Foul language on here.

AIBU to expect people to use less foul language on here. I’m put off by people using c , f.
Im not a prude and believe me there is many a time I’ve used the F word in conversations but wouldn’t dream of using it on here and never the c word.
Edited as deleted the asterisks - obviously doesn’t like them.

If you're offended, there are lots of other forums out there.

Strange way to describe giving them a Behaviour Point for swearing/inappropriate language.

Anyhow, there's a world of difference between a kid swearing in your presence and swearing at you.

Both unnecessary. Manners cost nothing.
And who is talking about a behaviour point? I said isolation - which has far greater impact.

You used the word 'database' as a verb.

"then I database. And I database over and over again. So when parents are complaining, just imagine what’s written all over their students database".

That's recording a behaviour point/being sent into the isolation room. And it's a student's behaviour record on the MIS (for the less technologically minded or acronym-familiar, the database) that they'd be able to see a report upon. Although the number of points/incidences are usually added as a field on reports and/or will be accessible and/or notified each time through a School-Parent Communications app in any case, so it's not likely to be a surprise to them in any case.

Hicky, clapped - both mean common, ugly etc

MusicMakesItAllBetter · 15/03/2026 21:47

I absolutely love a C bomb and have used it in comments a plenty but out of respect for you @Lemondrizzle4A .... I shall leave it off here for you

But you are being fucking unreasonable.

Sorry 🤭

What do you mean when you say you “database”? And then database some more- what exactly are you doing?

do you mean you input their behaviour into a database? I use databases, I don’t database.

you seem to be speaking a different dialect here, hicky, clapped meaning common, database being a verb? Not heard that before at all.

in my world a hicky is a lovebite, and clap is making a noise by hitting your hands together.

Vivienne1000 · 15/03/2026 22:02

To database is a verb. Onto a database, which is a noun.

gamerchick · 15/03/2026 22:04

Lemondrizzle4A · 15/03/2026 11:19

To all of you swearing on this thread I rest my case.

Well you kind of asked for it OP.

You can't tell adults what to say and what not to say. Swearing is allowed on here and swear we shall.

FaceEatingLeopard · 15/03/2026 22:06

First thing I say every morning without fail is FUCK OFF. To the alarm clock. Last thing I say at night - again without fail - is Fuck it's cold or Fuck it's hot.
I'm not happy if I'm not fucking swearing and I'll tell you another thing - if someone never swears they are not to be trusted. True medical fact.

DameOfThrones · 15/03/2026 22:09

Lemondrizzle4A · 15/03/2026 13:42

I posted not for the reason you seem to think but because genuinely shocked at how much swearing. I get swearing I do but almost every other word on some threads I don’t. I was interested to get other people’s views and wondering if at my advanced age it was just me.

Hmm I don't know really.

I'm inclined to agree with the poster you quoted regarding getting the attention you want.

It's was the "AIBU to expect people to use less foul language on here" that made me think it.

Unless you're Justine Roberts under a name change, yes you are unreasonable to 'expect' this just because you don't like it.

JaneJeffer · 15/03/2026 22:37

There are many people on here who deserve to be told to fuck off but I’m far too polite to tell them so.

ThisSunnyBee · 15/03/2026 22:40

Boring

Enigma54 · 15/03/2026 22:53

Oh cockwombles! That’s us told. Off to Netmums do we fuckity fuck!

IceyBisBack · 15/03/2026 22:56

They are all a bunch of renegade fuckwits!

Mistybluebay · 15/03/2026 23:07

Nobody has mentioned describing somebody as a bastard & there are plenty of them around. There now, that feels better.

JacquesHarlow · 15/03/2026 23:09

Every single poster who has gleefully said "off you go to Netmums, off you fuck!" is a bully.

There you go - I said it.

You lot revel in saying "fuck" and cunt" on here to intimidate posters who aren't comfortable with that language.

You belittle them into thinking they're not "cool" somehow by adopting the language of the in club on here.

How much more interesting it would have been to read an analysis of why middle-class women on Mumsnet seem to find the need to let it out by swearing in a "tinkly-laugh" kind of way, all knowing and asides etc

Instead, we just get page after page of posters trying to out-swear each other in what they think are creative ways, which instead reads like a long thread of people trying to ingratiate with each other.

YANBU @Lemondrizzle4A , it's tiresome and I actually agree with you.

Just because you said it, it doesn’t make it true. Or mean it makes any sense.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 15/03/2026 23:12

Vivienne1000 · 15/03/2026 14:00

If a student uses those words at school they go to isolation. But seeing how widely used they are on here, I can only assume it’s picked up from home. It’s very hicky and not respectful. If teenagers swear at school I remind them that most adults do not expect this sort of language, so keep it for home. And then I database. And I database over and over again. So when parents are complaining, just imagine what’s written all over their students database. I have to say most students apologise immediately and realise how inappropriate it is.

I’m more offended by someone seemingly using “database” as a verb than I am by any swearing.

Interestingly I think a lot of it is to do with trying to feel part of the crowd. I admit to letting out the occasional expletive but would never have considered writing the same. I've just found myself doing exactly that in my last post. I'm now wondering if I'll get to the stage of writing it as my normal style of language here if only to let it out despite tending to agree with you & OP😂

OnTheBoardwalk · 15/03/2026 23:28

I don’t like swearing myself and would always use feck in real life and on here

I do have a actual cunt t-shirt which is my favourite word that’s only used in certain situations and for certain people, including myself

Thank you for your honesty -

It's funny how so much of behaviours on here (and in real life!) tends to be about wanting to fit in.

I find it fascinating how some Mumsnetters stridently declare "it's always been this way on here, off you fuck to Netmums if you don't like it!"

An internet message board loudly proclaiming its 'culture' through the shared identity of tinkly-laughed swearing

Whatever next? 😃

Forthesteps · 15/03/2026 23:42

People on here think it makes them edgy and modern and not at all property owning middle class, so little prospect I'm afraid, OP.
