Interested in opinions. Please be patient while image is in review. I’m 52, is this inappropriate, will I end up looking like a witch 😊?

You have beautiful hair,I'm 58 and currently have just below shoulder length hair which I'm growing...

Skippydoodle · 27/03/2026 16:48

Thank you all. Keeping my tresses! Will get a few white foils through the top in a couple of weeks and a trim. God, I do hate going to the hairdresser though. I leave it between 1& 3 years per visit šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

Have your hair whatever length you like - yours looks great! I'm mid-60s and have collarbone length silver hair, it's in the best condition it's ever been. Purple shampoo (from an extensive collection of ones I buy on my travels, love the French 'Age Sublime Blanc Chic' just for the name) and a drop of argan oil before drying keep it shiny. I have it trimmed about 3x a year to stop the ends looking straggly and never have a bad hair day!

Toooldforlonghair · 27/03/2026 16:48

Look at my username!
If you want to keep your hair do so and tell anyone who says otherwise to do one. I had Alopecia Aerater and wore a hairpiece for over 5 years. It caused me untold misery. Then during lockdown my hair suddenly started growing again and kept on doing so. No one knows why all or whether it will stay but meanwhile I'm bloody well going to enjoy it. It's waist length and thicker than ever. Long may it last.

By the way I'm in my 60s.

Crinkle77 · 27/03/2026 16:52

I'm 48 and have long hair similar length to yours. I am lucky and have hardly any grey si can get away with it.

MidnightMeltdown · 27/03/2026 16:53

Looks nice and thick. I think older women tend to cut their hair short due to thinning.

LisaVanderpumpy · 27/03/2026 16:53

That way of thinking, cut your hair off at such and such age is so old fashioned and dated now

travailtotravel · 27/03/2026 16:54

Only age appropriate if you wear it in a severe bun at the back of your head.

Seriously though, I chopped becuase I was getting thinning hair (thank you for nothing peri) and while it suited me, I am now happily growing it back now I am on a better vitamin regimen. Growing it out again after having it short is a ballache.

Only chop if you want to, and/or you're thinning.

It looks fab.

It is in great condition and so thick, my hair has changed condition as I have aged I don't know if I need to stop dying it or not anyway I would love hair like yours op.

What a lovely reply - thank you. I always dyed mine, darker brown, chestnut, mahogany, burgundy etc, but it just felt harsh against my changing skin tone. I’ve been growing out the dark dye for a fair few years. The blonde streaks are very drying, and my hair always felt smoother with the darker dyes.

Your hair is lovely and thick OP! The only reason I chopped mine was because it had thinned and become almost transparent. If I had your hair I'd keep it long forever!

I’m so sorry your hair has thinned. I lost 50% of my hair 5 years ago, and as the rest was so fine, I resembled a Brillo pad. At that time I also had to go much shorter. Is there a medical reason behind your thinning, have you seen a tricologist?

MarjorieWestriding · 27/03/2026 17:02

Have you seen Sharron Davies's hair? She's 63 and her hair is gorgeous.

DavesGirl90 · 27/03/2026 17:04

Absolutely gorgeous hair. The reason older women cut their hair is because it gets thin. Yours isn’t thin at all so not sure why you’d chop it!

I haven't seen a specialist actually, the first shed was after DC, then I had another round of shedding a few years ago and it just never grew back.

Pinana · 27/03/2026 17:05

I'm 50 and mine is longer than that! I don't care if anyone thinks it's 'too long', I think it's a length that suits me (I've had many different lengths!) and I like it long enough to tie back/plait when I'm teaching or running.

Your hair is beautiful, enjoy it. X

Anothernewnamegame101 · 27/03/2026 17:08

I think it looks beautiful. Keep it!

ruethewhirl · 27/03/2026 17:14

I'm late fifties and my hair would still be that long if I hadn't got bored with the styling/upkeep involved. It's still past my shoulders and always will be (despite a friend of mine regularly opining that 'no woman over 40' should have hair longer than shoulder length šŸ™„), I look horrible with it short.

No such thing as too old for long hair! OP it looks lovely.

booksnbaking · 27/03/2026 17:19

OP, I have massive hair envy at your lovely full locks. Mine is more like Jeepers’ - heading for transparency. The only thing giving it a bit of body is the blonde dye and highlights. I’d love to go grey, but as a PP said, thin and grey just looks sad. I’m with the rest - keep it.

Nannyfannybanny · 27/03/2026 17:26

I'm 75, during lockdown and COVID I didn't get near a hairdresser,my hair was naturally dark blond, the front had gone white, never did grey. I changed hairdressers, the new one was in her 50s with very long hair. She persuaded me to have it cut into a short bob. I found a picture of me with the long hair on my FB page, recently, and my hair was gorgeous both the colour and length. I wish I'd never listened to her, this was just 4 years ago. Your hair is gorgeous, I know people in their 80s with very long white or grey hair.

OchreReader · 27/03/2026 17:26

You’re only 52! Why would you cut it just because of your age? It looks lovely, and as long as you are happy with the upkeep required for long hair, keep it šŸ™‚

I have a photo of my granny holding me as a new baby, and she has the classic white hair and perm hairstyle. It was only as I was older and did the calculations I realised she would have only just turned 49! Thank goodness times have changed

purpleygrey · 27/03/2026 17:27

Beautiful hair !

patate10 · 27/03/2026 17:30

chattyness · 27/03/2026 16:15

It looks lovely keep it if you're happy . I chopped mine off last year and instantly regretted it , so I'm just going to let it grow back.

Edited

I thin me too. Indecisive about, leaving an extra month before going back to hairdressers to see how I feel. It needed chopping as had got wispy at ends but I missing having a lot of hair.

Guillemets · 27/03/2026 17:30

I don’t understand people who say they chose to cut their hair short because they couldn’t be bothered with the hassle of long hair. I had shorter hair in my early 20s, and it was way more hassle than it is now. I had to wake up and actually style it, and wash it nearly every day to stop it looking greasy and flat. Now I have long hair I can just shove it up or plait it, and it looks acceptable, even when it’s actually a greasy mess. It’s so much easier!

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · 27/03/2026 17:30

That hair is a crowning glory! Gorgeous at any age! Get some violet deep conditioner and enjoy everyone being envious!

Lifeomars · 27/03/2026 17:37

lovely head of hair, you are so lucky. I have never been able to grow mine long, enjoy it and be proud of how fab it is

Tiredalwaystired · 27/03/2026 17:38

Do YOU like it?

that’s the only important opinion.

who gives a rats arse what a random off the internet that you’ll never meet thinks

your fifties should be the point you should have stopped giving fucks by!

But that’s just my opinion. All that matters is yours!
