Horrible news that ambulances run by a Jewish charity have been set on fire in Golders Green today.

AIBU to feel it's got to to with the rise in anti Jewish hate since the allowance of horrible slogans on the weekly marches and in everyday society? What on earth makes people commit such a horrible attack.

I'm 100% with the Jewish community and pray for peace.

I don't minimise anything, I just can't see what it has to do with Jewish volunteers here in the UK. Something can be terrible 'there' and also terrible 'here' and there's really no reason to encourage people to link the two.

Working on that principle maybe we should go around beating up all black Ugandans because of Ida Amin? Or maybe all Chileans need a good kicking because of General Pinochet (we could include all Spanish speakers in that for good measure).

It's worse now: 13% think the OP is being unreasonable - setting ambulances on fire for gods sake! I thought the BBC were being rather unreasonable too - only "suspected" antisemitic crime? In comparison to how quick they are to report "islamophobic crimes; here's one with the exact same opening sentence:

"The damage caused to 85 graves in the Muslim section of a cemetery is being treated as an Islamophobic hate crime, police have said."

Yet the ambulance one is only entitled "suspected". Why?

Yes, you'd think the UK political left would vaguely support them as the underdog (the idea of a Jewish state, I mean, not specifically their military actions). Especially given the whole anti-nazi thing.

I'm assuming it's because Palestinians are Muslim and the left seems to be rabidly pro-Muslim specifically (as oppose to being generally against hate, racism, and wanting to live and let live). I say this as someone who's usually very lefty myself!

Can anyone explain why the political left are so pro-Muslim in general? Even though at the extreme side this clashes with left-wing values? (Homophobia, sexism...) Mind you sexism seems to be everywhere on all sides!

Imagine if every “Christian” organization did as much… Why aren’t they? I understand a lot of denominations don’t have a “central command” but neither did Hatzola - they have had to rely on the support of the community. With EVERYONE complaining about how dire the NHS is, why is no one stepping up besides Hatzola? The Mormons and Catholics rack in a HUGE amount from their followers - why aren’t they saving the lives of non-believers…

I know what I think the issue is, but I could be wrong. It has to do with the fact that the highest calling in Judaism is pikuach nefesh, or saving a life. Did people just think “Wow, there seem to be a lot of Jewish doctors; wonder why.” 😂 Whereas it seems with a lot of Christian faiths, the highest calling is to spread the faith, even at the cost of your own life or others’ lives.

Funny, I don’t remember hearing that the Hillsong church in Golders Green is running a free ambulance service, and Hillsong London alone earns £10million+ a year. Not sure how much is tax-free?

And yet he has a Jewish wife, comes home early on Friday to celebrate Shabbat with his family and goes to a Synogogue with them, I understand.

Yes the replacement ambulances will be useful if they actually materialise, but what would be even more worthwhile is some real determination to crack down on those committing these atrocities - except as we've seen so often they've no intention of doing this for fear of inflaming "community tensions"

Edited to add that Starmer's wife and kids being jewish is often raised, @Emilesgran, but naturally they'll be better protected than most so that's one worry at least slightly reduced
Unfortunately he's got a much larger worry in that the types fetished by his left wingers are far greater in number and shout much louder, and many of them will have a say around him keeping his job

Or why aren't Chinese takeaways being set on fire on mass in protest against the treatment of Uighur Muslims by China.

Horrendous act of violence against a vital service and the Jewish community. Sadly this is far from being contained, we live in a society where violence and destruction is the norm for many.

How naming a problem ' muslim bashing'?

When there was a problem with white racism we were happy to name it as such and target white people with anti-racism campaigns. That was the right thing to do. We knew not all white people were racist but we also knew a big problme lay within the white community.

Its the same now with Muslims. Within the Muslim community there is a problem with anti-Semitism and that is leading to some to be commit acts of religious violence against Jews. They are doing it very explicitly because they are Muslims and because their victims are Jews: they are open about this. Their acts cannot be removed from their context, especially when the perpetrators are explicit that the context is the religion of both the perpetrator and the victim.

You are trying to be nice but actually ways of thinking like yours have helped to create this situation and are preventing it from being addressed.

You can't deal with a problem you refuse to recognise. And people are dying as a result. Your desire to be seen as nice is not worth other people's lives.

I can't speak for the Mormons, but in my area the Christian Churches get together to fund many community initiatives. This includes transport to hospital.

Whatever your views on global events how can anyone target ambulances????
