Six year old trans girl ‘tries to cut off her penis’ after Guide ban

Quite a disturbing article in this morning’s Observer regarding the impact of the Guides’ ban on trans girls following the Supreme Court ruling.

It reports on the experience of one six year old trans girl named Emily after hearing she could no longer attend Rainbows:

Emily’s parents decided to be honest with their daughter about the situation, and explained that she was no longer able to take part in Rainbows because she was trans. A few hours later Curt said they found her “sobbing in her room” and were “shocked” to find her holding a pair of plastic scissors to her penis.

AIBU to find this a distressing consequence of campaign by anti-trans activists or is it a natural result of allowing such young children to change their gender identity?

Even Cass says the likes of you are weaponising children. It’s dreadful and you should be ashamed.

What have I done? I'm giving opinions on a thread. You're being ridiculous.

You have no evidence the parents are mentally ill
or abusive.

The way children are being weaponised by extremists like you is frankly disgusting.

“Extremists” aka people who know that humans cannot ever change sex.

blacksax · 29/03/2026 13:02

No child that young can have any real understanding of the concept of what it is to be transgender.

Starbright102 · 29/03/2026 13:00

I seriously doubt there is a mass exodus of members. I will now be happy for my daughter to sign up to Rainbows when the time comes and il consider volunteering. I wouldnt have done either previously

No way would I send my daughter to Brownies or Guides now, will just be full of extremists who think it’s ok to weaponise children and to call struggling parents abusers. Vile.

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

Wouldn't this be more sensible than making six year old girls so distressed that they attempt to cut off their penis?

@JonesTown

so basically girls can’t have a same sex group because a boy wants to cut of their geneitalia?

so yet again girls suffer?

DrowningNotWaveing · 29/03/2026 13:03

Purleeeeese, how many boys are in the Guides!!

In my daughter’s school’s basketball team there was one girl who was bigger and faster than all the others in the mixed team. She basically ran up and down the court scoring and no-one got a look in. I have no idea how the rest of the team felt but it looked bad to me. I took that as an error in coaching rather than the fault of the girl who was just playing a game to the best of her ability.

I’d have taken my daughter off that team as there is no pride in cheating. I also wouldn’t have allowed my daughter to play against blokes

When I was eight, my auntie had her fourth child, followed by a hysterectomy, so she needed to stay in hospital for a while, instead of coming straight home. Not surprisingly she didn't mention her hysterectomy to me ~ but she could have told me she was staying in for a rest. I'd certainly have believed that. But she told me that you have to be really careful with new babies ~ if they get too much sunshine they melt and die. I believed her. I was little and of course I believed her; she was my auntie. When a neighbour's baby was outside I'd be turning the pram away from the sun, fiddling with the sunshades, crying that I was saving the baby from melting.

Children believe what their trusted adults tell them. This boy's trusted adults told him he was really a girl. He believes he's a girl. I am sad for him.

His parents should be prosecuted for child abuse.

AliceNotInChains · 29/03/2026 13:05

@BoredZelda sorry I quoted the wrong post, I meant to quote the person who said there were two trans players in the team

You have no evidence for this. Cass has said some children are trans.

With this lot, every accusation is a confession.

Sirzy · 29/03/2026 13:09

Some children may be trans. But that doesn’t mean a 6 year old is in any way able to know that and parents shouldn’t be going down that route when they are so young.

We shouldn't be encouraging these things in six year olds. They need to be able to fully understand what they are saying before the trans route is even considered.

The extremists are grown, supposedly functioning adults affirming the lie that you can be the opposite sex, especially to children. They are dangerous and your username is an apt one.

The girl clearly wants to identify as female, and I think it’s only right that we respect her wishes in how we refer to her.

Some days my six year old wanted to be a bulldozer, and other days a fireman. I didn't let him drink diesel or run in to burning buildings.

Well hopefully we balance each other out and the leavers are all replaced with newcomer. The 'extremest' title varies depending on which side your on.

MyrtleLion · 29/03/2026 13:11

I am disgusted that the Observer has published this. It used to be a haven for sex-realists and now it's using cognitive dissonant phrases like "her penis". Girls don't have penises. Boys do.

Angelica was a bossy boots though, she annoyed me constantly trying to boss the others around

I know! I can still hear Angelica saying, “you dumb babies!” I had a cousin with very similar traits. She was very bossy and like Angelica would try to engineer situations where she could then go to the adults, tell tales and get others into trouble.

Seriously? No 6 year old of mine would ever have known that they could ‘identify’ as anything. What a load of nonsense.

What's more, think of all the girls who can now join Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers because they know they will be safe from boys and men instead of having to share facilities with them and lie about their sex.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 29/03/2026 13:17

Don’t be absurd @JonesTown

That notion doesn’t deserve anything like respect.

ProfMummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 29/03/2026 13:18

Zoe Williams has argued that a sensible solution to all of this would be to make the Brownies mixed gender like the Scouts.

What's the point of that when a mixed sex group already exists? If you make guiding mixed sex then what you're doing is opening it up to boys who are not confused about what sex they are, but who may not be into whatever activities scouts have on offer.

The 'trans girls' won't get that validation of being a girl, because it will be a mixed sex space. And girls lose their single sex space and all the positives they get from having that. The whole dynamic changes, the boys will dominate and take over, as the girls make themselves smaller.

Typical TRAs, if I can't have it then I'll destroy it, and then no one will.

Cass disagrees

She added: "There are a tiny number of people who will never be comfortable with their biological sex, with the gender associated with their biological sex.
"And for them, a medical pathway is the only way they're going to live their life comfortably. And we don't understand why that is, but we have to try and help those people thrive as much as the young people who are going to grow out of this."

And re the appalling weaponising of children;-

Asked if children had been let down by an adult-led debate, Cass said "absolutely", adding they "were also caught up in all the issues about single-sex spaces and sports and safe areas for women which were actually not to do with the children but they were somehow part of a football within it".
"That's a real shame that children have been weaponised."

JLou08 · 29/03/2026 13:20

6 year olds don't need female only spaces. Absolutely appalling and unnecessary that this young child was excluded. It is going too far. Maybe if we got rid of these rigid gender boxes children wouldn't feel they need to be another gender to fit in the box.

JonesTown · 29/03/2026 13:21

DrBlackbird · 29/03/2026 12:40

I’m interested to hear your thoughts on if you really mean all spaces being made mixed gender. Are you including prisons? Domestic refuges? Rape relief counselling sessions? Rape testing? Hospital wards?

Are there really no female spaces that you could think are and ought to remain single sex for good reason?

And if someone like the trans woman convicted double rapist Isla Bryson is legally accepted as a woman, he ought to then get access to all female spaces?

There was an interesting letter to The Guardian a few months ago where a women described how she regularly uses male toilets as the queues are shorter. She has done this for decades without issue.

I think we all need to be more understanding and see each other as individuals rather than simply members of a specific identity group.
