LunaSkyy · 23/03/2026 01:52

I’m a young 40 if that’s possible but I have not gone for this because I think I’m too old but am I?
I really like the look.

Will it even be in trend now and what make or style trainers?

Not BU - wear it
Are BU - avoid at your age/ this season

You've missed out sock detail....

Can’t really see them under the trou tbh

Vodkamartini3olives · 23/03/2026 11:50

Go for it. I'm older than you and it's pretty.much my everyday outfit. Sometimes I add a trench and a baseball cap ( cringe I know!!). Even my teenage daughter thinks I look good so fuck it,. I'm wearing it.

BiscoffCheesecakes · 23/03/2026 11:57

If you wear something with confidence nobody is likely to judge you (and if they do, you're unlikely to know about it so who cares?)

Girlwithavibe · 23/03/2026 12:00

If u want to wear it wear it
Take no notice of what the above posters are posting !!
Everyone has different opinions on what looks good and what doesn't !!
If u feel good then it's good ,!!! X

Brightbluestone · 23/03/2026 12:07

Is this just wearing crew socks (like longer adidas sports socks) over leggings with trainers? I’ve done this for years, also wear them with shorts & trainers in summer. I’m early 40s and didn’t even know this was a trend! I think it’s a good look, go for it OP, you’re definitely not too old! Don’t overthink it.
I’m sure I’ll get flamed and the piss ripped out of me for this 🤣 - but I’ve often noticed I’ll start wearing something a certain way/wearing certain things and then it becomes a trend. Clearly must have an excellent eye for fashion (or am just unknowingly single-handedly starting trends left right and centre 🤣)

Grammarninja · 23/03/2026 12:30

Looks terrible but I've been doing it for a decade just to keep my ankles warm. It's funny what comes into fashion! 🤣

AutumnAllTheWay · 23/03/2026 12:54

Like all clothing fads, the instant it catches on among the 40's and 50's, it will be over 😂

So do us all a favour and wear it, hasten the end of it!

BiscoffCheesecakes · 23/03/2026 12:54

I saw a lady on her way into the gym wearing this this morning. She looked great and even if she wasn't going to the gym it still wouldn't look out of place

SP2024 · 23/03/2026 12:56

Urgh. This was starting to be the fashion when I was on mat leave two years ago. As a 40 year old I’m definitely too old to wear it. Because I remember wearing it the first time round! With a leotard under a baggy tshirt.

MrsLizzieDarcy · 23/03/2026 13:09

Oh god, it's a horrendous look. Like leg warmers and shoulder pads were in the 80s Grin Don't be a sheep. Be yourself.

ChocolateBasket · 23/03/2026 13:10

I think it looks fine, but then I dress in things that make me feel good, because to me that's what matters the most.
I couldn't give a fuck what anyone else thinks.

Style is personal, fashion isn't.

Drippingfeed · 23/03/2026 13:13

The answer to all these posts is 'wear what you like' One thing I would expect at your age is to have stopped slavishly- or at all - caring about ' am I the right age, is this fashionable? ' tripe.

thunderful · 23/03/2026 13:31

It’s an awful look at any age but the older you get the worse it becomes. Where is your dignity?

What's undignified about it?

ThatLilacTiger · 23/03/2026 14:06

You can wear what you want but it looks stupid as shit.

wellfuckadoodledoo · 23/03/2026 16:16

That’s a trend that’s got to be on its way out, surely? It was horrible to begin with, and middle-aged women* adopting it may as well be the Kiss Of Death.

*Nothing against middle-aged women, I am one! But once we start wearing something, that’s when the youngsters stop!

I can’t believe how many replies there are and it seems 50/50.

Thank you all.

I would go with the "wear whatever like" brigade

I am 42 and wear leggings with thick sports socks probably 3 - 4 days a week.

I get Sweaty Betty full length leggings when they are on sale for about £30 a pair. They are sculpting and thick and look more polished than a set of baggy Primark black leggings! Mostly wear them with black sports socks over the top as I find white a bit glaring and they get splashed with mud when I do dog walks.

It’s very normal where I live (rural SE) for mums to be on the school run wearing this. Personally I find it suits my body shape with an oversize slouchy jumper ontop, it’s super comfy, and looks fine without me having to actually spend time thinking about what to wear when I’m trying to get 3 kids and a dog out the door each morning. I couldn’t give a shiny shit if it’s gone out of fashion - it’s leisure wear, I wouldn’t wear it out to dinner.

If it’s cold I put a long sleeping bag type black coat over it all. If it’s raining I put a shorter boxy fit rain coat over.

if you’re looking for an alternative to leggings that is also super comfy and easy to throw on I highly recommend Tori jeans from Beyond Nine. Or these high waist wide jeans bu Bershka: https://www.asos.com/prd/210487296?acquisitionsource=pasteboard

when not in leggings im generally in one of these, again with the oversize sweater or t shirt, and a pair of sneakers. Can’t deal with not being comfortable these days. And don’t get me started about trainer socks as per all the chat above in the thread - I put up with them for nearly 20 years rolling down and causing blisters and am so glad to finally see the back of them 😂

How did the most hideous clothing item ever become fashionable? It's like one of those 'school' fashions, like (when I was at school) long socks pushed down so they were wrinkled or the terrible anorak I got from a market stall because about 50 percent of people at school had them.

I quite liked the long socks pushed down look lol....but yes I know what you mean.....sheep mentality lol

cottingleyfairy · 24/03/2026 12:38

I wear this look and I’m 62.
But I don’t care what anyone else thinks.
An upside of getting older.

It's because you mentioned age.

If you'd simply said should you wear leggings with white socks and trainers, most people would've been pretty 'meh' about it.

Ukefluke · 24/03/2026 13:24

Hideous. My teens went from socks must never to be seen to socks half way up the calf.
Thankfully short lived. tThey now seem to have settled on ankles socks sitting on the ankle and a gap to the bottom of the leggings.

You’ve clearly raised very sensible teens 😄

They have literally always been this way, I’m amazed they’re still sold! They’re not fit for purpose. I think we all remember the 00s trend, they never ever stayed up and would cause blisters as a result.

OP, wear whatever the hell you like.

In my experience, the BAM ones stay put, but they do have a little back bit.
