To Wear the Leggings White Socks and Trainers Trend now at 40?

LunaSkyy · 23/03/2026 01:52

I’m a young 40 if that’s possible but I have not gone for this because I think I’m too old but am I?
I really like the look.

Will it even be in trend now and what make or style trainers?

Not BU - wear it
Are BU - avoid at your age/ this season

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you this but this look doesn't look good on any one of any age. Sorry 😐

delna · 23/03/2026 02:06

You need the right socks/ trainers and right leggings ( ask your teen😂) but I think it can work....😂 .. I do it🙈

WearyAuldWumman · 23/03/2026 02:20

I do it at the gym...Not with white socks, however. I'm a whisker off 66.

Farewelltothatid · 23/03/2026 03:25

Please don't OP.
It looks absolutely awful. So cheap and nasty.
Nothing to do with age of the wearer. It's just a horrible fashion.

AnOldCynic · 23/03/2026 04:04

First posts nails it as per 😂

Cupcakegirl13 · 23/03/2026 05:14

I’m early forties and do it on my dress down days when I’m just at home , it’s comfy and looks fine ! Ignore the naysayers , wear whatever you feel good in !

Username19893847477374 · 23/03/2026 05:22

Mumsnet absolutely hates this, but everyone does this round my way. I'm also a young 40 if that exists, and I do it at the gym (never on the school run)

IwishIcouldconfess · 23/03/2026 05:22

I'd say at 40, you can wear what like.

dinbin · 23/03/2026 06:00

I just think it’s a horrible look but age wise you’re fine.

I do think it’s on the way out though as a day look as opposed to going to the gym.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 23/03/2026 06:04

Yep I’m older than you op and do this in the gym.
I don’t look like this outside the gym though.
Wear what you like op. This look is trendy right now. If my dd says I look fine wearing stuff like this in the gym, then trust me, she knows better than posters on mumsnet.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 23/03/2026 06:06

Also, I cannot wear those tiny trainer socks anymore, no matter where I buy them from. When I’m training hard in the gym they just come off my feet, so longer socks all the way now.

IsItBeesThoughLooshkin · 23/03/2026 06:16

I love long socks. I’m 44 and I wear whatever the hell I want.

I agree. The only time it looks acceptable is at the gym.

Thehop · 23/03/2026 06:19

I'm 46 and find these socks way comfier than trainer socks for the gym so I'm sticking with it

Cnidarian · 23/03/2026 06:20

Of course you can, there is no age limit to clothes. I for one am grateful to the younger generation for saving us all from cold ankles and socks that slide down your feet.

Klaap · 23/03/2026 06:23

I’m in my 40’s and can’t pull these socks off at all so I’ve given up

I also don’t like the huge tube like jeans trend they don’t suit me

ankle socks 4EVA ✌️

Catisheavyonmylap · 23/03/2026 06:23

I’m in my early 50s and was out walking in my running leggings, ankle socks and trainers the other morning and was actually looked up and down by a woman my own age, who was clearly horrified by my faux pas - as she sauntered by with her white socks and trainers.

The thick running socks are so comfy and stay on

They have literally always been this way, I’m amazed they’re still sold! They’re not fit for purpose. I think we all remember the 00s trend, they never ever stayed up and would cause blisters as a result.

OP, wear whatever the hell you like.

LadyVioletBridgerton · 23/03/2026 06:27

I didn’t even know this was a fashion.

PurpleCoo · 23/03/2026 06:27

I don't follow fashion at all, I do my own thing, but I am 50 and frequently wear leggings. Never with long white socks though!

For those saying leggings don't look good on people, while I do think people should wear what they like, I do question why people choose to wear clothing that looks really unflattering (whatever it is). Why wouldn't you want to look your best and wear clothes that suit you? Leggings do tend to look much better on some sizes/figures than others so as to whether you should wear them it depends on whether they look flattering on you or not.

hjhjhjhjhj · 23/03/2026 06:28

You can wear what you like at any age.

YesssSpringHasSprung · 23/03/2026 06:32

Wear whatever you like! You’re 40 - you don’t need to check with us!
