because he's a boy he's not allowed into spaces and events that are for girls only.

People who understand reality are not the extremists in this argument. If anyone is extremist it's the boys deluded parents.

Just because one woman is happy, doesn’t mean all are.

When I was 18 and pissed I would barge into the blokes on a night out as I was desperate for a wee. Security would rightly tell me off but I didn’t care at the time - I was young and drunk. Besides, the blokes were all outside pissing up the wall.

Im now nearly 50 and a professional, not just someone who had no experience of the world. My DD is gay - I’m worried that she will define herself as trans as it seems “weird” to be attracted to the same sex (especially women) in her age group.

I haven't RTFT but IF this is true (big if) then the parents need to be carefully investigated.

Who told this poor child that cutting off his penis would make him a girl? This is a safeguarding nightmare and the child needs some serious psychological help,

Please God, tell me you are joking and that you do understand why this is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!

Don’t make people explain something so basic.

6 year olds don't need female only spaces. Absolutely appalling and unnecessary that this young child was excluded. It is going too far. Maybe if we got rid of these rigid gender boxes children wouldn't feel they need to be another gender to fit in the box.

The Girl Guides can change to become unisex any time they like.

What they can't do is advertise themselves as single sex, yet allow boys through the back door on the grounds of their 'gender'.

In my daughter’s school’s basketball team there was one girl who was bigger and faster than all the others in the mixed team. She basically ran up and down the court scoring and no-one got a look in. I have no idea how the rest of the team felt but it looked bad to me. I took that as an error in coaching rather than the fault of the girl who was just playing a game to the best of her ability.

There are all sorts of physical advantages that different people have in sport. Are we saying that tall girls should be banned from female teams because they are better than others.

I don’t see why a girl should be banned from playing a sport they love simply because they happen to have been assigned male at birth.

You think it's all about size? Males have bigger hearts, lungs, muscle mass. Males competing against females is not a fair competition, ever.

They’re not female though. They’re male. That’s why they should compete in the team that matches their sex.

No one's being banned from anything, they just need to play in the right category,

In the interests of fair sport, we don't just let people 'identify' into categories they don't belong to.

We don't let senior athletes compete in junior leagues. We don't let able bodied people compete in the Paralympic's.

We don't let males compete as females. This is not difficult to understand.

women have said no, get over it. Fuck off with your “be kind” nonsense - women and girls are not support humans or validation tools or props for delusional males, and we’re taking our stuff back. And I don’t care if that makes some of the males that stole it from us sad. Fuck off.

Apart from the obvious, the safety of the woman, there are other reasons not to walk into the men's loos. Men too, believe it or not, are entitled to privacy when urinating. There are some men who would not want a lone woman wandering in, can you not think of any reason why? Some find urinating in public difficult for example. My adult son with ASD is one.
And men's loos often absolutely reek! I had to check the loos when I worked in a bar, and at the end of the night they were grim. Pity the poor cleaner!
And if women want privacy then that should be extended to men too.

CalmTheFuckDownMargaret · 29/03/2026 13:47

Then the boy supposedly trying to castrate himself aged six needs mental health treatment. I think boys of all ages and men need to be told two clear things: you cannot change your sex; wanting to change your sex does not grant you access to all spaces and opportunities for girls and women. However hard you scream, cry or threaten.

No one is assigned at birth. It's observed and noted.

They identify as women though, and should be treated as such from the perspective of sport categorisation.

Trans women happen to have been assigned male at birth. That should not prevent them participating in the sport grouping that feels most appropriate to them.
