Foul language on here.

AIBU to expect people to use less foul language on here. I’m put off by people using c , f.
Im not a prude and believe me there is many a time I’ve used the F word in conversations but wouldn’t dream of using it on here and never the c word.
Edited as deleted the asterisks - obviously doesn’t like them.

I’ve had a 4 decade career writing software and have never once come across ‘database’ as a verb until this thread. I suppose it’s a convenient lazy shorthand if you only have one possible database to log/archive/store/… your information in.

So have I. But I have worked in the real world, in the NHS and education, not stuck hidden in an office. Looks like you need to get out more. I have heard it for as long as we have reported things on a system. I don’t suppose you have to database many incidents which involve real people.

MannyTeddy · 16/03/2026 18:43

I think people who swear actually have a higher vocabulary and intelligence, it has been proven. We are also adults who when making a point can respond with swearing.

The majority of people on here are also parents who are stressed, juggling everything every day and facing financial worries plus a million other things.

So if they want to swear, I'm fine with it. 😊

You can also just scroll on by to the PG section of the world, that doesn't exist.

Naunet · 16/03/2026 19:32

OhDear111 · 16/03/2026 10:13

@Naunet Because it’s not necessary and diminishes an argument. It’s essentially unpleasant. People are just unpleasant these days though and inarticulate. Unable to express themselves in a reasonable way and it’s sad.

People have always sworn, its not new, you need to get used to it I'm afraid. It's just words and you'll never stop it.

OhDear111 · 16/03/2026 21:39

@Naunet I don’t expect to stop it, but I don’t have to read it. Or take much notice of it. I was brought up in a no swearing house and I don’t have to get used to it in real life. Friends and family don’t do it. If DDs swear, it’s not around me but I suspect they don’t need to. Just because people do it, doesn’t make it right. A bit like murder.

EstherGreenwood63 · 16/03/2026 21:46

Oh Oh has someone chimed in with 'Off you fuck then cunty chops' yet? I still chuckle about that sometimes... LEGEND.

FoxRedPuppy · 16/03/2026 21:51

CUNT is my favourite word.

Yabu

If you don't like swearing there are other platforms available that are heavily moderated to make sure all the women are nice and kind and don't rock the boat. Go and use them.

Here, we are allowed to be honest and that includes getting angry and expressing that anger eloquently with the full range of expletives if we choose. It's part and parcel of living free from patriarchal oppression. We don't owe you "nice"

OhDear111 · 16/03/2026 23:08

@CactusSwoonedEnding How unpleasant. Cannot see how behaving like a man makes you free from anything. Certainly not men!

Being pleasant can also fuck right off. You are not the police and I do not owe you pleasant. People who aren't judgy about language are much more interesting and worthwhile to be with. I do not need your approval to be happy and the sour expression on your face right now is just a symptom of the poison that has infected your soul. It is not trying to "behave like men" by living free unless you first accept that only men have the right to be free.

Greyblankie · 16/03/2026 23:23

You’re never going to stop the swearing on mumsnet, it’s pretty famous for it.

I personally love the word “cunt”. I don’t use it often but when I do it feels good to get it out.

BlackeyedSusan · 16/03/2026 23:49

Mumsnet self styles as 'the sweary one;' there's been swearing since it was all fields round here. What's really weird is coming onto a site with a sweary ethos and expecting everyone to change for you. This site is sweary. You can either put up with it or go elsewhere. There are lots of sites where there is a no swear policy.

We have had these threads regularly over the past 15 or so years I've been reading. And we are still sweary fuckers.

You might be alarmed by our isolation manager. She would eat you alive! Look it up - database is a verb. Did you go to school?

Well I’m not American, and therefore database acting as a verb can fuck right off!

Llttledrummergirls · 17/03/2026 00:05

I'm British and database as a verb can fuck right off. It sounds ridiculous.

right given this some more thought. If you use database as a verb ‘to database an incident’ since database is now the action where are you going to database the incident? It’s a bit like saying ‘I’ll report the incident’ which is a meaningless statement if you don’t use a qualifier. So would you say ‘I’ll database the incident on the database?’ I mean that’s just gibberish.
Please make it make sense.

YourShyLion · 17/03/2026 00:44

Not unreasonable at all. Unfortunately it's indicitive of the type of people on this site.

YABVfuckingU

We are all adults here. No one is going to burst into flame for seeing the words fuck or cunt.
And sometimes, fuck or cunt is the most appropriate word.
