Interested in opinions. Please be patient while image is in review. I’m 52, is this inappropriate, will I end up looking like a witch 😊?

It looks lovely keep it if you're happy . I chopped mine off last year and instantly regretted it , so I'm just going to let it grow back.

hoorayandupsherises · 27/03/2026 16:16

Your hair is beautiful

AlbieJiggered · 27/03/2026 16:16

Get a tea cosy perm.

Arlanymor · 27/03/2026 16:16

Jane Seymour says otherwise! If you like it, keep it!

With a lilac rinse.

I'm 54 and mine is about that length and grey. No plans for the chop just yet. If ever..

BitOutOfPractice · 27/03/2026 16:18

Who says it’s inappropriate?

pinkyredrose · 27/03/2026 16:18

How could a haircut be 'inappropriate'! If you like it long then keep it!

MyThreeWords · 27/03/2026 16:19

It's not inappropriate at all! If you like it, keep it. If you want the lightness and freedom of not having to fret about it, chop it off as short as ever you like.

Pistachiocake · 27/03/2026 16:20

I don't really get the age thing. OK, I'm not at menopause yet and I know some people say it changes hair, but I know older women who have hair in better condition than some 20 year olds who dye/bleach/heat treat and mess about with it. Like with clothes, people used to talk about cut off ages for things, but I think every woman should just go with what she wants, so if you like it, keep it.

Easterbunnyishotandcross · 27/03/2026 16:22

A few years ago I pondered over a hard hairband.. Teen dd told me sternly I could wear anything i wanted..
With that the assertive nod given I bought one.

Thank you. Need to get a few foils in the top as I’ve been growing out various colours & wanted to see how the natural brown/grey looks before forging ahead.

With a lilac rinse.

Lilac tones on grey hair look great - if done expertly!

MayaPinion · 27/03/2026 16:27

I’m 57 and my hair is about that length. It’s thick and glossy and healthy and I get compliments on it all the time, so why would I change it? You have beautiful hair so keep it as long as it makes you happy.

FlatErica · 27/03/2026 16:27

It looks great! Anyway, what’s wrong with looking like a witch?!

Easterbunnyishotandcross · 27/03/2026 16:27

The purple shampoos really help!!

Crazycatlady75 · 27/03/2026 16:27

You have lovely hair! I'm 50 and mine is about your length and curly. It's taken me 50 years to work out how to style my curls so I'm not chopping it off anytime soon!

Blueunicornthistle · 27/03/2026 16:28

There is nothing at all inappropriate about having long hair in your fifties! Or at any age.

However, the lovely thing about hair is that it grows back šŸ™‚. There’s nothing wrong with playing about with a new style of that’s what you fancy. Ask your hairdresser what they would recommend.

I just don’t want to walk round looking like a deluded idiot. I find it hard to know what’s ok! I know I’m well past crop tops (more to do with physical changes, as some my age can def still rock it). But the more subtle things, I feel like I’m guessing.

It looks lovely! I'm the same age as you and have similar length hair. I find I need to make more of an effort to keep it well conditioned and coloured, but as long as it's in good condition, I don't think there's an age limit on long hair.

Ahsheeit · 27/03/2026 16:31

The only reason that I cut off my very long, curly hair is because I couldn't be arsed dealing with it anymore, otherwise it would have stayed. I'm 56. Have your hair how you want it, not how you think you should have it.

MeganM3 · 27/03/2026 16:31

I could imagine it might style and sit better 3 or 4 inches shorter, and feel a bit more trendy, as shorter hair is having a moment. But looks lovely and thick. The colour is nice too.
Age shouldn’t come into it.
It definitely doesn’t look witchy!! But I’m all for witches anyway so even if it did, who cares. Enjoy your beautiful hair. It probably grows quickly, does it?

Bombombomtralala · 27/03/2026 16:31

They should print some guidelines for women (because it’s only ever women) aging like they do for babies milestones.

What to expect as you’re aging.

Age 35: no more short dresses.
Age 40: stop expecting to be visible.
Age 45: no more sex.
Age 50: cut hair.
Age 55: Give up on life completely.

Thank you! I chopped about 4 inches off it a few weeks ago as I was running out of arm length to straighten it 😁

Forgot to add… do whatever the fuck you want. You have beautiful hair, cut it if you want, keep it if you want.
